Because it's active regardless. This is a stock server, and the notification still appears, with no gameevent.Listen triggering it.
Can you please read? He already said it was a mistake and it will be fixed [editline]11th September 2015[/editline] He can only test so much; it's the community's job to test the dev branch
Link to where he said he will fix it?
Link to where he said he will fix it?
No, he was just planning on keeping and version 7.5 VTFs broken forever. *sarcasm*
it's the community's job to test the dev branch
How the fuck are all of us supposed to test such a thing under a 48 hour notice? [editline]11th September 2015[/editline] IMO updates should be rolled out to the dev branch as an official 'testing' phase for at least a week or two before hitting the shelves, with an official dev branch update being issued out at every few major changes instead of a rolling release type of deal. Nobody wants to test everything after each small incremental dev branch update. It simply isn't feasible for most of us.
Its the job of the company making the product to do quality assurance testing on it. Public testing may help but these are big glaring errors that should have been caught with simple testing. The use of public testing would need to be over at least a week or two. And should only be used to try and find smaller or harder to replicate bugs.
No, he was just planning on keeping and version 7.5 VTFs broken forever. *sarcasm*
Well I was a bit mad when I first noticed it, but then I tried helping by giving the list of games that have broken textures because of it. Plus it's a common thing in GMod to leave things broken, so I wouldn't be surprised [editline]11th September 2015[/editline]
Its the job of the company making the product to do quality assurance testing on it. Literally half of the mountable games now have broken textures from it, this proves that there was no testing done and was just rushed.
I haven't even updated my servers yet clients that have the latest version can still join them. Was this intended?
I haven't even updated my servers yet clients that have the latest version can still join them. Was this intended?
Same. I don't even want to update so that I can still copy and paste and have working textures.
Same. I don't even want to update so that I can still copy and paste and have working textures.
Pasting isn't broken, forcing the user to paste is.
Yes, I admit I fucked up the textures, yes I admit it was my fault because someone actually DID report it before the update, but I had to push it due to the .vtf exploits that could cause extreme/permanent harm to your PC. [editline]12th September 2015[/editline] And no, they won't stay broken for more than a day or two.
but I had to push it due to the .vtf exploits that could cause extreme/permanent harm to your PC.
Look at it from the bright side. At least you have your priorities straight.
.vtf exploits that could cause extreme/permanent harm to your PC.
Now that this has been patched can you explain how this was a thing and what it could do? I'm curious
It has to do with deliberately malformed mipmaps - you skip the first one and put your payload in the second. With how they are loaded, the second mipmap is loaded into a predictable ( and likely controllable ) location in memory, and ends up executed. It could pretty much do anything it wanted - the payload could be a texture on a map, someone's spray, or even a retexture slipped in with a pack. There's a horribly formated i3d post that goes more into detail.
I like how it's the community's responsibility to test the for-profit company's game-breaking updates for them. Stop charging for GMod, go full open source, or pay people to test dev brach or get off your high horse.
Da hotfix is out:
* Fixed VTF version 7.5 support * Fixed lightprobe and jpeg being able to override any file in Steam directory * tonumber() no longer returns "NaN" and "inf" ( it returns nil instead ) - Thanks Willox
I wonder how many servers (ones ran by kids mostly) won't get updated. Because I have just downloaded the hotfix and I can still join my server which I haven't even updated from yesterday. (What happened to the version mismatch error) Will these servers that haven't updated be exploitable even though the client is fully updated?
Will these servers that haven't updated be exploitable even though the client is fully updated?
Seeing as this exploit is about running arbitrary code on clients, I'd assume that it doesn't matter what the server does. (That is, if the server itself isn't affected by the exploit, which I don't think it is.) [editline]12th September 2015[/editline] Ninja'd by Robotboy.
Robotboy, was A2S_INFO changed in any way? My server status scripts have been broken since the update.
Robotboy, was A2S_INFO changed in any way? My server status scripts have been broken since the update.
No.

Oh, just kidding. [del]My implementation doesn't play well with unicode characters, it seems.[/del] database character set issues :why:

It appears like this only happens on linux dedicated servers btw.

Seems like TOOL:Deploy() is kinda messed up. The first time it is ran it will run serverside only and the code in it wont run at all.

He is doing a great job, he fucks up every now and then but the issues have been fixed within 48 hours so it's not terrible. Even if he left, what alternative do you see?
Next Update v4 - Is Rubat Schizophrenic?
Oh boy oh boy, I have got my very own Reddit thread. It'd like to say that I don't know who that dude is, and have never in my life ever "threatened to remove someone's addons because they annoy me", neither did I ever said "Fuck off" to anyone who said "Good morning". [editline]13th September 2015[/editline] Also, I guess it's worth mentioning that I am not the only moderator on GMod's workshop that can ban addons, there are other moderators ( Either Valve employees or, I am not sure but, volunteer moderators from Steam ), they usually only take care of DMCA and other very serious stuff. The only addons I ban are - Reported via the "Report" feature (after verifying that the reported reason is valid), reported to me via PMs or PSAs, or occasionally I go through the image sections and mark incompatible everything that breaks the rules.
"Good morning".
Fuck you too! It's probably someone who got their stuff taken down for putting backdoors in their stuff and are trying a character attack. Or someone who confuses dupes with entities.
