How about calling it some variation of Toy Box and have it work in a similar process to the old toybox?
EDIT: @Lenny Actually I hadn't spoke to Crazy about it yet :v:
We were already planning to build a pwyw site for gmod addons but would better to implement it into this
Lenny, accept my invite please, and Jarva, come online.
You could do it similar to the Ubuntu DL page, where you get the choice to donate or you just click "No thanks, take me to the download"
Name: G-Toys or something like that maybe?
If you're interested in helping out, add me on Steam.

That sounds vaguely sexual, honestly
Seems like fun, I'll provide content i guess :)
Our i could be the ideas guy!! - you guys can get admin if you want

Not to mention already in use by various real toy makers:

Something like the current garrysmod.org but a bit more 'modern' and less cramped would do nicely, I think.
If people give suggests for what would be needed on the front page, I'd be happy to have a crack at some mock ups.
how about gmaddons.com or something like that? Also, I could provide html support if needed, possibly PHP or javascript, but I have limited knowledge in the last 2 and haven't coded in them in ages.
edit -
Editors pick of scripts, some sort of carousal? Top scripts. New releases. Menu bar with Home, Scripts (dropdown categories?), Login (via Steam). Maybe Requests?
we could do tabs with new releases, most popular, search, and categories?
The site is being coded in node, so we aren't really going to use PHP.
I think that requests should be a significant feature. Maybe one big "requests" page, where requests can be upvoted/downvoted like reddit comments. This would let devs see which requests are most popular so they can help the most people with their time.
A featured requests forum would hopefully push development of the Gmod community forward at a much faster pace than we're currently seeing, as most well-written scripts are written privately for only the writer to use.
I made a shitty unfinished website a while ago so I could learn about PHP and databases. It was meant to be like imgur for gmod, where anyone could upload an addon or a script (account optional), and other visitors would upvote or downvote the addon. There was also a "Tested" indicator which could be set by moderators after they tested that the addon worked, and delivered what it promised. I planned a search page (working through keywords in the name and description) and a suggestion page that functioned like CallMePyro suggested, but I never got around to those. I had to put this on hold because of exams and im not sure when i'll get back into it, but Im just sharing if anyone's interested in the concept.
http://scriptsha.org/
also a couple of my mates posted rubbish there as a joke so don't worry about that haha
edit: you can have the domain if you really want it since it doesn't matter that much to me. My co-owner came up with it, it was supposed to sound a bit like the word "scripture", implying holy properties, and "script share"

I was going to ask you whether you were planning to use PHP, ASP.NET, Ruby on Rails, Node or something else - I've added you on steam.
Thanks for not choosing PHP - I could still work with that if it was the case - but it just scares me a little bit. http://eev.ee/blog/2012/04/09/php-a-fractal-of-bad-design/
Is the plan for this to scale to many web servers (web scalez!!), or for it to run one one central server? (Thinking use of Postgres or Cassandra as suggestions)
If we use github as the backend, people can upload maybe a link to an image, a link to their github repo and then tag certain releases within their git repo according to http://semver.org/. Then, when they need a certain version, the website checks out that version from github and offers it as a zip (or whatever format). It could cache that download in RAM so it doesn't have to check the same file out every time. Might need to check the github terms about scripts on other sites checking things out automatically but it could work in theory.

It'd be really cool to see a commenting system like on coderhire, aswell as a cleaner theme maybe? The current theme looks good and would work and all, but maybe an orangeish theme like coderhire would look better in my opinion. Also, if any graphical content is needed, I'm up for helping. (Logo, banner, etc)
I also feel like most of the content should be sized down a little allowing more space and would just make it more orginized in my opinion. However, I do like the general idea, and I can't wait to see this finished! Also, will there be a user system? Like private messaging, giving reputation, and getting rid of the "unique password" to delete an addon? Seems pretty messy in my opinion.

"Tells the sidebar to fuck-off" Best description 10/10 lol, anyways thanks for your design!
A very quick mock up that took me like 10 mins.
Anyone is open to suggestions!

EDIT:
Like the idea of having a static bar to show settings and such (Arizard)

This would in fact stay on the page at all times to help with quick navigation. Small enough to not annoy you, but still there when you need it.
Why don't you guys ask garry? I think he would be more than happy to give the domain away.
Since we seem to be going for tiles, why not scale the amount of content to fill the screen?
tried doing a mockup

In before someone says it: I don't think we will be needing a mobile / responsive version although if it responds, great.
I have a small request I'd like to see. If someone does upload something to the new site, I'd like to easily tie it to a workshop version. Maybe like a "View on Workshop" button or something.

Do you mean like "Also available on workshop" or when you upload, it uploads to the workshop as well?
If you guys are doing this in node, Jade is a pretty spiffy template engine that might work well on the front end
speaking of tiles and filling the whole screen with content, what about a layout like http://itch.io ?
[t]http://puu.sh/aH0V9/b1b55ea3a4.png[/t]
Uh and making mock up visual designs without us even having a design draft (not visual, generally) for the site is pretty pointless too.
[editline]6th August 2014[/editline]
And the site will obviously be responsive to all screen sizes.
I quickly drew this up before you posted that message, since I wanted to give it a go :v: I've only just noticed the coolvetica I have installed doesn't allow me to do non-capitol letters and I've always wondered why mine looked different to everyone else's.
Please don't be afraid to call my design shit just because I'm a mod and my title mentions I do graphic design, I am perfectly capable of producing garbage.

It might fit a blog not a website where users browse for downloadable content
... and the colors especially the light grey are kind weird
pls no ban
