As for modern bands, I like the White Stripes. And Muse is alright.
Just try various genres of music and see what's right for you, don't just follow the crowd.
Cory Gunz is pretty good at rapping and is doing the radio circuits so he might be cool in a year or two
too young, his voice is terribly whiney
miley cirus
Stick to Jazz.
get the fuck out
I prefer lady gaga to muse
Music scores are what I mainly listen to, especially Thomas Newman.
From jazz to rap is a big step, maybe you should try something in the middle first, like neutral milk hotel
I prefer lady gaga to muse
you prefer some over hyped hag rather than a talented and successful band?
You should stick with jazz because I love jazz and I'm fucking awesome. However I also listen to a lot of hip-hop, rap, funk and D'n'B.

Loads of people on this site seem to think that metal and its related genres are the best, so you might not get a particularly varied response. Can't stand it myself. Also, if this is a serious thread, jazz to rap might not be the smoothest transition. As a final point, Lady Gaga is amazing and you can fight me if you disagree.

With this disagree. TAKE THAT!
Taylor Swift YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Stick to what you like if you must. I was like you at one point; all I listened to was classic country. Which I still do. You know, the masters like Johnny Cash. Then I got into jazz, rock, metal, and eventually some older rap and electronic/ambient plus tons of subgenres. For rap, I recommend Eminem since he's the only artist I've listened to from the genre.
you prefer some over hyped hag rather than a talented and successful band?
i do because muse is terrible and lady gaga is good
AND FIGHT YOU I SHALL!!!!!! With this disagree. TAKE THAT!
I have been slain.
You know, the masters like Johnny Cash. As for Eminem, there are a lot of other rappers, so it's worth listening to a few things and finding what you like. Don't necessarily just go for him as you've heard of him. That said though, I'm barely a rap expert, I just have a slightly varied taste in music.
Really?
I certainly have been called out. I don't know much about the origins of rap, so that's kind of interesting. I was just kind of thinking of the fact that to me they seem to be somewhat further apart now. [editline]6:27PM[/editline] They probably are still musically similar or some shit so I'm just making myself look stupid, but I just listen to shit, I don't really look for links.
Never listen to music because you think it will make you friends. It won't, you will just lose all your old ones.
Yeah, I can understand that, but if you're looking at earlier rap, and not too avant-garde jazz, you can hear the similarities. Hell, look at the Beastie Boys. I have Ill Communication, and it switches between hip hop, cool jazz, and hardcore punk so much it's near-hilarious, but it still sounds like it's the same people. As much as that makes sense... :v:
Listen to what you like, it really doesn't matter.
I hate to say it, but if you think of how rap/hip hop is popular among black youth, and how jazz used to occupy that same space a few short decades ago, you'll see it clearer as evolving alongside that subculture. [editline]02:31PM[/editline] fuck
fun. is a pretty good band.
I listen to '60s and '70s music; artists such as The Doors, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Who, Pink Floyd, etc. The only "current" music I even listen to is post-rock. Remember that awesome song that played as Jim navigated the empty, desolate streets of London in 28 Days Later? East Hastings, by Godspeed You! Black Emperor, one of the most well-known post-rock artists. My favorite post-rock artists are Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Mogwai, and Explosions in the Sky, though there are others.
This. I fucking love Post-Rock some other examples: Russian Circles - Micah Russian Circles - Xavii Red Sparrows - We stood transfixed... Red Sparrows - The soundless dawn... Explosions in the Sky - Your hand in mine Explosions in the Sky - Six days under the ocean Explosions in the Sky - Time stops (great song to listen to when high) Explosions in the Sky - Memorial
The kool kids are listening to poppy punk like Blink-182 and that sort. The real cool kids are listening to classic rock and jazz :smug:
Muse.
Everyone who disagreed with that post is officially a massive faggot.
Vietnam-era rock and such is really awesome. Here are some examples: They don't make shit like that nowardays.
