Was the fix for this not pushed last re-update?
I honestly see nothing there that needs fixing :v:
Several questions arise in my head: who's JetBoom, who's Mr. Brightside, who has the "hack", and who doesn't?
But the most prominent question of all is: why in the world does he think he'll get any favors at all talking like that?!
sadly I'm fairly sure that's the only question without an actual answer...
Jetboom is the oldest gmod player and most talented lua developer I know who has been developing gamemodes and addons since gmod9. His most popular gamemode was Zombie Survival. His community is akin to 4chan which is why he was talking like that in that chat log.

my community has its fair share of cancer. can i talk dumb and call people niggers now too
I would if it didn't get me banned every time.
i've never really thought of noxiousnet being a very good community at all, spreading in-house gmod viruses, causing drama, and when i joined a sandbox server i had to donate to use tools, and all the other players harassed me :v:

welcome to noxiousnet
Huh, is noxiousnet still a thing?
-snip-
I dunno about you but I've had a lot of fun playing on NoxiousNet without being a part of their community.
Most games are more enjoyable if you play them with closest friends and just ignore others (games like dota, lol, any moba, tribes:ascend, garry's mod in general).
-bunch of stuff to send to Valve-
Valve don't care, end of. As far as they're concerned the system works great for their games and everyone else is subject to it.

In theory you could do it without breaking their games in the first place its already AppID controlled, you could easily add a option to filter or not to filter, but you are probably right most of them are lazy people.
I dunno, Robotboy655 added that part.

double-post / merge-post depending on alignment of the planets
I may have an idea about the server list. Now, whether we do this or not depends on how many of you agree, but we have to be coordinated if we do. It's directly based on a recent attempt to get a message across to EA, one which I'm not sure whether it was successful, and perhaps it's too soon to tell.
Basically, we send Valve employees a lot of physical letters regarding this issue. I don't mean spam them, just, each one of us sends a letter to them. But the important thing is to send a physical letter, not an email. As old-fashioned as it sounds it's absolutely necessary. Feel free to watch the video I linked, starting at the timestamp I linked, for the various reasons and explanations (obviously not all will apply to this scenario).
The first step (only step?) to getting Valve to care, is to let them know without a shadow of a doubt that this is an actual, real problem.
The first thing we gotta do is to get the physical business mailing addresses of relevant Valve employees. With Valve's weird company structure that may not be an easy task, figuring out who's relevant and who isn't. If anyone has any leads, feel free to share...
Edit: Oh, if anyone uses LinkedIn and can get a valve employee to notice them that way, do that too. I've never used LinkedIn but I hear it works sometimes.
I had a simpler idea which I told Willox about, using the lobby system. If the lobby system isn't affected by the geoip issue, it can be used to solve the problem. Valve seems to promote the usage of the lobby system ( e.g. their spacewars example only uses it for mp ) and you'd be able to find all servers with gmod then, even if not with the steam browser :v

From what I've seen and tried on the steamworks API, servers can't handle lobbies at all, they're purely for clients to handle parties and join multiple groups of people together.
TF2, Dota2 and CSGO use the game coordinator in conjunction with lobbies, but at the end of the day it's still one extra server.

The people behind Tower Unite, the successor to GMod Tower, are apparently having a first hand experience with issues arising from that as well.

iirc they use unreal engine. Unreal Engines tutorials show you how to do steam multiplayer, but they use the lobby system. I haven't seen a way of doing traditional servers with unreals steam integration yet.

As ley said, that's another issue, lobbies joins work in two ways, if the game isn't open, steam will start the game with +connect_lobby <steamid64> of the lobby, otherwise steamworks will post a callback through the api for the game to listen to.
They probably have issues with the callback system or with the first one due to what Ley said.

TF2/Dota2/CSGO have already that kind of stuff working so that's not related to us.
Just a question, why is singleplayer being a "special" mode still a thing? Singleplayer causes a bunch of issues with weapons and other related stuff, why couldn't singleplayer just be a 1 slot listen server?

Although this sounds good in theory, a ton of addons already does SinglePlayer checks to compensate, to which you could argue that we should just make game.SinglePlayer always return false. However, single player is supposed to mimic HL2 and its behaviour imo so I think changing it might affect how some maps/weapons work (I could be wrong).
Not sure if this is related but some models are invisible because of these errors:

Something interfering with the .vmt files perhaps? Just a guess.
Could you post the VMT file of one of them that's erroring?

There's actually no way to tell the difference between a listen server and a dedicated server, despite there being a game.IsDedicated. That function either does nothing at all or mirrors the opposite of game.SinglePlayer. I asked some questions about it in this thread but Robotboy replied either that that's how the function works in the engine or he didn't know how to correct the issue or something.

Nothing out of the ordinary from what I can see.
Since when did the wiki have advertisements? Have I just never noticed it because of the ad block on my desktop?
It's the shitty comment system.
Since when did the wiki have advertisements? Have I just never noticed it because of the ad block on my desktop?
It doesn't, maybe someone have caught adware?
Do we even need the comments system that seems to have ads now? Everyone that actually wants to make a meaningful comment uses the talk pages system anyway.
