Well, it would be cool to hear a loud slowing down heart beat, that blur idea would be amazing and awesome, they should still be able to move, only they should get slower and slower to the point where they can't move, I mean in Death Note they still move, they just die really fast.
Yeah, they should only be able to move like halo 3 just-gotten-jacked style movement.
Also, again, to be accurate, 1 loud heartbeat, with the effects kicking in just as it happens, followed by death. Have you seen the show? If so go look again, if not, i highly recommend it and have a link to a site with every English dubbed episode as their aired.
No no no, its gotta be deathnote style, 1 single very loud heartbeat sound, and everything simultaneously zooms in, blurs, and turns red, you can't move, and slowly collapse.
The deathnote causes instant death. On the other hand, if there was a poison kill type, that would work.
In fact, me and grease already had the idea and discussed the heartbeat death.
When L dies, it takes a few seconds for the heart attack to kick in, and he doesn't completely die until about 10 or 15 seconds later when he finally closes his eyes. I almost cried. He was such a lovable emo-detective. :crying:
I have seen the show, read the Manga, watched the Director's cut, and have all the sound tracks. I know about Death note, and I know what you are talking about. :)

I was happy to see L die, and I loved when Light goes to L's funeral and does his crazy laugh.

Well... i liked a L a whole lot more then N. But while it's true some deaths were quite prolonged, that was mostly because they slowed it down for dramatazation, the person usually only struggled a good 5 seconds or so, but they usually collapsed quite quickly.
And there was never a warning, like an increasing/decreasing heartrate, it just hit them shockingly.
Here's something from the death note movie. It's in subtitles because it's written in Japanese. Go 2/3's of the way through and you'll see Light's heart attack.

Is that what you're talking about?
The movies for Death note all sucked, I hated them...
They don't seem true to the Anime/Manga.

I actually liked the way it looked. I don't like it as much as the TV show, but I still think it looked good.

That I will agree on, they did an amazing job on the Shinigamis like Ryuk and Rem, they looked really cool.
VGUI is hard. It's getting complicated now. I'll post update pictures at some point. :D
Ray, why would you post pictures of a demented clown in this forum? :v:
I far preferred L to N, and I was sad when L died. N's just a dick, L was actually quite fun.

Anyone notice how an M and an N were brought up to succeed L? :v:
 Alphabet.
L was raised at the same orphanage/school... So, was he succeeding someone?
Unique idea, look forward to seeing this pan out.

Thanks. I sent you a PM.
I won't post pictures till later today. My derma isn't much different than the last one besides for some functionality(thanks to TetaBonita's help). As soon as you click a name it will start the 40 second countdown, and now I need a way for it to do a death when I click one from the list.
I'm starting to rethink my strategy here. I think I'll do it this way:
Primary Fire > VGUI comes up to choose a player > click a player and then press write button > then death cause option comes up and you can choose a death if you want to > press write again to commit and it will happen if you did it in the first 40 seconds.
I want it to show a counter in the VGUI, but I have no idea how to do that.
Then there are other complications as far as all of the button combinations go, but I'll bring that up with my friends.
Here's the next issue: The heart attack. I'm not sure how to make that effect. I'm good with post processing effects but it's such a subtle effect that I'm not sure how to do it. It's so hard to find reference videos that show the heart attack from the victim's point of view. The single heart beat sound is no problem, but the zoomed-in 3rd person view with an extremely short side effect is going to be difficult.
Any ideas? And by ideas I mean a specific step-by-step suggestion that I'll be able to understand. :D

I will try and explain, I don't understand the third person reference. Well when they have a heart attack, first do a Mat Motion blur increase slowly, or make the screen slowly get blurrier as the heart beat sound goes on. No need for special effects, you can use what the source engine gives you.
I don't know how else to explain this in any other way, the heart attack shouldn't be that hard. :(

I mean something cool like L's death in the Anime or Light's death in the movie. For now those are my best references.
Plus a heart attack and fade seem cheap. FluxMage and I know what it's like in the Anime. One heart beat, and in that one second there's a cool effect which I can't really explain. I posted a reference.
At 6:00 there's a good example.
Farewell, Raye Penber.

Raye had one of the longest deaths, he even had a chance to speak, that's more then can be said for most people.
I finished the Death Note. I'll get it in-game and tweak the textures, then get some pics.
What about drowning as a death cause?
I have never seen the show, so I don't know if it is "allowed" or not.
What about drowning as a death cause?

You can make someone commit suicide, and even specify when or how they do it. But drowning wouldn't work unless the Death Note took control and made you jump in the water.
And not all maps have water, and we know taking control of someone is possible ( i believe another tool came out that did that ) but having them path-find their way to water doesn't seem possible.
It was explained in the show that, if the cause of death is not possible, the victim will die of a heart attack by default.
I talked to 1/4 about a control SWEP or tool a while ago, he said it would be possible, but you would have to direct them manually into the water and into where they go.
I always thought controlling someone would be fun.

I look forward to seeing this, awesome.
For drowning, one way would be to check if they are in the water. Then that death would become an available option. I know how to check that. It's used in the headcrab pill.
Also, I suppose for every death there would need to be a way to do that. Then it could show available deaths. On the other hand, stuff like weather could always be available.

Well for lightning, would it be possible to check if any object with collision is directly above them? And only allow lightning to strike if not?
Also, always give them the option to choose whatever death they want. Don't make it disappear, if 40 seconds pass, and the Death still isn't possible, they should have a heart attack, as stated in the rules.
Also, just thought of this, in the menu, set up a bar so that you can set the delay on death. It just has to be greater then 40 seconds.
-snip. Flux has to stop posting while I type. :argh:-

On another note, i think this is a little too big. :v:

Bolt from the Blue death.
Have a harpoon appear randomly and skewer them through the head, possibly causing it to ASPLODE in a cloud of gore, ReDead style.
I had thought of a pretty cool idea about traffic accidents.
If you used the cause of death as "Car Accident" on a player, and if that player was driving a vehicle, it'd be pretty cool if in 40 seconds, their screen becomes a little reddish and a big heartbeat sound rings through their speakers, then they lose control of the car and crash into a wall, dying on impact.
Also, can there be an actual Shinigami which follows the Deathnote owner around when it is deployed? Other players will not be able to see it, nor can they, or you kill it, but I guess a new model will be needed for that.
Pretty epic, but hard to implement, idea.
Seriously, i REALLY like that idea.
In ReDead, the survival booklet in the gamemode has a custom VTF onto the VGUI, shouldn't be too hard if you see how it's done.

Very useful. Should it first ask if you want to choose death cause?

Also, how many reskins are there?
