I guess one argument for this is that if you're using the code legitimately then you don't really have anything to worry about
I guess one argument for this is that if you're using the code legitimately then you don't really have anything to worry about
I don't think the actual tracking code itself is the problem here, rather it's that its existence is hidden away in a privacy statement. Because of that most people won't even have a chance to get the knowledge of them being tracked, since they probably don't understand any programming language nor read privacy terms (which is pretty understandable). That's why we get these little "we are using cookies to track experience enhancing data" messages on almost any website now. I don't think tracking is a wrong thing (I'm even doing it my scripts) but you should be very open and courteous about it. That gives anyone a fair chance to opt out, if they don't want to get tracked for whatever reason (they don't even need one imo).
Public OR Private, it doesn't matter. If they're running code they don't have legal/licensed access to, then they shouldn't be running it, end of. This very shortly turned into an argument about leakers, from statistics tracking. Stats tracking ISN'T just for checking leakers you know, it has beneficial advantages for developers as they can see where/how/what situation their code is running in, and better it for the mass.
This discussion has nothing to do with leaked scripts or leakers. It has to do with tracking codes being in our downloads off coderhire and not being informed about it.
Sending chatlogs .. ect is what I call spyware. Sending the rcon password .. ect is a trojan horse (aka 'backdoor') Sending the servers IP to check .. is called "DRM" .. and I don't see why you should argue .. its 100% up to the author. [lua]http.Fetch( "www.myfreakingserver.com?ID="..GetConVarString("ip"), function(body, len, headers, code) if code == "false" then print("[Error]: Too many virgins on this server.") <Crash script here ...> else print("Have a nice day :)") end end, function() -- No callback .. must be singleplayer or something end )[/lua]
This can be bypassed in so many ways.
http.Post = function(url) print("no, fuck you, \""..tostring(url).."\""); end
now stop complaining or gtfo inb4 ban for image macro -.-' (User was banned for this post ("inb4 ban" - SteveUK)) (User was banned for this post ("extended, ban evading" - postal))
This can be bypassed in so many ways. Look, check the code you download instead of just sticking it on your server. Statistics are CLEARLY dictated inside one lua file, normally called stats_num.lua, this is displayed this way so you CAN delete if it you want to. However, it's up to the developer whether he wants this included or not. It's up to the purchaser, consumer, to modify/delete this file if they do not ethically agree, or otherwise don't want to be involved. It all depends on your view, you can be uppity and arrogant about it, but it won't change the fact that they're included for more than one reason, which to be honest, is beneficial to you in the long run, as long as the developer takes note of this.
Your code wouldn't even work.
Yeah, I usually prematurely release my code with a lot of bugs. My fault.
...
Stop trying to start a whole script discussion and read what is being posted: "This is about piracy .. not how to bypass scripts." If you want to post about it .. do it somewhere else.
:words:
This seems like a good place to discuss coderhire related things. I think I should stay here.
This seems like a good place to discuss coderhire related things. I think I should stay here.
This isn't related to Coderhire though, it's immaturity.
It feels like the license (where you can and cannot use purchased scripts) could be explained better on the site.
This seems like a good place to discuss coderhire related things. I think I should stay here.
You sure?
[img_thumb]http://bit.ly/1dSY8yq[/img_thumb]
Why bother with overriding http.Post if you could just remove the snippet? Also, there are countless ways to come around your bypass.
You sure? Why bother with overriding http.Post if you could just remove the snippet? Also, there are countless ways to come around your bypass.
That picture really means nothing. It just proves that people on facepunch think they know everything but they really don't. I bypassed all but two anticheats i have ever come across. I gave the people who are complaining a way to automatically get rid of all the snippets without touching the files, what's wrong with that? Just an easier way to do it. Even if people worked around the bypass, you could easily fix it, especially on the server side lua state.
I got back from the party and the drama about tracker still continues? Jeez. Think how much you could do during the time you were complaining.
I got back from the party and the drama about tracker still continues? Jeez. Think how much you could do during the time you were complaining.
Was it fun?
Was it fun?
It's a coderhire thread, I am not going to get it more off the topic than it is.
It's a coderhire thread, I am not going to get it more off the topic than it is.
Everyone knows all the other CoderHire threads went way off topic.
Would be cool to see bug reporting on coder hire so comments on scripts aren't 'bugs'. And I use the word 'bugs' with much disdain.
Comments start to drive me crazy Shouldn't it auto subscribe to comment notifications whenever you post a script? Besides that whenever you subscribe, post a comment it automatically unsubscribes Am I the only one experiencing this?

Ah right my bad, sorry. Is it possible to have a separate option that toggles between notifications from your own scripts and others? [editline]20th December 2013[/editline] Also can you please make it so people whom you added manually ( not everyone have automatic payments working ) can leave a review?

Because then people might add friends and ask for reviews.
And we're down.
Anyone else getting customers basically trying to "blackmail" by leaving bad reviews over almost nothing and then expecting you to help them before they remove it? It's just ridiculous when someone leaves me a Steam message while I'm asleep and then leaves a bad review without even attempting to use any other kind of communication, like maybe I don't know... using the PM system on CoderHire the website where they bought the script in the first place? Or even messaging me when my Steam isn't set to snooze.

I think I've only had about 60 sales and 13 reviews so maybe I just haven't been in the game long enough.
wow my script is selling like hotcakes
wow my script is selling like hotcakes
Eventually your hotcakes will sell out, and only every so often afterwards a hobo will come along and buy it. Although, the hotcakes business usually last for quite some time.
