Wonderful! I'm a huge halo fan and this, perhaps, would be very useful. But it would be even better if it made an explosion and smoke when it hit something hard, kinda like a headcrab canister.

Just like old times on the old thread......
Anyway, to comment on the new op picture, it does have quite a bit of specular. Any idea why or how to fix it?

i can fix it, i was just asking if it was too much specular.

Ya, I'd definitely turn it down a bit.
So................ how's progress?
So................ how's progress?
well, it's not going very fast but it is going somewhere.
nothing visual so i didn't make a video because you wouldn't notice anything different. the biggest changes are in the logic of the code. i finished the collision detection system so now i'm adding effects and sounds. i still need to reinstall 3ds max so i can model the thruster effects. ll7 is searching for sounds for the pod and working on an updated model of the pod. i forget the links to the screen shots he showed me but i can tell you that he still needs to add textures. I still need to do the HUD. The collision detection system allows your pod to get stuck onto props, this lets you land on top of contraptions.

Sounds good cheese, I appreciate all the hard work and time you guys are putting into this, it looks great so far and I can't wait to use this thing in a space battle!

Well, technical stuff is the bread and butter of gmod..... Good news though that at least some headway is being made. Keep up the good work!
Will the pod smash through weak props (like crates) and land on solid ones (like metal)?
Will the pod smash through weak props (like crates) and land on solid ones (like metal)?
hmmm...excellent idea!!!!! never thought of that, i'll add it now and maybe a second video.
sorry for the double post, i just wanted to bump the thread to let you guys know that i added a video of the pod smashing though 5 layers of crates and landing.
okay, cool
Yeah, I've found out how to rip models from Halo 3. So, sometime this week I'll get the ODST Pod ripped and rigged so cheese can use it, just need to do some minor texture setup for the monitors and acquire the related sounds. (Don't know about the sounds, I may be able to get them but I cannot be certain if I can as of right now.)

Sounds pretty badass man...... Do you know of a tutorial anywhere on the internet that shows you how to rip modelsfrom Halo 3/Halo 3: ODST? That would be most appreciated, and helpful....
Well, I know this app named alteration can rip the textures just fine, you can get it from rework3d.com under the Halo 3 Apps section, however model rips are trickier and as it turns out, not released yet. I was a bit confused when I nabbed the app, and it doesn't have the model ripping tool in it, but I am in contact with Spartan094. Hopefully he'll let us rip the pod; he has the actual model ripper, all I can do is take bitmaps right now. (Wish I could get it ASAP, but I don't have the necesscary application right now.)
The ripping of ODST stuff is the same as Halo 3 stuff, so it's fairly easy to get the textures themselves, just depends if Spartan094 Releases the model ripping plugin or not, since there's only a few people with the actual models. I've asked him about it recently, since my pod model still needs proper UVW maps and they joysticks added, as well as texturing done to it. (I'd release the actual model right off the bat if I could get the ODST version, since I can spend time working on porting that rather than fucking with UVWs that I honestly hate dealing with.)
Also, the HEV pod model I have is more along the lines of "Concept Art Version" Than "Ingame Version". The proportions are something of a bizzare mix between the ODST one and the concept art one.
alright, check out the first post. i changed the specular map, there a before and after picture. do any of you think the after picture is too little specular or too much or just enough?
It looks a lot better
Looks much better and very sleek... me likey!
yeah i agree,much better! :)

it is and when the pod reaches the beta stage, i'll pick some beta testers from this forum so you can enjoy some of the fun included with the pod.

Hey, if you DO manage to be able to rip models from halo 3, mind nabbing view and world models for the spartan laser and gravity hammer?
Good news on the beta! Just wondering if you need any sounds for the pod?(I am already working on some for a separate project.) I'd be happy to pass them along when there done if you need or would like them.

actually ll7 seems a little too busy to get me some sounds so it would be nice if you could get me the sounds.
Can't wait to see this get done cheese :v:
