How do people think that The Big Bang Theory is funny?
84 replies, posted
I personally think the show has its moments.
Do the writers try too hard with a lot of their ~nerd~ jokes? Obviously. Do said tryhard jokes make me feel bad to think people associate me as a nerd, and nerds as people who behave like that? Most definitely. Does the show lather on the laughtrack so thick it can suffocate small children? Undoubtedly so.
But through it all, they do have a few jokes that I chuckle at. Enough for me to be able to go "Hmm, there is absolutely nothing on, I guess I can watch The Big Bang Theory" and not feel absolutely wretched at having to do so.
I can just as easily ask why people find It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia funny. I've seen four or five episodes, and out of them, only chuckled maybe two or three times. Out of the ones I've seen, the most entertaining one was the one where they think Mac is a serial killer. But the others, like when they tried to figure out who pooped the bed? How is that funny? Since when were poop jokes funny to anyone older than twelve?
It all boils down to personal preference, as has been said countless times before.
BBT is one of the most boring sitcoms I've ever tried to sit through. Like, even IF the show has "moments" I don't see the appeal in sitting through 50 bad "lol nerd reference" jokes for one decent "lol nerd reference" joke
laugh tracks are really stupid
There's a special circle of hell reserved for those who rely on them.

I don't understand any of the science jokes, and I don't laugh at them either, but for some reason I just really liked the show. Kaley Cuoco is also pretty hot, so that's a plus.
*Late*
I only see it when my parents are watching it.
They have laughing fits at parts i don't even see how it could remotely be funny.

I didn't see it until just now.

Hey op I rated all your posts dumb because in my opinion you are dumb
You may think you aren't dumb but since my opinion is obviously better than yours that means everyone's opinion is and should be that way since I said so
I must admit I think that show is absolute rubbish.

Sorry, couldn't hear you over the sound of your own ignorance.
Do you think I care about getting rated dumb by you?
I've watched it and laughed a few times. I wish they didn't have sound track though, why do we need to know when we can laugh
A great example of this is scrubs, scrubs is hilarious but if it had a laugh track it would totally kill it. There was a programme on and had a special episode with both zach braff and whatever chocolate bear's actual name is, the writers gave them the exact same style of humor but the added laugh track just made it... completely unfunny.

Malcolm in the Middle?
Also don't get me wrong Red Dwarf (the US one is shit, sorry) and Bottom are actually funny.
I don't mind laugh tracks. Gives it a bit more of a theatrical edge; as though we're watching with an audience. Some of my favourite comedies have laugh tracks; Blackadder, Mr Bean, etc. Sure they're over done and exaggerated, but I'm not going to take it as an insult to my intelligence or wrongly assume that the producers think I'm too stupid to know when to laugh.
Because they have never seen the Mighty Boosh, Monty Python's Flying Circus, or Wilfred.

if it went one ear out the other for you it was an exampleof how youre acting right now
Because different people find different things funny? You're acting as if nobody could find this funny, when clearly a lot of people do. It's a matter of taste. I don't think it's a very funny show, but other people I know do, I don't ask them what's wrong with them or ask them how they could possibly find it funny, because there's no way to really bridge that difference in opinion.
Indeed. One cannot prove something is unfunny scientifically, therefore it is a matter of opinion.
I used to like the show, but I feel like it has gone downhill significantly.

Sorry, this time I couldn't even read your incomprehensible dribble.
Not sure why I'm even replying to you anyway, I specifically said I was not insulting anybody on their choice of liking this show, instead I asked why it was considered funny to them. Which, as evident from the majority of the posters on this thread including the people who watch it for their own amusement, it isn't.

you must be illiterate and cant read things if they dont use capitals or punctuation
and thats like asking WHY ARE PEOPLE FURRIES
its their lifestyle choice and similar to that they find certain things funny
you cant fucking EXPLAIN why you find it funny you just do
also are you a fucking idiot
PEOPLE ONLY SAID THEY WATCH IT FOR AMUSEMENT EVEN THOUGH THEY CLEARLY SAID THEY FIND IT FUNNY THEREFORE IM RIGHT ITS NOT FUNNY
you're shoving your opinion into everyones face and you deny that its your opinion and its 100% fact that its not funny
if people really wanted to watch a good show about nerds eurika wouldn't have been cancled
as it is bbt just plays up a million stereotypes and adds a restarted audiance laugh to make things seem funny
why do people watch revenge of the nerds? because it has funny stereotypes
same principal
also above person chill out, and there's nothing wrong with furrows, tbbt is not really funny its just on primetime
Yeah, I'm not going to touch that one with a 10 foot pole. Same with The Big Bang Theory. I find it sad though how people think I'm raging over the show, when you look at posts like Death_God's.
I agree, Eureka was a good show that embraced the nerd demographic, although I stopped watching it after the third season or so. Had it not been on shitty Sci Fi (or the retarded Syfy moniker) it would have done much better with a wider audience.
When I leave for one day and my Mom installs viruses.
Somebody likes that? I am surprised.
My only real issue is that a lot of the people I know love it and are constantly trying to get me to watch it. When they laughed at a ~nerd~ joke, as I asked them why they thought it was funny and they reply "I don't know it just is", So basically they are not laughing at the actual reference but rather because they can identify when the writers intend that are supposed to laugh.
The above may not be true for all viewers, but I just don't get it. I showed the same person some clips from "A bit of Fry and Laurie" and "That Mitchell & Webb Look" and they said that's stupid and walked away. I guess different strokes for different folks.
People were speaking of the show like it was the funniest thing ever, but then I watched half an episode and realised it was just an average sitcom.
So I don't know if it's good or bad but it surely is overrated.
The whole laugh track thing is sort of objective. I personally don't feel comfortable with laughing while I'm alone. Even with shows that don't have a laugh track, I only laugh at them if other people are around laughing with me.
This might astound you but people can have different tastes than you. Besides, it shouldn't effect you.
I watch it but in small doses. It's kind of like a Big Mac. It's good every now and then but don't take too much of it in a short period of time.
