I'm sorry _Undefined. I'm not proud of my actions back in November, in-fact I still cringe when I think of our email exchange up there.
My general views on the site have changed over the last 6 months however.

I never really liked the concept of selling scripts to begin with, I thought the whole place was a joke. I just said, "fuck it, these guys will eat anything up if it has a price tag", and uploaded some shit. After seeing how CoderHire has changed Garry's Mod's direction to be heading toward's a cliff, my views on the site became much stronger. I realized that Garry's Mod shouldn't be one clusterfuck of people making shitty addons for money and people running those shitty addons.
What would Garry's Mod currently be like if Coderhire didn't exist?
I can't imagine it being too different to how it is currently, honestly
Eh, I feel there would be a lot more creative content than "HUD HUD HUD HUD oh a weapon HUD".
I do have some interesting ideas I want to bank on though, I just have to learn how to database. I think it hasn't been done yet, so we'll see..
Well, most communities were already making scripts and HUDs like that but they would keep it private.
The way I see it is that back then it was either private code or free public code. Which is okay, but nowadays its more "sold code" or "free public code", which I find a lot more interesting since it gives a chance to communities without coders.
That's my opinion on the matter anyway.
I think it also lead to communities having a chance to be more successful and stay as such, without these dime a dozen servers being popped up because of Coderhire, which leech players from the major ones.

as a developer saving up for an education while also working a minimum wage job and trying to balance my life, coderhire has given me a lot of support in very dire times. not everyone can afford to simply code stuff in their free time and not make a dime off of it and if people feel that the scripts the developers on coderhire are worth the money the developers are charging then they're fully within their right to purchase and use said items, it doesn't really matter what you think gmod "should be".
I don't think you need a "good HUD" to get a popular server - that's not the key.
In fact, half the crap on CoderHire is irrelevent to creating a "better game".
Here's a shit HUD I made for my DarkRP server - it tends to get 20-30 players a day, and I use no CH content whatsoever.

It's the simple fact that CoderHire HUDs look like they've been taken from another game, and that the server owner likes it. 90% of CH scripts are counterproductive because you can join 95% of DarkRP servers and see a CH HUD, load screen, ATM, or F4 menu. These don't add to roleplay, and it's boring to see the same repetitive shit on every server. That's ruined the point of "good" or "unique" servers existing. Before CH, a "good" or "unique" server would have a nice looking custom written HUD, its own custom written F4 menu, etc.
Now, there is none of that. You merely get script kiddies who have mummy's credit card and an unlimited budget who install as many CH scripts as possible, alongside ULX admin mod (and its CH modules) and as many pointless DarkRP RDM encouraging jobs as possible.
I think the key to a "good" DarkRP server is to actually encourage roleplay, not always involving fighting, and have a good administration team. Hell, if someone ran a vanilla DarkRP server with events, a good and friendly administration team, etc, it would most likely get more players than a server full of jobs and CH content. I know this partially contradicts my previous point about "custom written" visual content, but I'm merely proving a point about how CH's DarkRP content is bad for garry's mod servers in general.
i do agree some shit on ch is outrageously priced though. anything over $15 is crossing a line in my mind.

I don't think that's a good perspective. Most server owners are going to put CH content on their server so it looks good and so people donate for more jobs, admin commands, or otherwise. If you don't want to run a garry's mod community for the community aspect, don't run one at all.
[editline]-[/editline]
[sp]my automerge[/sp]
Look at it this way: nobody is losing out. Players donate more money for extra perks, server owners make more money from donations and buy more content, developers make money from selling their content.
Really, everything is exactly the same as it was before, except now, the people who put time into making the content get paid instead of doing it all for free.

I fully agree to this. Before CH, I'm pretty sure a server owner must've known at least some Lua to do the basic stuff. Now, I got a job to make 4 custom weapons for a TTT server, where pretty much all of them involved either changing one basic variable or copy-pasting a function.
What I'm trying to say is, with CH, there is really no requirement to know Lua to run a community. I mean, why bother to learn when you can take mummy's credit card and pay someone else to do it for you?
Before CH a thread existed where people would hire people anyway so if anything CH just made everyones life easier?
Wasn't there a fucking 70-paged Facepunch thread where people would post a price and what they wanted done before Coderhire was a thing?

This logic can be applied to anything in the world.

Some players occasionally report that "OMG HELP IT'S NOT WORKING!!!11", and it turns out it's because files in /lua/autorun are missing.
Is anyone else getting this?
[editline]8th May 2014[/editline]
The only advice I give these players so far is "Redownload it" and so far, it seems to work. I'm just wondering if anyone else has this problem.

Why do you guys disagree with him? I find that it's an issue mostly with Filezilla, Sometimes when you get lag or a quick but not very noticeable internet disconnect for some reason it will upload everyone file but a few or something, I've had it with all kinds of addons, It's not specifically one addon just how you upload files.
Why do you guys disagree with him?
Can't speak for the other guy, but for me disagree meant that no, I haven't ran into the issue he described.

That's because people ignore the fact that instructions state clearly "Install it in garrysmod/garrysmod/, nowhere else" Yet they always install it in addons/darkrpmodification/

filezilla is really shitty and tends to drop files by the looks of it, i've had a client try to extract the files to his server 3 times and he always managed to wind up with an incomplete installation

or maybe that dude was just dumb as bricks, who knows

Knowing CH, probably the second one. I haven't had any troubles using FileZilla when I ran a server.

Maybe you just had perfect internet when uploading?
When I used a GSP I had the same FileZilla problem.
When I switched to a VPS I had no problem. Could be cause the FileZilla server for a GSP is used by a lot users sometime. I don't know

Thankfully no one was that stupid... yet.
Although, there was that time where I got a 1 star review because someone didn't know how to set up content.

Yeah...They download the zip, and paste the zip on addons...Then they say that the addon doesn't work at all...
