• Better Combine AI - At least their aiming.
There is only one universe - they are an inter-galactic empire, meaning they actually sprawl across several galaxies. Just saying.
Apparently they did come from a different universe. Dr Breen threatens to send Eli and Alyx Vance to one of them through a portal near the end of Half Life 2. I forgot what that universe/dimension was called. And also Judith Mossman was helping the combine develop a teleporter based on the resistances one, because while (as she puts it) the Combine can tunnel through to another universe, they cannot travel to a locallised area. and Xen is considered one of these different dimensions, as well as the race x homeworld (wherever that may be). It explains in more detail on the Combine Overwiki. (You could be right, but I'm positive that they are a transdimensional empire and not a galactic one. I know I go on a bit but...) [editline]01:52PM[/editline]
Nice idea! Well, the addons in the post before mine didn't work for me. Only filled up the console... But the one posted by me works well! The good part is that Elites armed with the SMG don't fire pulse balls, even if I expected them to do so. That's good. Anyone else knowing a good, reliable addon that makes Combine better?
I once tried an addon that makes AI better. For example hunters chased me over flatgrass. Ordinarily they can't. Same goes for combine soldiers (I think) The trouble with that addon was that human NPCs that would ordinarily run away from a target would simply run into them if they were not armed. There is something amusing about a refugee who stands solidly in front of a hunter who then proceeds to annihilate him. :)
so is anyone actually working on this ???? i just want them to aim and take cover like in modern warfare 2 also health like mw2 would be cool 2

An off-topic question:how do you fix the "Glow-in-the-dark" combine? It truly destroyes any chance for me to be able to do propper posing.
Dimensions and universes are different things, there is only one universe.
Alright then. It must have been a different dimension then. :)
Dimensions and universes are different things, there is only one universe.
Completly off topic statement(sorry). On the contrary, there are possibly other universe, which along with us, makes up the Multiverse. They may not have the laws of physics or other things that we have(which easily explains how the combine and the other aliens either have advanced tech or abilites). Just saying.
The universe is anything and everything, even any other universes, so the multiverse is inside the universe. There's my theory. According to HL2 canon, the Combine are not from any different universe. Xen is a different dimension full of small planetoids. The Combine and every other alien species you meet in the series are from there. The Combine are a collectively-intelligent species of brain slugs which have mind controlled other species, making them a part of their interstellar empire with little to no combat involved. Earth, on the other hand, is an entire planet, probably bigger than all those other planetoids combined, with an obviously larger population of much more aware people, and that's the symbolism behind the humans being able to resist the everlasting might of the Combine.

The vortigaunts mention their homeworld at one point and it wasn't from Xen. And the Combine expand their empire by, like you say, controlling them, and then fusing them with machinery to become a cybernetic creature known as a synth. But I don't think all of the aliens came from Xen, more like they use it as a dimensional slingshot to get to earth. I beleive the Nihilanth was in service of the Combine because of the surgical scars and amputated legs- Its basically a mutated alien controller. And on topic: we need an addon that basically places AI nodes or something- Silverlan is working on that in his new Half Life Rennaisance: Reconstructed. Maybe we can do it then?
http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Xen
Xen is the home of various organisms such as the headcrab, the barnacle, and the vortigaunt (aka Alien Slave).
It isn't limited to only these aliens, surely, and I can only imagine they came from there. If not then yeah they did just use it as the dimensional "slingshot." I agree with the need for something to place ingame ai nodes. Too many maps are without them.
Allright, got another sollution for our problem. Not only it makes NPC work on maps without nodes, it also adds many things to what they do! Elites use the AR2 secondary fire, while normal soldiers throw nades. Also, metrocops use Manhacks. Here's the link: http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=725556
Hey I made that :P I could possibly help you guys out.
Hey I made that :P I could possibly help you guys out.
I'd really like if a good LUA coder like you could at least try to solve our problem. Oh, and nice job with the addon mentioned by me. Makes battles more challenging when I try to hide behind a corner and see a grenade at my feet. I ussually freak out but that's my problem... I really hope you could do something about the stormtrooper effect on the combine.
Hey I made that :P I could possibly help you guys out.
You could indeed. :)
I have just finished my gamemode I've been working on, now I just have to finish the map. So I need to finish this project first and then I will try and start on this one. You can add me on steam to tell me some of your ideas for this if you want.
Thanks alot for trying to solve the Combine problem!

Your only trouble is that unarmed humans (and maybe combine) will run straight up to an enemy and not run away.

My only problem, like Timenova said, would be the fact that unarmed people (and Kliener) run towards the enemy. Also, this is probably the wrong place to post this sorry but I have a suggestion for an addition to it. You could make it so that vortiguants use the new attacks from EP2. I have never seen them use them in Gmod but I thought they were awsome.
Yeah its just a simple AI and it's alot harder to make them do that kind of thing with out nodes. With nodes the game engine handles making them run and hide and when to start attacking. The thing I actually use to make the npc's move around is actually a npc developers debugging command to test the movement of an npc. I can only do so much with the limited functions for the ai that dont use nodes. But I really just made it for myself to give flatgrass a little more entertainment. Edit* If you want to see them in gmod type this in console give npc_stalker and they will both use neat attacks. I will try and see about adding a few updates to it.

I have them, and they shoot a very weak laser. I had to download a fix for the glitch that occurs when you kill one.
Hey, TB, did you finish your map?
lol, nooo had to fix a few things on the gamemode. The map is very big and detailed so it will take some time plus its the first map I've ever made as well as my first gamemode and I'm the only one working on it :/
Anyone found anything else that enhaces the Combine AI?
Have you tryed this yet? I haven't ever tried it. http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=32647
Have you tryed this yet? I haven't ever tried it. http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=32647
Its basically something like your AI addon. :) But it makes unarmed citizens run...very far. And helps the combine a lot.
I'm trying the one TB posted. Did anyone found anything else? EDIT:Didn't notice any difference. Does it work in Single Player?
I just made a request, just like this a day ago. Sorry about that, I didn't even see this thread. REALLY nice to know I'm not the only one who hates the retarded combine AI and the insane aim of the rebels/citizens.
Looks like we've got another supporter? That's great! Maybe some other scripter would read this topic and realize this is also his problem and that many people need this piece of code.
i would also like to see the combine learn how to shoot..... every time i put them up against rebels the rebels always win even if i have 4 rebels and 20 combine the combine loose. getting boaring watching the combine geted owned all the time, theyre supose to have advanced technoligy and they cant even use it.
Idk if someone else posted this but its been done. I use it. Theirs NPC proficiency which helps and then theres smarter AI where they follow and shoot you.
If the combine had better aim, they would kill you almost instantly. And I think it's better that they have bad aim. Because it gives other npcs and you a chance to fight back. What I think needs to happen is make the citizen and rebel aim worse. It's not fair to the combine and whatever the rebels are fighting.
