I can host the next one if anyone wants me to. I'm always on and can make a neat looking thread.
this game is plagued to never have a good contest

It's better to have a Mod host it rather than a community member

I have thought about organizing a contest, I think they're incredibly fun but keep in mind I've spoken to garry like once and he's terrifying so it probably wouldn't have any connection to Facepunch
One idea that I thought would be neat is to mimic the old fretta contest that happened years back and give everyone a gamemode base to start off on, which could help with the limited amount of time but then again might cause even more problems as you gotta document it, not everyone'll want to, etc etc

Bosses can always be scary :P , People could use github to document the work they did during the contest, Personally I would love it if you hosted a contest like that

If you make one don't forget to include me. Am I able to add the current gamemode I'm working on?
Also it would be nice to not have a theme, i find it extremely hard to get an idea when i am limited on ideas because of the theme.

If you meant for a new competition, then no .. that will give you an unfair advantage.
You are however, able to start it from scratch again (if the theme fits). Just have a proof that you didn't just copy paste your old work in.

It would be nice and more free. However the theme is there to stop people from cheating. It limits people so they can't have a head start.

True, but its not all about winning, or even taking part. It's more about giving something new to the garrysmod community, the competition is i guess give some motivation.
I definitely feel like it would be a good idea to wait before the next GCC. One of the reasons I didn't participate last time was because I got burnt out on the last one. Making a gamemode from scratch is a pain in the ass, and doing two back-to-back isn't a lot of fun. It could be cool to host some other kind of event, though.
Here are some ideas, in no particular order.
- DarkRP edit contest. I know someone was considering hosting one of these but I forgot who.
- SWEP contest. Compete to create the craziest/most interesting weapons, then put 'em in a pack and throw them on the workshop. Maybe workshop users could vote on the winner?
- TTT addon contest. Create some kind of DLC for TTT. Could be anything, from a weapon to a full gameplay overhaul.
It could also be cool to do some sort of cooperative event. Here's a somewhat cancerous post I made on the subject a while back. It could work in a number of ways, either make a github repo and build some form of clusterfuck, or give each person the code for a day and have them pass it on to the next person. Even if it's sure to result in something that's unfun and unplayable, it would encourage collaboration in the coding community, or at least provide enough drama to sustain my sad existence.

I'd vote for a SWEP contest. I know all of you are great coders and it'd be amazing to see what you are all capable of when it comes to SWEPS.(Zombine i'm looking at you bby)
wait until everyone is on their december breaks
let us forget these wounds
Yo. Apologies for my absence, my hardware failed completely and I was unable to secure a laptop. I had to wait a few weeks to buy new parts and a new phone (old one failed too). If anyone knows who walked through my room with a bloody magnet, please let me know.
Now that that's out of the way, back to the contest.
All contest entrants, gamemode or DLC, will be receiving their Steam keys today. I have plenty of keys and everyone will be able to get good games, so I don't see any point of waiting for stuff to be rated. All entries were awesome and I don't think anyone is against everyone getting a bunch of free games. If you're an entrant, please contact me via Steam ASAP so I can get you your keys.
As for the cash prizes, I'm going to be speaking to the cash donors about how they'd like the money distributed. We'll either let ratings determine who gets the money, or we'll do an even split across the board. I don't really care either way as it's not my money.
Once again I'd like to apologize for disappearing and disappointing everyone. I was honestly expecting to come back to a huge witch hunt but after reading this thread and a few others, I saw that people weren't all that angry and just wanted to know what happened. I suppose I didn't have a lot of faith in the GMod community to not try and lynch me but it looks like I was wrong and I'm glad I am.
Hopefully we can move past this and make more cool stuff :)

You're very welcome! Make sure to get some fresh air every now and then.
Yo, I added you on Steam but our timezones seem real different and I gotta sleep now.
This is me http://steamcommunity.com/id/johnjoemcbob (you can tell because the gamemodes we submitted are on the page)
Respect for coming back to this
I sent you a friend request as well, http://steamcommunity.com/id/some---one

Accepted both of you. Going to make breakfast and get back to distributing keys.
Thx for the keys.

I hope that the donators man up to find a winner and give the prize out.
3 people have received their prizes so far. I'm very busy and don't know everyone's timezones so if you have not received your prizes, please send me a message over Steam (or Skype if you prefer it).
