So technically, if I was to make my own model for such, it would be fine? I was not under the impression that unlicensed software requires such an exclusive permission.
Compensate the affected people (in any way they find appropriate, I will not be involved in this) who's work you used without permission and then yes, once they've confirmed they're happy.
Okay.
Not really a report, but I just thought I'd post this.. just for laughter:

Too bad. Calling my house will get you nothing but reported to the police, please don't do it again.
bug fixes aren't really something that should be sold.
His addon wasn't a bug fix.
Was a simple gui to display all E2s with information such as OPS and CPU time along with the ability to view the code of an e2 if the admin found them suspicious.
Or you telling me coderhire doesn't sell simple cheap admin utilities that only takes a short time to create?

Well all attempts at contacting you failed. You run a business, I was trying to get in contact with you. Nothing more.
[editline]17th February 2014[/editline]
Since you won't add me on steam Jaanus, i'll take it as you're not bothered.
Is it not part of PayPal terms for a business account to provide a valid working phone number?
...Yes it is, hence why I tried to get in contact with him? Uhh, I don't understand what you just said, sounds like you read my post wrong lol.
Is it not part of PayPal terms for a business account to provide a valid working phone number?
Nope. Just confirmed with paypal.
Nope. Just confirmed with paypal.
Then I suggest you remove it before some 12yr olds get hold of your home number. And read my previous post please.
They're models that are openly available on garrysmod.org. I fail to see why such a huge fucking deal is being made out of it. He's not selling the models; he's selling the script.
Seriously, if the models are such a big deal then tell him to take them out of the addon. He can link to garrysmod.org so customers can get them for free.
Bad business going on in here.

I'd be completely up for that if this was the first time he'd done it, but it isn't.

You already did so it's to late. Second of all just get over it, you think there aren't people that regret they got banned on coderhire but they can't do anything.
Just do what everyone else is most likely doing, create a new account, buy gmod, wait 6 months and login back or ask someone to do it (You have a chance to get him banned as well :D)
I feel like you're ignoring the fact that he wasn't benefiting from the models since they're public domain in the first place, and instead are just justifying blind-siding him with "he's done it before".
Let me tell you, from experience, that shit like this coming out of left field feels really shitty.
Everyone else can follow the rules, so why not him? I aren't blind-siding him - I specifically responded to him with why he's banned and what he can do to make amends with the content author who's work he WAS profiting from (no credit to the author, author specifically did not want him to use or sell them (he was selling them, he was taking money for a digital product which included them, regardless of them being free or public domain elsewhere)).
So while we're preventing a coder from packing in unlicensed models for convenience should we send a DMCA to Garry for having them on garrysmod.org?
Honestly you're sympathizing with the wrong party. Hurr durr I made him a model and he's not using it like I want him to. Shucks on me for not licensing it and making him pay but can you remove it plspls.
Please. I made an entire community and the other person isn't using it like I want him to. This shit is first grade immature shit.
I'm enforcing the site rules, nothing more.
This might have nothing to do with this situation but in my head right now it has.
The guy who made "Flappy Bird" he was making tons of money and because he used the tubes from Mario he was getting sued but he decided to remove it. Do you think he knew he wasn't allowed to use them without their permission ?
He said nothing about being sued. He said it had nothing to do with legal issues, and that the success was just ruining his life.

You don't seem to understand the fact that some authors give their work out for free in exchange that other people using them credit their work while also providing the content for free.
Its as simple as that.
Using your logic I could just pack up TF2's content and give it for free because TF2 is essentialy free.
You don't seem to understand the fact that some authors give their work out for free in exchange that other people using them credit their work while also providing the content for free.
It doesn't even go as far as that. When no license is provided you can't redistribute the thing at all. You always need explicit permission for that.
Then proceeding to sell it just beyond belief for me. It's really a sad audacity from Phoenix to do such a thing.
I feel like you're ignoring the fact that he wasn't benefiting from the models since they're public domain in the first place, and instead are just justifying blind-siding him with "he's done it before".

I'm not sure why this has so many agrees, but I'd like to point out that none of the models in question seem to have been public domain, and abiding by the law isn't something that came out of left field. Something being available free of charge to the public is completely different from something being in the public domain.
You know, I really don't want to turn this into a pointless argument, I merely wanted to state what I believed, if I was wrong, I was wrong.
author specifically did not want him to use or sell them (he was selling them, he was taking money for a digital product which included them, regardless of them being free or public domain elsewhere)).
You realise that in the pastebin, we were arguing about models that he created for me, hosted on my community from two years ago, I don't see what this has to do with a free model packed from gmod.org, which if it means anything, you can see i'm making my own.

You're taking this all wrong. It doesn't go by the rule 'He doesn't respond so it means he doesn't care thus I have unofficial approval to use it.", it goes by 'He doesn't respond so it means I don't have approval thus I can't use it.".
If he never responds, its unfortunate but you won't be able to use his stuff. I then suggest remaking your own models.

Ok maybe you are right. But another example is a free game engine(CryEngine or Unity).
You can use it to sell/give games for free. But when you sell the games you have to buy the engine(Unity case) and if you want to sell a game made with CryEngine you have to buy a licence which is not free.
He was selling someone's models, he should've ask for copyright permission.

Nobody cares that you are making your own, you should have make your own and then sell it not the other way around.
You should know that anything that you did not make you have no right to distribute it without the author permission.
And about the thing that he doesn't accept your invitation it means that he has nothing to say to you.
Do you think anyone that adds me on steam gets accepted ? (Actually I don't accept anyone who I don't know and I don't want to know :D)

If that's the case, you're not very good at supporting your customers/clients who purchase your addons... imho, the comments (before the tickets, which aren't instant chat), don't cut the mustard when it comes to supporting people, they need some sort of realtime chat. I'm not flaming you, before you reply, i'm sorry if I hurt your feelings, but the way you said that was completely counter-intuitive.
Adam has already stated his compromise, therefore there's no need for you to keep on about it.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
