Cool story bro because I own a 4870 and it goes nowhere NEAR 80 degrees under load you dumb Nvidia fanboy.
Two things
1. I'm a fanboy for correcting your blindly devoted view? Yeah, That's a first one. I've repected the fact that the new archetecture introduced in the 5000 series have a low temperature and power consumption since the beginning, as well as the performance of the 5000 series before Geforce 400 was released.
2. Yes, it does. You're not the only one who have owned a 4870. I've worked with several different brands of 4870 and all of them ran quite hot under maximum stress

1. That way you do it, yep.
2. Then you suck at your job. Mine almost never goes past 65 degrees while playing a game.
What, GPU's that reach above 80 degrees? You either live in a hot climate or have a crap ventilation if you get that.
*enter popcorn emoticon here*

Obvious not serious comment is obvious, besides we made that joke when his first GPU caught fire.

My ATI Mobility Radeon HD 560v easily reaches 90 C'.

Well Binary likes to take every opportunity to question our hardware related issues so I figure that I should oblige him. It keeps him happy I suppose.

This thread is evolving, revolving and stuff all the time. That's why FPFA is our nice little world, where everyone is nice to each other, behave well and treat one another equally.

Forgot to comment on this earlier but, aren't you glad you pointlessly wasted money on that 12GB of RAM that you ABSOLUTELY DIDN'T NEED IN A MILLION YEARS? I bet your face sure is red.

You just jealous that i have a pc and a mobile heater all in one, which is quite useful here in Finland. It is always so cold and we have polar bears on streets.
My ATI Mobility Radeon HD 560v easily reaches 90 C'.
There is your problem. Afcourse laptop GPU reaches those temperatures much easier. I have a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 in my laptop and shit that easily gets hot. I should measure the temps sometime on school when I have nothing to do.

Because one bad unit totally means the whole series is shit, right?
FYI, the card didn't die of heat. It had a bad voltage regulator.

Didn't Chunky had a laptop himself?

Lies, got 9800 GTX+ and i can easily make it heat up to 80-90 C'.
EDIT:
Nevermind, didn't see its Test Drive Unlimited. I though it was like Idle and Max temp
And lol @ Idle temp of HD 4850. Are those results really reliable?
Didn't Chunky had a laptop himself?
Yep, two in fact. My current one is fine but guess how my first one died. It overheated.

Impossible. I have a Gigabyte HD 4850 and as we speak it runs (kinda) idle on 51 C degrees.
