to people reading the thread for the first time, read the article posted in the OP before you post in this thread, it's a better explanation than what people are posting in here, such as "hurr hurr, people have different tastes" well what is their rationale for having a taste for TBBT, genius?
This is exactly what I've been asking for, yet nobody has been able to supply.
Um no.. I meant decode.. He's 60 years old and he's a rather lame teacher. The fact that he watches the show, or at least references it, is something I'm trying to say about the show. And you wouldn't need a Colossus Computer to break that code. *canned laughter*
My bad, I misread it. You think he's lame; I bet he has friends who think he's cool. This seems to have become a discussion that is, in essence, 'this is lame and anybody who likes it is lame. Also if you are 'lame' then there is something fundamentally wrong with you'. Is it really that hard to realise that other people enjoy things you don't enjoy and it's okay for them to do that?
This is exactly what I've been asking for, yet nobody has been able to supply.
You don't need a rationale to like something.
I find TBBT funny because it references stuff I know about and sometimes makes decent jokes about it, and it's just so horribly awkward sometimes it's funny. I do agree on the laugh track thing, though. Hate that shit.
I find it pretty funny, and I don't get the ~I'm so nerdyxD~ vibe from it, so I don't know where you guys are getting that from. Just because there's a video game reference or two doesn't mean that's the whole show. The plots of some episodes are hilarious.
The show's popularity says otherwise.
It's not like large number of people haven't been wrong before.
The show would honestly be okay without the laughing tracks at any given moment.
it's just American silly humour. personally i find the weird voices to be grating on my ears, the silly energy to be draining on my nerves, and the story-lines give me seizures. this is the greatest comedy group of all time:
It's not like large number of people haven't been wrong before.
pretty sure it's not a question of 'correct' or 'incorrect' or 'right' or 'wrong' or 'good 'taste'' or 'bad 'taste'' but rather 'personal preference' [editline]21st September 2012[/editline] to be clear I respect your opinion if you dislike it but judging somebody on whether or not they like the show or trying to convince those people that enjoy the show that your negative opinion of it is the only correct opinion is dumb
pretty sure it's not a question of 'correct' or 'incorrect' or 'right' or 'wrong' or 'good 'taste'' or 'bad 'taste'' but rather 'personal preference'
Personal preference implies an opinion, and opinions can be wrong. If you run around telling everyone that earth is flat and that you can't be wrong, because that's just your opinion, you're going to get laughed out.
Personal preference implies an opinion, and opinions can be wrong.
There is a difference between objective scientific truths and subjective cultural opinions don't mix them up
Objectivity is purely subjective. You might see the fact that Earth is round as an objective fact, someone else will see it as a subjective opinion, the same way as you see the fact that Big Bang Theory is shit as just a subjective opinion.
Guys, The Big Bang Theory doesn't use a laugh track. It's actually an audience. People actually find the jokes funny. So when you hear "It's Halo night" *retarded laughter* it's actual retarded laughter, not prerecoreded retarded laughter.
Please try to stay within the sensible bounds of the argument and don't try to make this a discussion over 'what constitutes objectivity/subjectivity' or 'is true objectivity possible'; it's silly and won't get anybody anywhere
You're the one who brought objectivity up in the first place.
You're the one who brought objectivity up in the first place.
Because it was a relevant concept to bring up if we use it as it is generally defined. Starting a discussion over 'what actually is objectivity' isn't really relevant to the matter at hand and is just going to take us into a realm of pure philosophical speculation where there will be no consensus and no means with which to substantiate claims. At the end of the day: whether or not a cultural product is enjoyable or not is subjective to the consumer.
At the end of the day: whether or not a cultural product is enjoyable or not is subjective to the consumer.
Agree, but there's a difference between an enjoyable product and a good product. McDonalds food is the obvious example to that. Enjoyable? For whole bunch of people, yes. Good food? Definitely, no.
I might just be the odd viewer out on this forum, but I do enjoy the show quite a bit. Not because I think it's the most funny citcom on the air (props to How I Met Your Mother), but because it's entertaining and I can look past a lot of the horribly placed laugh tracks. The show does have laugh tracks in scenes of the show that aren't funny, but when I look past them, then the show has pretty good entertainment value. I know I don't speak for everyone when I say this, because it is purely my opinion, but the show is very watchable. Also, I think Jim Parsons plays a pretty good socially inept person.
I find it enjoyable but some of the "DURR HURR HURR NURD STUUF EES FAWNY" can be annoying. Other than that its a decent show.
I enjoy the show, although I cannot watch it, because unlike most of everything that Comedy Network has turned to, this show remains innocent and doesn't have to rely on toilet humour.
"It's time to rock mario old school" I think that speaks for itself.
saying an entire show with 115 episodes is terrible because of one unfunny joke

I thought this thread was about how people find the creation of the universe funny.
Awful show.
Agree, but there's a difference between an enjoyable product and a good product. McDonalds food is the obvious example to that. Enjoyable? For whole bunch of people, yes. Good food? Definitely, no.
We aren't talking about food nutrition or whether the earth is flat, we're talking about a television show that clearly just doesn't appeal to you.
I like it, but I don't think it's a show that'll make one laugh their ass off. It's not like it's hilarious, I'll admit that, but it puts me in a good mood. It's one of those sitcoms that isn't necessarily great, but not terrible at the same time. I've watched all the seasons, so you can say that I'm a fan. I feel like it began to get a bit stale after a while, though. [editline]21st September 2012[/editline] I'm also beginning to think that people are hopping on a "The Big Bang Theory fucking sucks" bandwagon, not to point out anyone in particular.
saying an entire show with 115 episodes is terrible because of one unfunny joke
Are you really that delusional? Do you really think I'm saying the show is unfunny because of one stupid joke/reference? This isn't 4chan, get your >implying that i think im witty when im really not out of here.
I'm also beginning to think that people are hopping on a "The Big Bang Theory fucking sucks" bandwagon, not to point out anyone in particular.
Well don't look at me. I've got friends who like this show for whatever reason that they won't tell me (and one of them is a complete idiot, which isn't helping me any better on how I view the show).
Relevant [t]http://puu.sh/17aT6[/t]
Hilarious but sad at the same time.
I enjoy the show because I can relate to most of the characters at one level or another so I think it's nice to see my sort of quirks fleshed out, since I don't really know anyone who fits those sort of personalities.
because I am a proud lover of this and if you don't like it then go away!!!! ~brobangtheorist for life~ ------- oh come on I probably put more effort into that than the writers of this show
because people have a shit sense of humor and will laugh at anything
