*Parachutes into this thread, toting a White Power T-SShirt (no pun intended) and a revolver.* Hi, I'm the OP. It's my belief that people are not deserving of life if they're unmotivated to work. Sorry everyone who's suffering from depression.

He's saying they're not deserving of free money. PS - Most people suffering from depression will still work for a living regardless.

It is also important to not just focus on the end and instead to focus on the effects of a mean and the potential unintended consequences. Realize that your opponents also share the end you have in mind, it is just that they believe the mean you wish to employ isn't the best way to approach achieve the end or that the mean has more negative consequences. It's a false dichotomy to assume government welfare is the only form of aid program.
That is debating. I don't disagree with his points; I agree with them all, and don't have any more points to add in. Learn what debating is.
+1 agree lol

That's pretty ridiculous. I would probably agree with a cap, I'm sure there a lot of working families who don't even earn £26k a year.

What a horrible woman.

Quite a few people do not EARN 26k/year. I know people who cannot afford to live in London even though they works. Whys should someone be allowed to keep a London home at the expense of THEIR TAXES? I think 26k is high. I think if they work they should have a higher cap though.
give people the same benefits, but make them get a job. the more jobs fired from or turned down, the less benefits its not difficult, people who need it need it and people who refuse to get jobs should be removed from the system
Lol shes uses money to pay rent in london. No wonder she cant get a job, brainless fool.
There are most likely hundreds like her. Cut their benefits down to food, CHEAP housing and the basics. If you were to cut 10 people like her down to £50/week you could spend £275,000ish/year on libraries, which would have an impact on grades, which, in turn, would reap long term benefits. But of course, the UK government does not care about the LONG TERM and those who cannot vote. It only cares about lazy fuckers people who cannot be bothered to look for a job and instead claim nearly twice the average wage in benefits. We young people are being totally screwed over by the budget cuts whilst people on 6/7 figure salaries are left because they are the now. I understand that there are people who try to find work but it is not there. I am not saying cut EVERYONE'S benefits, but those who are out of work for years and are just sitting, like her, on their arses and claiming benefits whilst young people are having to fork out £27,000 to go to uni is ridiculous.
Benefits should work the other way around. If you work hard and pay taxes, you should be given a 'benefit' for being such a cool guy.
Benefits should work the other way around. If you work hard and pay taxes, you should be given a 'benefit' for being such a cool guy.
And if you don't make enough income to pay such taxes, go fuck yourself.
The average low paying job you can find is around 14 - 18k. What a bitch, she's not even british either by the sound of her tongue, came over, husband\boyfriend dumped her and now we are stuck with her and her poor kids.
Maybe if she moved nearer to relatives and further away from the most expensive city in Britain; she wouldn't have to spend more than £26k? [editline]26th January 2012[/editline] This wasn't intended as racism, but if she has no relatives in Britain and can't support herself here, why did she come here in the first place?

I wish i earn't 26k a goddam year, hell my mum earns 16k as a nurse, hard goddam labour. The term "fuck off back to your own country you leech" comes to mind. Shes acts like its not enough! LOL
And if you don't make enough income to pay such taxes, go fuck yourself.
If you don't earn enough you'll be taxed less, what are you on about? [editline]26th January 2012[/editline] I just realized I'm 18 and could apply for unemployment benefits. Fuck that :v:
There are a lot of people in the UK that outright refuse to get jobs and are living entirely from the government.
Prove that this occurs to a significant extent.
Please note that I'd rather have this debate strictly around this literal situation above. Basically saying that if they continuously refuse to work then they should receive no help from the government, and if it happens, they die because they have nothing. Not anecdotes about how you're poor and can't be bothered to look for jobs.
Explain how a discussion pertaining a hypothetical situation with an undefined concordance to reality is at all meaningful.
Prove that this occurs to a significant extent. Explain how a discussion pertaining a hypothetical situation with an undefined concordance to reality is at all meaningful.
Firstly, I could pull up statistics but they're readily available and it is a widely acknowledged fact in England. Secondly, because it leads off to anecdotes about unemployment, which it already has.
just tore up my green booklet thing today and you taxpayers will be glad to know i'll be signing OFF JSA after being on it for just over a month. feels good man
The government should see that you are always better off working than being on benefits, it's a good incentive. I've always thought when it comes to single parents the government should provide a means of looking after the child so the parent can work, such as money towards (maybe even paid) day care or something like that.
i thought they already did, i mean there's a lot of "state benefits" that most people don't know about.
