Yeah came back after like a 50 day break :v: and I added the light white glow because you can't see the text at all on some backgrounds.
You should just have some bold white text with shaders instead. Looks a lot better.

To be honest - it's your fault.
there are more and more non 5-minute-addons which are being cloned, since the beginning of this.
Most HUD's and Loading URLs need way more than 5 minutes, because in most cases, the biggest portion of the time is spend on the design.
Making a good design takes time, copying one does not.
I dislike designing visuals, but I feel sorry for everyone who spends serious time designing good stuff, since this effectively gets rid of them, unless they bend to your will and only create free stuff.
you gave pasters a way to paste from leaked addons and take over the credit.

aka, you did a good job at [B]speeding up the evoloution of the non-original gmod servers[/B], even though I'd assume it's all good as long as no one clones your SF addons, since you can use them all for your own TTT server.
But obviously, most non-coders won't care where the code was made and who it's from, and if it's even legit as long as it is free and does the same as another one ( Which may be purchasable ).
Before the trend, ~25%-30% ( According to collected statistics ) were already using leaked copys and they still do. That means every 4th Server you encounter will still use leaked addons.
I don't want to sound mean, but I doubt you will even be wise enough to realize what you done, considering cloning is why most people know your name but hey - it's worth a shot.
Edit: Oh and in case anyone thinks I'm an angry seller, none of my scripts ( and programs ) have been cloned within 5 years of being a programmer.

Well if you take 5-minutes literally then I think you would be hardpressed to find any project to clone, I couldn't complete a project in 5 minutes. The goal is to clone the concepts of paid scripts and release them for free either for fun or because they are low-effort (not 5 minute scripts).

I also dislike designing visuals and agree copying them is simpler. But you are mistaken if you think that my will for the Gmod community is to only release free stuff, the most obvious sign being that I sell a few scripts of my own.. I could care less if someone releases scripts or sells them, I give out the majority of my projects as I like that they can be used by a wider audience (thousands instead of dozens) and that my code is available to be improved on. If somebody wants money for their effort thats totally fine, there is a whole lot of amazing addons on Scriptfodder.

I have never supported or encouraged that kind of behavior ( see quote below ) and I definitely would not praise anyone who does it. If you know of people who do that, then they should be banned from Scriptfodder at the least. All my cloning projects were other people's ideas written with my code.

I don't disagree with that, I've thought about it myself and compared to to real life products. Though I would say taking ideas and creating your own version of them is not a terrible thing

Not sure how I tie into that first part. Is a server unoriginal for using Workshop addons? Or does the unoriginality come from Scriptfodder alone? If the only way for a server to be original is having their own developer then I would say that script cloning had no effect on that at all.
I don't run a TTT server or any server for that matter, I don't have any ties to any communities either. I code for my own personal enjoyment. Nobody has cloned any of my paid addons but I would have no reason to get angry, its the point of script cloning. A few people said they would clone some of my stuff and I was okay with it though nothing ever came of their projects.

I heard from the holy gospel of Dr Phil that the word "but" means "forget everything I just said, this is what I really mean" which is kinda what that sounds like. I know what I've done and I know the implications considering I've got experience in giving out scripts and selling scripts just like you do. And I'd like to think people know my name because of the content I put out, not neccessarily because of this cloning thread which I've pretty much stopped doing.

Just so this is clear I'm not trying to start a flame war or anything, just responding to each of your points. You've got some valid points and I respect you and your work in Lua though I disagree on some things :p

Most of the non 5-Min-Addons wasn't planed as an Cloned Addon. Most of the Time the people wrote the script for their own purposes and then released as an alternativ to it. And to be honest, i'm happy that there is an good, free alternative to some addons.

And again some stops to discuss. The Problem with most Scripts (aka why their are cloned) is, that there are not worth it (4-6 Bucks for an 5 Minute Script. Heck somebody sold an DPanel with an connect button as an Server Hopper for 3 bucks.)
Exho just got 3 HUD's for an Total of 2.97$. For that price it's hard to get 1 HUD.
Okay, his Mapvote is a bit pricly imo, but even that is the lower end of the mapvoting addons of SF.
Btw, i'm someone who bought some addons (mostly because im supporting that particular dev) or write them myself. And i love to share my code, so other people can learn out of it.
My mapvote was priced like that cause it was the biggest project I had done so far and I sold it because I had put a lot of effort into it. Then the gPhone came along and made the mapvote look like a barrel launcher in terms of code

I'll respond to your post first, since it's smaller, even both of your posts have the same arguments, however, I won't use that many qoute blocks since your post isn't that big, and the qoute tags stretches out the whole layout.
I used the term 5 minute addons the same way you guys did, a small frame of time ( like you did too at the end of your argument ).
And it did happen, more than once, if you try to argue by saying something didn't happen, add me on steam and I'll provide proof.
Your third argument, with the "faster than lightning speed" is invalid, simply because you it has nothing to do with "the speed of light". If people only can make every server look the same by paying money, vs for free, it'll obviously happen faster when all of the stuff being reused is free ( aka, everyone can get it instantly ). If an addon is simply a DPanel with a connect button, that isn't something someone spent a lot of time on for example to design it.

I think this thread started of good morally, but overtime it has just kinda turned into subtly trying to remove competition and shaming developers.
a lot of the time, as mentioned before, development time is spent creating the idea, planning how it works, how its visually shown etc, so when you copy something its easy to say it is easy and quick, but in reality it takes a long time.
This thread was better when they actually cloned addons that deserved to be cloned, now it's just mostly wrong and harsh. People work hard on there scripts and use it as a secondary or even primary source of income, and you make it hard for them to make a living when you do this.
I believe you shouldn't be using it as a maim source of income but for some people it's the only thing they have.
tbh which are these really big addons? The only ones i can recall, are ones that already existed [B]before[/B] the Scriptfodder Counterpart or are from the original developer and released them now for free.

I never said that though. The chatbox's only ties as a clone was the design because my original design had a striking resemblance, I released it because there were no free chatboxes

Yeah I managed a TTT server for a while but that was before I really knew Lua, thats probably what you are thinking of. And yeah this is an alternative to using leaks because in my mind I considered this to require actual skill rather than uploading a file that someone else coded to mediafire. I should've clarified the mapvote comment as thats how I [I]felt[/I] at the time, how I justified it when I finished the map vote not how I feel today. And thats interesting, I've gotten people who add me and say I'm like all over the place or whatever and they like my addons but its mostly been about my workshop uploads. I've had a lot of people add me because of the gPhone though. I guess its hard to tell how people first learned about a person...
