Huh, he might be, the last I heard was the contract allowed him to peek into the source code to see how things worked, then fix up his files which he could distribute.
Though that may have changed, but I just can't see Valve being incredibly happy with their engine being redistributed, seeing as it relies on a game anyway.
Why? Every other mod does it.

Hell even I've got access to a lot of the sourcecode. The SDK gives it away.

He's talking about the engine source code.
Update: They can now choose IDs, seemingly any ID.

So people no longer have to join fake servers for them to steal the hash?
Whoever this "Voided" is he should really consider the pain and suffering he is bringing upon us all :v:
These people don't care about the people they may be affecting, they are just in it for the money.
As long as what Flapjack said is not true they are still powerless as long as you dont join a server they control
hey look wat i found

You guys are on to nothing.

Just thought about an easy idea.
Once someone joins a server, the nickname is sent. Save this up.
Then check the players steamid, make a community ID out of it, use a http.Get (you will need an UTF-8 -> ANSI converter for this) request on his community page and compare the nickname.
Only way to bypass this is sending a wrong NickName too in the auth-package.

But you can just do setinfo name can you not?

The fake steamid points to the stolen hash's community page. Also, there is a setting to mimic the name of the person's steamid you stole.

setinfo only works after you connected.

Realized my idea.

Still, needs someone for testing it. Cause I wasn't able to.

What about when they take an ID of someone who has never played on your server before? The nickname will be forever linked to whatever they have it set as and the REAL player would never be able to play.

It doesn't save the name. It compares the name to the name on their Steam community page, but since Serenity can change your name to match that player's, it won't work.
Why must people do mean things to other people? :(
Why is in the video nowhera sign of serenity, but only of connection window?
Nowhere I see taht the steamid is changed to another one, isted I see at least 1-2 jumps, where it was edited.

Good idea! Let's just pretend it's all a hoax and never really happened.

Couldn't agree more.
These funny ratings are getting old.

its blocking out the bit where they have to connect to VoiDeD's server

They don't. People using the Serenity client join a local server on port 27000.
Hurp durp we all know he made it.

I hear Avaster coded it

That's a pitty. I'd better compare something else, e.g. the avatar.
I already said, it's exploitable. At least it IP-Bans someone once he gets steamid-banned, so steam-id spoofing becomes useless.
Anyway, if you or anyone else has better ideas to stop it: Post here or join me up coding "anti-spoofing" scripts.
I know, it'll be always a "exploiter vs patcher"-war where the exploiter is one step ahead (until valve adds a way stopping it in the engine). Still it's better doing something against it than saying "Oh gawd, that all is so 'baaaad' - whine".
Seriously, I'd like to spoof my steamid myself but I have no time to figure out how exactly to change the auth-packet. Further more I respect those who figured it out - yes your E-Penis is 1km long - but I dislike how you "sell" your knowledge to the "common folks" - That's against the "codex"
