Oh? I provided my points about this, you just blatantly ignored them and gone full ad hominem.

I'd recommend you to say for yourself.

I'm not trying to troll, I'm being 100% honest there.
Do you guys mind not de-railing the thread with this? Whether you agree or disagree with the rule doesn't really matter since it's OP who gets to choose how this works
In a way, there isn't anything to stop people from trying to sell their gamemodes, but you'd kind of be an asshole for doing so since the idea of these competition is fun, to try new things and get some creativity going
Also keep in mind, Mod Mountain could easily decline submissions if people tried to sell gamemodes on their site and ScriptFodder could easily do the same

Money doesn't hurt creativity! Money is the best motivator.
I don't think that it's something wrong in releasing first version in public for free, and then roll out updates for paid version. That's what I'm trying to conduct.

and OP can release the source code and nobody will care about his bullshit copyright

Yeah, gamemode writer work is just bullshit and his rights should be dismissed, right.

you forfeit those rights as terms of service entering the contest

Where it is stated? I'm interested, have you read OP?

i'm still fully convinced you're trolling
this argument is too absurd, so i'll stop replying and just let you get yourself banned
...
1) Define "finished". Finished for contest or what?
2) see: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1477973&p=48316237&viewfull=1#post48316237

I want rules to be nice for everyone, not only for Mod Mountain.

Ugh. Just don't enter. I'm going to stop replying as well because you're a bit hard of understanding.
I'll just wait for OP then rather than arguing with you two.
But does ToS have legal consequences? No, it doesn't. And contest is not a donation.

Stop playing armchair lawyer. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about and I hope you don't decide to sell any of your own work with that kind of attitude.
Edit:
Let me clarify. I'm fine with people monetizing their work. I agree that money provides a great incentive, but when you enter a contest with rules, you are expected to follow those rules.
I don't know why you've got a bug so far up your butt on this. Savary clearly has more to gain from allowing you to sell your work seeing as how he, you know, runs a website for selling mods.
open source doesn't mean not allowed to be sold.
You could at least google open source rights before saying such thing.
1. Free Redistribution
Open source doesn't just mean access to the source code. The distribution terms of open-source software must comply with the following criteria:
The license shall not restrict any party from selling or giving away the software as a component of an aggregate software distribution containing programs from several different sources. The license shall not require a royalty or other fee for such sale.

Accidentally sleep in 8 hours, miss 47 posts. Whoops!
Looks like I missed two discussions so I'll just reply to anyone talking about them at once.
Score Reduction for Teams
When I decided to reduce scores I did it because I was worried that powerhouse teams would come in and wipe the floor with everyone else. I didn't consider that most people didn't actually care, or that Facepunch users are disorganized and a team might actually make things worse. This is ironic considering I have difficulties working on a team; I considered that I was an outlier.
I will be removing any and all score reductions for working on a team. I will not hand out extra prizes, however, I am trying to give every developer a prize. If your team wins 1st place, you will need to split the 1st place prize. If a team does not win any big prizes (1st, 2nd, 3rd) I'd like to give every developer on their team a bronze tier prize (<$25).
Selling Competition Gamemodes
The reason I do not want people selling the gamemodes they make is because of community. It seems silly to make an awesome gamemode for the community, then to paywall it. You may accept donations but that's it. DLC made after the competition may be sold.
I understand that I cannot enforce this rule once the competition is over but I believe that most people will follow the rules and not sell their things. I could write a TOS but I do not believe that it is worth it. I will however forbid any gamemode or DLC created during the competition from being sold on Mod Mountain. I have the ability to run my site as I please and if you want to violate the rules of the compo, you'll have to go somewhere else.
Edit: I have also decided to remove max team sizes. I capped them originally due to how I was calculating score penalties but I see no reason to cap them now. I believe the whole "you must split your prize" thing will discourage massive teams. Even then, who cares? We'll probably just get something crazy anyway.
Thanks for adjusting stuff. Any word on letting people enter and form/disband teams after the compo starts?
Thanks for adjusting stuff. Any word on letting people enter and form/disband teams after the compo starts?
Ah, forgot to mention that bit. Let me do another two of those cool looking "official" paragraphs.
Team Lock-in
If you enter the competition as part of a team, you are not stuck in said team. At any point you may leave the team and submit your own gamemode. You may bounce from team to team, just remember that at the end of the two week period you can only have one gamemode with your name on it.
Late Registration
I will not be closing the registration form until the end of the Gamemode Phase. Please try and register as early as possible so I can properly estimate the amount of resources I will need to have set up to handle everything. This includes prizes and the hardware required to run all the gamemodes.
But then what stops you from selling content and updates for your gamemode later on?
But then what stops you from selling content and updates for your gamemode later on?
Honor system or nothing at all. If your game has to be open-source to qualify then that means we can all steal it from you until you get your prize. After that, you can go and do whatever you want. We just get to keep on with your open-sourced version.
[sp]Who fucking cares[/sp]
But then what stops you from selling content and updates for your gamemode later on?
1. You'll probably look bad
2. If you try to do it on Mod Mountain I won't allow you to
That's about it, really. You can produce DLC outside the competition and sell it, that is allowed by the rules. Future updates to gamemodes and DLC created during the competition and not be sold. You can't make people pay for updates.
Ok so post comp dlc good, updates bad.
Ok so post comp dlc good, updates bad.
Yes, that's pretty much it. I'd like to remind everyone that the point of this competition is to create gamemodes for the community, not to line your wallets. In the future when I run other competition the rules might be different but for now I'd like to keep things free and open.
Will clean code/unclean code be a factor in the scoring?
Will clean code/unclean code be a factor in the scoring?
Scoring is going to be purely based off a handful of different variables and there will no formal judging. The variables I'm measuring are things like average review rating, concurrent players, etc. People could leave a certain rating based off of code quality but that's up to them.
Keep in mind that cleaner code may make it easier for developers to create DLC, which will boost your score.
Anyone want to team up with the reigning champion? Must be lvl 50+ lauwizard to join team Parakeet.
