CDs are cheap, everyone has an optical drive, and this is merely a suggestion to allow tangible goods to exchange hands for the sake of protecting the seller from chargebacks while making coder-hire team some cash for shipping a cd.
A USB stick could be viable, but where can you find one for sub $1 like cds?
my laptop doesn't have a cd drive
however it does have 3 usb ports
what if we bought this and split it up into 64 1gb usbs, therefore costing around $2.35 USD each? however if that is too expensive, most scripts don't require much space so we could easily split this usb into 128 500mb drives, therefore reducing the price per usb to 19 of your american cents! the future is now acecool!
It's still much cheaper to use CDs. I can get a pack of 10 for ~less than a US dollar.
That being said, couldn't the buyer still chargeback before the CD is shipped and get the code anyways?
if you put naughty things on the CD if he chargeback you can ring the FBI and they can drive him to your house in the party van to apologise
If you lose a CB on paypal, you're awful at proving he's wrong.
If you lose a CB on paypal, you're awful at proving he's wrong.
Depends.
The chance you lose a chargeback if he claims it was unauthorized and fills a fraud (as if it was directly from his credit card (parents credit card*) ) is high.
People have tried that against me and I never lost because I 'd just show them proof of them:
downloading it
using it
ownership of said steam account that bought it
also generally they buy it with the same IP so..
The main issue at hand we seem to be forgetting is the convenience that Coderhire offers. It allows both coders and server owners to link together within one community and easily post jobs, sell their scripts and communicate on what they would like done all within an easy to use environment accessible at any computers/smartphone/tablet. If we take that away and add in physical goods to the process, things are going to get messy real fast.
What the major plan should be is a way to reduce the amount of chargebacks that can be caused all the while retaining the purpose of Coderhire. Sadly it isn't going to be easy whatsoever, as there are always those types of people that will abuse the system just because they believe they're being a modern day Bonnie and Clyde (or just Clyde) and saving money while making their servers. (SUPER UNIQUE DARKRP #3 US [FASTDL || SUPER UNIQUE] anyone?)
What I would suggest is if at all possible, give the people of Coderhire a template that they can follow in the case of a charge-back, showing different evidences or things like that, since when it comes to many of these things people can be new to the subject and not sure how to approach it. Even include different pieces of information such as if the server was ever used with the person in question (for example you select a name, and it checks to see if it was ever used on a server by them and which, providing different pieces of information that can be used to help) and I also suggest if you have any conversations with said person to record them with screenshots or video records. This also helps further strengthen your position.
You'll always have people who charge back and use bullshit excuses such as "It was fraud, my child used it, etc. etc" and even if we had physical goods the same excuse could be used. Yet I head back to my main point - Keep it online, convenient and pleasurable to use. Take extra precautions when selling/working and just hope for the best. I apologize for my long post, but I felt my two cents could be of some value.
I'm just... gonna throw this out here.
Why not do something like lock somebody's account if they chargeback once or twice? Steam does that, and with Coderhire (since this is such a big problem) it honestly wouldn't be a bad idea in my opinion.

Here's the list of stuff Visa suggests merchants should provide when dealing with digital goods chargebacks.
• Purchaser’s IP address
• Purchaser’s e-mail address
• Description of the goods downloaded
• Date and time goods were downloaded
• Proof that the Merchant’s Website was accessed for services after the Transaction Date
Even with all that though, paypal is terrible at dealing with chargebacks. The best thing to do would be to use different payment processors like balanced, stripe and dwolla.
Is Google's payment processing far enough along API-wise to be a viable option?

We do that already, if people chargeback their account is locked.
Also chargebacks really aren't a big problem, since digital goods aren't covered you just call them and tell them it was a digital good, the chargeback is closed in your favour within minutes. The only way that someone was successful was because they could make paypal believe that their account was hacked. This means there is absolutely NO benefit to burning code on cd etc.
To show how insignificant this issue is i'll repeat what i said before:
I've had chargebacks on 1% of all sales last year and of those only 50% were even successful. Total amount charbacked is 0.4% of sales. This is much less than what the paypal transaction fee cost me!
It also isn't a big problem because if people really want a script that badly for free there are other ways, although the leaks are usually filled with exploits & backdoors.
Paypal has been perfect for me aside from the fees. The transfer to bank is almost instant, they were very helpful with chargebacks in general and there just isnt a more comfortable payment service from what i've seen (i've used google checkout and amazon but they weren't as simple).

By chopping it in to a bunch of pieces? I'm a fan of this plan

But there is an auto-ban for reversing payments.
I hope paypal enjoys my response to the dispute:
"The buyer has received the item, but it's pointless for me to reply to this case because you'll return the cash anyways.
Good job Paypal, you are officialy helping people in piracy."

we have the technology
it will work as long as you do it carefully
also it doesnt work with fans because removing a blade will cause the fan to be unbalanced and fall over, thus nullifying any cooling effect the fan would otherwise produce (unless you are ground)

-Have you leaked my script?
-huh...NO! I'm just using it on my servers
Should charge him for every single server it's running on.
So this is an odd situation:
1) I apply for job.
2) I'm at work later that same day.
3) Guy accepts bid.
4) 4 minutes later guy wants to withdraw the job without any conversation.
5) I get home, deny it and await for the guy to talk to me.
Why post the job if you're not going to follow through, or even accept if you're going to withdraw it?

Maybe because they wanted to make an edit, but they can't do that once someone has applied?
