I feel like rolling updates would be a better solution so at least when something broken is added we would know exactly what it is. Not saying it should go straight to the live branch but maybe keeping it only in the dev branch for a week then moving it would be better.

Remove weed_system from scriptfodder if you have it.
Edit: Excuse the MunchJR post below, that isn't me. It's just someone who has spent the past year or so spamming my community on every forum he can find :mindblown:

"NOTE! This function only works on BaseAnimatingOverlay entites!"
So would it work on players or are they not "BaseAnimatingOverlay"s?
It's back on the old version for now. There will be a follow-up patch (optional for servers) that will offer the most important of the changes.
If your servers are too up-to-date.. update them again.

My server is running a newer version than me, I think the server is tripping balls right about now with all this going on.

If you update the server it should sort itself out.

Would be nice if we had a heads up before an update is going live (On somewhere other than here) so we have time to test things; for example most server owners/ devs don't want to have this thread open 24/7 in-case something might change.

fuck that
[editline]29th March 2016[/editline]
does that twitter actually give you any warning, or is it when the update is pushed?

Guilty as well. It's been a crazy month for me. :P I've pushed a workaround for ULX that should keep most people happy for now.
I may wrong, but I found new issue with dcheckbox, now PerformLayout require weight and height, but before all works without this.

It shows changes that have been made that you can test on the dev branch. Maybe GMod should poll a website at the beginning that checks if it has any info to display like Garry did for the GMod 13 update warning?
this was actually all just an early april fools.

Honestly, I think a system which simply has a countdown, or at least set date/time for the update so people can expect it would be all they need. Right now it seems like they just pull a date and time from thin air and only really tell people here.

I have shit internet, I would rather not have to change between the dev branch and normal game any time I want to play/ test.

Because this spamming my feed wouldn't get annoying very quickly... (Those are all within about 20 minutes of each other)
The point I'm trying to make is half the stuff on this thread means nothing to me, its people discussing problems with said updates then at some random point we get like an hour or so's notice before an update goes live.
We are reverting most of the changes ( Important stuff such as crash fixes and DoS fixes will not be reverted ).
Will fix the problems and push the update out again sometime later.
Instead of rolling back whole updates, perhaps a hotfix that doesn't require those who are not squeaking whining ulx users to kick off every player they have to update their servers.. again.

Or why not a simple test of the game before an update? Its a complete mess. They were obvious and pretty major problems as well.

you're a developer
deal with it, that's how things work
you can't bitch about changes when the dev branch has been available for weeks, just because its "inconvenient"

blame addon developers for not taking the time to test, not the team that has communicated clearly and efficiently every change that has been going into this update
Let's talk about how many updates have broken addons in the past. If nothing is actually broken, it's the addon maker's job to make their addons work. Not your job to appease shit servers that can't sort issues out themselves.

It was not my decision and I hate it, but this is how it is gonna be right now.
The update will be fixed and re released in a couple of days or even sooner, depending on how quickly Willox can fix his font rendering changes.

Did you see me once bitch about any of the changes? No, because I know shit is going to break and just deal with it like you say, while I may bitch and moan about it in private I don't do it publicly because it doesn't help anything and I know I'll just get people like you saying what you've just said. All I was doing was making a reply to FPtje and suggesting an alternate method because clearly this one isn't working when people bitch and moan about it EVERY UPDATE.
Just a quick note on the update:
Had it for about 10 minutes on our test-server and physics went absoulte crazy.
When you go relativlely fast with a vehicle, and then something interrupts it's physics (e.g by applying a force or changing vehicle params), the "Crazy angular velocity on entity"-error happened. If you enabled the convars introduced in the february patch, the car didn't despawn, but went full retard on it's physics. If you had them disabled, it would get deleted.
I hope you can reproduce it somehow since my code-example would be kinda huge.

I agree, he's being an asshole.
When the updates break stuff you have two types of mentality; those that like the advantage it gives them. Being able to fix their server, and get it up faster means they get a higher level of exposure.
Then those that need to rely on third parties to fix stuff.
I think we all know which group is bigger, and as everyone has bought the game it should always come down to what the majority want. Not the "elitists". As such I support a rollback. Thats just my two cents though.
You need to remember these fuck ups also put a pretty high load on other people (EG. hosts) because most people playing your game are so out of touch with your development process they don't even realize its down to the update.
I support a rollback as well, as much as I am annoyed by it seeing as I had already fixed most of the stuff that was broken on my server. It'll be better in the long run I guess.

I wasn't even able to join my own server to see which addons were broken. Too busy trying to deal with some net channel errors on connection...
