torrenting and mediafire looks like a nice solution
-snip-
I think it'd be best to add an option to the upload page to specify your own mirror, this would allow people to have downloads as large as they want. But these addon would have to be manually checked over before approval.
Pro: You have no filesize limit.
Con: Requires manual approval.
It may but people can vote the links as working or not - also, if an addon is popular, there is more chance that people are seeding it. No solution would be perfect but it would get the traffic right down.
EDIT: I am starting to think this project *might not* work out - because:
- Nobody wants adverts
- Nobody wants to pay.
The site won't be able to run unless someone is supporting it.
It won't survive on donations while the workshop is running. Sorry to sound negative, I want this to be successful but this sounds like a bit of a blocker...
Put some minor banner ads and related to keep it up. Nothing crazy like text highlighting with pop ups (or pop ups at all). People are going to have to deal with ads if they want the site up because those same people complaining about ads are not going to pay money to help keep it up... Those morons will probably ad-block the site but there will still be a margin of people not using adblock or whitelisting the site, and that can bring in at least some income.

Nothing like watchcartoononline.com please... Just clicking on anything will open a pop-up... Though I guess thats why they managed to smuggle such awesome content
Do we roughly know how much the hosting costs would be?
If you have ads, make sure they follow this then apply to get it whitelisted.

And this is why I don't use Adblock Plus :v:

That is why you should use Adblock
Or, you know, CoderHire?
If you are about the logo then CollegeHumor had that type of logo first.
I'm willing to fork out a little for this.
We could get donations, and donators get gold as their reward

ABP also takes up an unusual amount of resources for such a simple addon too.
We set up a trello. Feel free to watch progress. Right now there's nothing on it though, lol. https://trello.com/garrysmodcoders
In before someone says it: I don't think we will be needing a mobile / responsive version although if it responds, great.
Fuck that I use my tablet a lot for this kinda stuff

For downloading and installing addons? Or just browsing them?
For downloading and installing addons? Or just browsing them?
What do you think?! Dumb question.
honestly, I don't think EVERYONE will be using an adblocker. I personally don't use one. Still, we should try to get it whitelisted on ad block plus, and when I can, I'll donate
Mabye just mabye a download limit if you haven't donated. Example 4 downloads per day for a normal user and unlimited for a users who donated.
Edit
Well this is quite a popular idea
Just an fyi G4MBIT decided to make his own site using the ideas here. He is not affiliated or endorsed by anyone working on this project.

3 people missed the point. Nobody that I know downloads addons for gmod (a PC / Mac game) on a tablet or phone. (But then I rembered people might browse).
So is this thread dead and everyone dropped the project?
