Actual Japanese look more alike than Taiga, Louse, Shana, Nagi and Haruhi does.
Only when you're not used to them. There's just as many differences between themselves as it is for us. And just like us they all look the same on magazines becuase they remove all forms of recognitional facial features making it even harder for us to see the difference. Personally I don't see much of a difference between them, and I guess I in a way hope I won't ever do so. So no, your over-exaggerated example does not flow in my book. /srz bzns

Doesn't mean Japanese people look particularly similar. As the characters appear in their respective anime that is, not as they appear in the picture.

blur the edges of the pumpkins like you did the trees
So, I just finished TTGL. Went into it expecting that it wouldn't live up to the hype, because Hellsing Ultimate had disappointed me. Was pleasantly surprised. I'm not going to rate it or anything, but it was good.
blur the edges of the pumpkins like you did the trees
Sums it up pretty much. Other then that the picture looks remarkably awesome.
Explain further.
Fights typically consisted of Alucard turning into scary Alucard with all the eyes and shit and then eating someone. Didn't find that interesting, really. I figured there would be more to it than that. I mean, it was good and all, I just didn't think it was as good as I'd heard it was. Last time I explained this I started a shitstorm in here, so I think I'll regret this post. [editline]06:29PM[/editline]
What of GiTS?
Suspended so I could watch TTGL. Resuming in like half an hour.
Suspended so I could watch TTGL. Resuming in like half an hour.
What'd you leave off on?
What'd you leave off on?
I'd just finished 14, I think. The one with the assassin.
I'd just finished 14, I think. The one with the assassin.
Oh yeah, the one with a shotgun in her arm. That was a p. cool episode.
Oh yeah, the one with a shotgun in her arm. That was a p. cool episode.
Yeah, it was. I noticed that they had that episode in English on Adult Swim on demand, so I watched it again in English the day after I watched it subbed. The mind-talking thing sounds really different in English, and it's more like radio chatter or something, plus Batou doesn't sound nearly as cool. The major's voice doesn't really suit her either. And the dub had lots of unnecessary explanation that wasn't present in the Japanese version, because nobody expects English speakers to know anything about Japanese culture or mythology. Off to watch GitS 15, brb.
English dubbs never were great, anyways.
English dubbs never were great, anyways.
Cowboy Bebop had a great dub.
Cowboy Bebop had a great dub.
Well okay maybe with a few exceptions..
GitS 15: Special Tachikoma Episode kind of surprised me. It started nice and light-hearted and then got really sad all of a sudden. [sp]All they ever wanted was a bit of self-awareness ;_;[/sp]
Cowboy Bebop had a great dub.
Only Spike's voice. I can't stand dubs. Hellsing, Cowboy Bebop, Baccano... I don't like them. There is 1-2, maybe 3 really good english voice actors that are taken in use and that's it. The rest are just ordered to voice in the highest girliest pitch they can and keep themselves in that level for everything, angry or happy, it doesn't matter. And then there are some that tries and does it half-decent but still is quite monotone (Like the voice actors for Baccano).
Fights typically consisted of Alucard turning into scary Alucard with all the eyes and shit and then eating someone. Didn't find that interesting, really. I love the show (except for the two last episodes, becuase of lack of Alucard and too much shitty talking that is completely on line with classic Hollywood movies and too little hardcore action.) because it's simply just BLOOD GUNS VAMPIRES CHRISTANS AND NAZIS! FIGHT!
English dubbs never were great, anyways.
Excel Saga has a great dub. The characters (just Excel really) sound just as annoying in English as they do in Japanese, which is the point. More so because there's no language barrier.

I agree that most dubs seem to be a bunch of voice actors and actresses trying to pull off the highest pitch they can, but some dubs are genuinely good and don't suffer from that problem. GitS wasn't too bad, it just couldn't compare to the Japanese version. Hellsing was actually better in English, if only because it was ridiculous to hear a Japanese man trying to speak English with an Irish accent. And Spike redeemed every bad voice actor in Bebop, in my opinion. It's all a matter of perspective and personal taste, really. If I'm going to watch a pure action show, it had better be insane like I've been led to believe Black Lagoon is.

I don't see how perspective has anything to do with it. And I doubt I would feel differently if I was a English speaker. I favourise English over any language, it's more comfortable and simply sounds nicer. But when I watch movies and TV show and whatever else media I want to listen to somebody convincing when they talk, someone trying to actually put some emotions into their words and actually make us believe they mean what they say. Surely there are a lot of failed voice actors in Jap shows, but I have only heard the voice actors that does Spike Spiegel, Kyon and Alucard that actually sounds good and believeable in english. Same goes for dubs of English movies and shows. Goes both ways. Dubs usually always sucks. Though, the Norwegian dub for Finding Nemo was fucking awesome, better than the original. And I haaaate Norwegian dubs.
Even the action just didn't do it for me. Not enough running around and backflips and crazy over the top shenanigans. If I'm going to watch a pure action show, it had better be insane like I've been led to believe Black Lagoon is.
Hellsing is more over the top than Black Lagoon is. Black Lagoon tries to be serious and over the top at the same time (which it manages very well). Hellsing is just... Fight you fucking natzi's, vampires and religious fucks! Blow it all up. FEAST on human flesh! Be a deadly card player. Wield weapons weighting 5 tons in each hand. But, it's easy to dislike because of this. because "What's the point?" and "What's up with all the bullshit talk?" (especially the morale boosting bullshit. Especially especially with the military dudes. God fucking damit. Get on with it already, get a fucking room or something.)
Yes it was. Past and now in the same sentence is a nono. You shouldn't have doing it.
Usually but in this case it's ok.
Nazi vampires eating babies not enough action for you?
That's not action, that's gore, that's violence.
i thought the fact that it had nazis AND vampires was a little much
It's fucking awesome you all suck.
no it got p boring at some points mainly the points with the nazis
It's fucking awesome you all suck.
I'm not denying that it's awesome, but the way my friends made it out to be the second coming of Christ led to my having incredibly high expectations which could not be met by any show.
no it got p boring at some points mainly the points with the nazis
well that's cuz your a faggot [editline]06:14PM[/editline]
I'm not denying that it's awesome, but the way my friends made it out to be the second coming of Christ led to my having incredibly high expectations which could not be met by any show.
They're right though.
