I think people are looking at this as a combination of the workshop plus garrysmod.org plus full revision support for large projects which I'm going to add is an unrealistic view. Yes, it should support gamemodes and RELATIVELY SMALL addons and other goodies. Support for large scale projects like TDM cars and Neurotec is ... difficult to say the least. Allowing people to upload such large projects is a bit silly.
Well there's really no platform for us to advertise the mod, we have our topic which generates a few views and downloads but unfortunately most people doesn't understand the benefits of version control and simply won't download it due to it not being as readily available as smaller mods. I could always setup an FTP server and host the content there but it still doesn't change the fact that we're not really welcome on either Workshop, Garrysmod.org or this new site due to the size. It's kinda discriminating against people who really put massive effort into their work :v:

Thats literally the size of a WoW/EvE Online patch. Break your content up into smaller pieces or something.
Okay so we're debating domain names in the chat and we're wanting to get a general idea of what the best domain would be. - gmod.land (Agree) - gmod.zone (Disagree) - gmod.codes (Funny) - gmod.center (Winner) - gmod.tv (Zing) - gmod.tools (Informative) Feel free to post suggestions too.

I'm actually surprised Assembla haven't kicked us out yet. The thing is we're a huge mod, we have more content than many modern AAA games and we'll keep growing as long as I have an active team to boss around :v: I still think the option to link your own FTP to the account on the upload site should be available. It's a win/win for us and the host since we'll generate views without hogging up tons of bandwidth. Edit: It's not ridiculous that we put more effort into our work than you do :)

The quality and amount of effort that go into a project is not measured by the size of its output. 10GB is a lot to spare for 1 project on some hosts. A lot of web hosts charge for additional hosting and the default is generally 5GB. I do like the FTP idea but it still seems overkill. A lot of addons are mostly Lua and take up several mb at the most (with some models and materials and stuff).
well it might be a tad overkill, but small mods won't need the feature and can thus opt out and big mods will get the attention they deserve :v:
Garrysmod.org was never a host for big mods. It was a host for stupid kids who ripped off/spent 5 minutes coding something that doesnt even work. I understand that this is supposed to server a similar purpose without all the crap content, but seriously.. 10gb ... why do you even need that :l.. Dont get me wrong, I have no problem with large mods (Such as TDM Cars), but .. I dont know.. That in itself is overkill. My current webhost has allocated me 5gb to use and its like $10/5GB after that which sucks balls.

The code is just a few mb large but the real hog is the materials and models. They take up tremendous amounts of space if you want decent quality.

This is about a new Garrysmod.org Edit: Oh come on, nobody wants to hear about the car pack and their size troubles
Never said i was supplying speed, only storage.
What's the point for slow remote storage?
What's the point for slow remote storage?
Huge addons. Anyway let's not discuss this further, it was thrown out there, and it's clearly too slow.
50 mbps? wtf i could use all that with my home connection. slow server.
Only 50? Here in Australia we are lucky if we fucking get 1
Only 50? Here in Australia we are lucky if we fucking get 1
Agreed... The NBN struggle is real..
Pay for a CDN...then offer a "donate" option that closes once we receive enough money, and automatically raises the donation limit with what we have short the month before.
would Garrysmod.mod work?
gmod.works

gmod.sleek
gmod.suckadick PS: I know it's not appropriate and I did not help this thread with anything but it rimes and I had to say it.
would Garrysmod.mod work?
There's no .mod TLD.
Huge addons are terrible- server owners using them lose out on so many players who aren't down for looking at a loading screen for a few hours. 10GB for a car addon is ridiculous, make each car a seperate download or something.
make each car a seperate download or something.
That would be around 25-30 downloads for the few cars we have, and the remaining 300~ vehicles would be a logistical nightmare. We update the mod very frequently and release new content on a weekly basis, it's management nightmare splitting everything up in chunks so that's the worst suggestion so far. FTP would be neat and easy because I'd only have to upload the changed/new files rather than reuploading everything again. And if you can't be assed to download the content of a server, they probably don't want you there anyway. Edit: Also if someone is dumb enough to queue a 10gb download on join they shouldn't be running a server in the first place. We kick anyone without the mod for convenience because without it they don't have anything to do on our servers.
I thought gscripts.com, gcontent.com or gmodscripts.com sounded fairly good. Well, if we're not going to use the garrysmod.org or another URL has been chosen already.
Currently chatting with some Live Support's and such, turns out CDNs are quite expensive :v: -edit- And what I mean with "expensive". i.e. CDN77 costs $49/TB for EU / USA only. Considering you can get yourself a dedicated server at i.e. Limestone Networks with 10 TB transfer for $260, Limestone is almost half as cheap, and then we still have more we can do with a dedicated server like that... -edit2- Lol they keep trying: "Higher volume plans". We're not going to use 30TB / month, are we?

We don't give you the convenience of downloading stuff when you join because you need it to play, we just kick you when you first join and then tell you to manually download it [editline]7th August 2014[/editline] That entirely depends on how popular the site gets ruben (garry ended up paying $7k/m for garrysmod.org because everyone used it)

I mean, I used to play it, not even knowing it was a leaked gamemode, but I do recall some servers kicking me saying "DOWNLOAD OUR CONTENT PACK AT OUR FORUM!".
I guess they were just too dumb to add a fastdl (one reason might be bandwidth, but you get that unlimited with most shared hosting plans)
