One of my favorite FPS's was Shogo: MAD. Unfortunately it sold terribly. Mainly because it was released at the same time as Half-Life.
It had awesome music too:

SNATCHER.
Not really a "game" more as an interactive movie, but damn is it good.
By the director of the MGS series, too!

I put more hours into this game than I would care to admit, it is great for relaxing.

I don't even remember why this game went over as badly as it did, I think it had some launch problems, but it was a really good game overall. I nice blend of "modern realistic" and a bit more stylized FPS gameplay, with a movement system somewhat reminiscent of Mirror's Edge (only it actually worked), it also did a pretty interesting job of blending single and multiplayer, shame nobody plays it.
Gonna pick this up when it goes on sale for 5 dollars again.

I thought Dead Island was exceptionally good. Fun gameplay, cool weapon and attack systems, only thing I really disliked was playing campaign as one person and 3 others would magically appear.

not necessarily underrated, but a lot of people don't know about this brilliant game. the amount of detail and creativity put into this is fucking mind-blowing

by "not underrated" i mean i don't think that many people who have played it don't like it, just not very known
As far as its reputation on facepunch?

Sure the premium edition thing was bullshit and there is some bad netcode, but other than that I think the game is okay, but would be even better without the filter, with moddability, and more options for making a game.
Its a good thing this project exists, I think it will turn BF3 into a better game if it doesn't get shot down.

As far as an underrated game in general, this post applies.

A lot of people seemed to think this game was bad, or at least not a worthy successor to SA2. I definitely wouldn't call it better than SA2, but it was still a pretty solid game.

Had this game been finished, it would've been excellent.
But for as far as I know, the released version was only half done.

not really, seeing as how reviews everywhere are very positive. Though, why make two threads? so I guess it's just fine here.
call of duty, all of it after four is underrated in my opinion. a bit like a sports game, they really SHOULDN'T change it much. Though imo modern warfare 3 is just bad.

If you look pass the unpolished and clunky combat, it's probably one of the best written RPGs, and personally I think it has choice impacts that matter more than the Mass Effect series as a whole. You could play the game 3 times and each playthrough would be significantly different than your previous sessions. All the characters as well are quirky, unique and likable in their own way. Hope Obsidian make another one or in a similar setting.

The Nintendo 64 Bomberman trilogy. Bomberman 64 and The Second Attack were a blast(hurr) with friends, and Bomberman Hero was a solid action-platformer, notable for its unique gameplay style in a usually puzzle-based series.

Anybody else play this? Why does everybody say it's crap? It was so awesome, traveling through time fighting aliens with so many different vehicle.
Marble Arena. it was a fun indie game, i used to play 3 years ago, and i liked in game map editor

This game is also known as World War Zero in Europe
The foreign ones have thousands of different front covers tho
Darkest Of Days, I hope the sequel is still being made. ):
That game was fucking cash. An absolute mess in terms of technical, but the gameplay was great.

Vivisector: Beast Within
This is a game that held my attention for a while when I first played it, and got me into the FPS genre. I lost my copy god knows where, so if the demo is a sign of the quality, I'll pick it up again.
Fun Fact:
It was originally going to be a Duke Nukem game.
EDIT: Played 1 out of the two demos, and my jaw hit the floor when I blasted the flesh of a subhuman abomination, and not in the Quake 2 way. Flesh dynamically flying off the bone. Holy shit.
Always wanted to try that game out, but finding a copy is near impossible.

I couldn't enjoy that game after I learned that all the npcs have no AI, they stand still unless they're in a scripted sequence, you can bunny hop right past them and they wont follow you, and they immediately lock on to you if you enter the room. Shame because I really liked it, and I'd kill for an fps with anime mechs.

i always thought that game was awful, only redeeming quality was the fact that it's C&C
[editline]27th April 2013[/editline]
as a user said on the first page, the darkness games, especially darkness 2.
i got it on sale for like 10 bucks and it really took me by surprise. the gameplay wasn't amazing by any stretch of the imagination, but the story was really great and the artstyle was superb. everybody should check that shit out.

Pretty solid if you want a tower defense type game that isn't in flash like the other frickin ones.
That and the setting is greatly underused.
