Holy shit, I had no idea of the absolutely bullshit workload you have.
And here I was being a little shitcunt making jokes about how Garry is a cockhead for slipping up on this one tiny thing .

Anyone in a job has a massive workload, it's just about prioritizing it all...

Don't know about dota 2 or cs:go.
I'm pretty sure they've got bad ones.

Whereas gmod is flooded with children playing DarkRP, you can't go five minutes in CS:GO without hearing "AXAXAXAX CYKA BLYAT" or "PUTO MIERDA JAJAJAJA RATA DOTA" in Dota.
The more popular a game is, the harder it becomes to maintain a respectable player base.

Thats spanish and means: fucking shit
Ladies and gentellemons, i'd like to open this problem: https://github.com/Facepunch/garrysmod-issues/issues/869 for discussion. it seems that sound scripts take a ridicules amount of time before actually playing the file compared to straight up playing the sound because it will search everywhere to find said file before playing it.
The issues seems to be closed even though this has never been fixed ( as i couldn't find it in any patchnotes )
So, could we get updated on if this ever got fixed, and if so, why is showbudget still telling us a different story?

Literally translated into "bitch shit"
Also, I wouldn't trust the Dota community to conjugate anything correctly
Right, so, since RobotBoy doesn't seem terribly interested in spending the time to replace Awesomium... Other than Noi, did anybody else here with the experience necessary to help with GMod's Development apply? I would in a heartbeat, since I'm absolutely sick of the state of HTML Support, but I don't know enough about low-level programming/C++ to do so.
It's bullshit, usually you learn while you're making things.
I know... I'm proficient in Lua and Python, but those aren't low-level or even C-based.
It's a shame that people are digging into the one person who works on the game.

I got my intro to C++ from reading the SDK 2007 leak code; gave me a really nice perspective on the C object-class system, garbage collection, and pointer references.
Applications of a language are always the best way of learning.

I was working on integrating CEF into GMod, but it gets ridiculously tedious at certain point.

I can either work on GMod or graduate on time. Maybe next summer vacation.
Master's thesis on Garry's Mod would be something. I don't think I could write a master's thesis about integrating CEF into a game, though.

My applications using C++ was through cheat development, despite the morale complications, it was a really fun challenge for myself.

What morale complications? I don't see any. :smug:
The more I use C++, the more I hate it with a passion. I genuinely threw a fit of rage when I found out the sudden appearance of dozens upon dozens of syntax errors in files I hadn't changed was caused by a circular dependency in header files. Finding cycles in a graph is about the easiest meaningful graph algorithm there fucking is, but no, Visual Studio 2015 doesn't fucking do it.
Back on topic, I did apply for a summer job, but I wasn't accepted as I didn't get a reply. I'm not even sure Garry's looking for people. Quite frankly I had expected him to barge the fuck into the thread to tell everyone to either shut up about awesomium or get banned :v:
At least that would be an answer...

Yet you can use Haskell without a problem?
Yet you can use Haskell without a problem?
Not without a problem, far from it, but fewer and on average less ridiculous problems than C++. That said, we're derailing the thread into deep language opinion grounds.
I'm for an awesomium replacement, but RobotBoy is not going to do it, and it's not going to happen unless Garry gives the OK. We've got the arguments, but is that enough to get him to give a fuck? If not, what would be?

Well, the community can attempt to do something about the issue :v

Maybe it is time for GMod to become open source. Still better than just a single person working on it part time.

we run on valve's engine; we play by their rules
we run on valve's engine; we play by their rules
As far as I know there was a sandbox game with lua which was open source, but the guy who created it asked garry for tips etc. and one day garry ranted.
Even though, gmod already is kind of open source - the lua files at least.
Stuff like lua_shared.dll could probably be open sourced without any legal trouble

At the very least, I think there would be no problem -- pending Valve's approval -- on releasing files that match the 2013 SDK. GMod is running on the EP2 engine anyways, so they'd just be older revision with changed made by Garry, _Kilburn, and Robotboy.

Good luck on getting approval from Valve for anything like that (source engine team etc), when it takes them 3 months plus to respond to a single licensee support request.
Anything that requires Valve to "do anything", is really not an option, as much as it'd be great for that to happen. Besides it would be nice to solve the issue without needing to rely on something externally.

I really dislike being that negative, but it's just the reality of the situation, maybe Facepunch has a better line of communication than I'm aware of at the present time?

For anyone interested, these moved since Google Code is closing. I eventually ported the source code to 2013, too, but stopped before I updated the VPCs.
https://github.com/Planimeter/hl2sb-src
https://github.com/Planimeter/hl2sb
hl2sb isn't really for most of the GMod community, though. It's intentionally a lot harder to work with, because a majority of the bindings are direct equivalents to Source Engine game and engine code. As a result, you have to know how the engine works. Garry's Mod does a lot of nice things for you.
https://github.com/Planimeter/hl2sb/tree/master/gamemodes/
https://github.com/Planimeter/hl2sb/tree/master/lua
I wanted it that way, because a lot of Garry's Mod addon developers can be really sloppy, and I had this vision for a different sandbox game with a lot more restrictions so you'd end up with a faster, more pleasant game. Source is really, really fast. GMod addon developers generally do not create content that is fast to download, or very performant alongside several other addons.

If you want a better GMod, maybe start looking at yourselves first, and the content you're creating for the game.
It's all a pipe dream.
Maybe it is time for GMod to become open source. Still better than just a single person working on it part time.
That's not really a good idea. There was a time and place for open source stuff years ago, but no one had a legitimate interest. Everyone just thinks its a good idea. In reality, a fraction of the GMod community is capable of working with Source in C and C++, and a smaller fraction yet of that population is qualified to make something good enough to ship.
If an open source GMod was something more people were really interested in, it would have happened. But hl2sb has scripted weapons, entities, effects, gamemodes (plus full AI conversion to multiplayer so campaign works), and a larger API and had LuaJIT from the start plus Lua native modules and it wasn't really enough then, either. It was in development for like 2-4 years, too, so it's not like there wasn't time for people to jump on board. It takes a lot of work to do this stuff, and most people just aren't cut out for it. Plain and simple.
I think FP should just be patient with Robotboy instead, because he's doing a lot of stuff right now and it looks like he's doing the best he can, and that's really great.
So yeah, Robotboy, you're doing some really cool, mostly unthanked stuff here, so nice job!
[editline]Edit:[/editline]
I'm not sure why this is funny, but I don't think I've ever understood FP, so alright.
