Actually, a lot if not all of the coders that are active in the gmodcoders steam group are all for open source projects. Feel free to drop in some time, anyone who can code is welcome.
I just hang out in there talking about everything. I see it more as a general talk for people who happen to program in any language but are involved with GMod...
Well yea that's the idea, I'm just saying that most of the people who are active in it support open source projects.
I'd like to step in and ask if ChewGum is going to keep up support for AtlasChat (which for some reason hates Hide and Seek)
A tag on all servers using coderhire scripts would be nice, sort of liked a "modded" filter option in other games.
Can people please start taking into consideration that not every gmod player cares about every server being unqiue and not all server owners care about the opinions/approval of Facepunch members. You cannot force everyone to start lua coding and having this attitude towards the game is only going to make you frustrated. Like, if you hate Coderhire? Go out and release free content, make tutorials, give in-depth explanations to people asking for help, try out the gamemodes that get posted in Addons and Releases, host servers for them, give feedback and nice comments to people who are bothering to make stuff, etc. There is so much more productive things people could be doing that complaining! Like, I despise Roleplay, so I work on Minigames. I dislike ULX, so I work on Evolve. If Gmod users like things that are familiar, some server owners just want to put together something fun, and coders get paid for it, then multiple groups are benefiting. If you want to break the script-selling/Coderhire mold, it means we have to convince the average gmod player to try new things and want to explore. Ranting to other Facepunch users does not accomplish this, because everyone here already has that mind set. People really need to start realizing that just because they want the game to be one way or that Gmod should be a certain way, doesn't mean it currently is or is suddenly going to be that way just out of the blue. It's going to take effort from multiple people. Like, Exho dislikes Coderhire so he made a cloning thread and released a bunch of stuff for free. AnonTakesOver made a request thread and made addons for people. Imagine if all of the users who complained about Coderhire did something like these two? It'd be fantastic!
a better coderhire
If I spend months coding something cool im not giving it away for free! Are you nuts?
