You can play with it and use it on any server right now, you don't have to wait for anything. Just make sure to enable it before playing.
I will wait for the option in video settings "multicore rendering" to work. :)
I've been living off the prerelease branch and I haven't found any problems yet. Though I don't turn on multicore stuff every time I do something.
I just threw those cvars into my autoexec.cfg. So far no issues on my end either, except for that one printing one I reported.
It's just me, or html.Fetch won't update when page updates, i mean, does this uses cache or something like Awesomium? But when i open html editor, this seems to download the last version, not the actual one...And randomly after several http.Fetch this gets the actual versions, i'm testing inside webbrowser and my website works good I think that i suck at explaining...So I did a video [vid]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/251205348/ShareX/2016/06/2016-06-21_00-41-44.mp4[/vid] [sp]This is fault of steam right? I heard somewhere http functions comes from ISteamHTTP[/sp]
Been testing multi-core since Rubat made that post recently. One issue so far is that printing to console is wonky, here is an example I'm using StonedPengiun's plib in this picture which is why the printing looks like the way it does. Normally it should be formatted like this though [lua]{ [1] = 1, [2] = 2, [3] = 3, [4] { [1] = 4, [2] = 5, [3] = 6, }, }[/lua] The code for the printing is here.
Should be fixed in the pre-release/dev branches. As a little side effect, any binary modules that are changing the spew output handler (like gm_spew) will receive _all_ the debug spews in the main thread now.
https://github.com/Facepunch/garrysmod-issues/issues/2422 ?
I'm going to assume you somehow managed to have queued rendering enabled when you encountered this, so yes. Nothing else would make sense.
:snip:
http.Post ignores cache. (As far as I am aware.) So if you really want to ignore cache use:
http.Post("http://google.com", { a = "a" }, fn, fn)
There are more options but in my opinion this one is the best.
Not even a solution. GET and POST requests are different.
Ok you are right sorry.
25 new backgrounds were just added to the dev branch. I'm going to go ahead and bump this issue once again, because we're seeing the negative effects of having such an out of date web framework in GMod once again. Myself and other Cinema server owners that have been using the Deprecated JavaScript API for YouTube since its deprecation announcement on January 27th, 2015 as a way to get around not having any video quality above 360p being available with YouTube's IFrame API (aka HTML5 player) in Awesomium, in an effort to provide the best video experience in our servers. Starting last week or so, we began getting reports of players not being able to view YouTube videos in our servers. For the affected players, the video player infinitely buffers or simply shows up as black. For these players, the usual fix of Updating/Installing Flash Player for NPAPI has not been working. We currently have two theories as to why this is happening, both of which would not be issues if Awesomium had been replaced with Chromium Embedded Framework by now. Theory 1 YouTube has been doing something in the backend recently that would be considered "breaking" API changes for the old JavaScript API Player. But they don't care, because their Deprecation Policy says they only have to support a Deprecated API for up to 1 year after the deprecation announcement is made. It has now been 6 months over the date they had to support it until. Theory 2 Something is wrong with Flash Player, YouTube broke support with it, or a bunch of players are still running older versions of it that are now blocked from running in some way since Flash Player is a security disaster. And considering that just 3 days ago it got patched for 36(!) Security Vulnerabilities, frankly, it could be any one of those 3 scenarios and I wouldn't blame anybody for running as fast as they can away from it. Now, since some of our players can't watch YouTube videos in our Cinema servers at all regardless of what's causing it, we're forced to move back to YouTube's IFrame API Player or lose about 28% (about 70% of YukiTheater's videos are played from YouTube, about 40% of YukiTheater's player population has been having issues with playing them in one form or another) of our player population if we don't. I have warned against this exact thing happening in my many many many posts about it before. Forcing players to watch videos at a maximum resolution of 360p, which may or may not have a 3D effect glitch on top of that, is not an enjoyable experience for patrons of Cinema servers. On top of that, the fact that Awesomium is so old makes us more vulnerable to security risks, have to deal with more bugs, and just doesn't have nearly as much support as a Modern Web Browser does. Hacky CSS workarounds and lack of support for many new JavaScript functions should not be things that GMod Developers have to take into account when designing a web application to work inside of Garry's Mod. In fact, a week ago I discovered that doing a Synchronous XMLHttpRequest in Awesomium can make Garry's Mod flat out crash. Not only Awesomium's process, GMod's process and any of its children. "You shouldn't be doing a Synchronous AJAX request," I hear you say. The fact is, it's still a bug, even if that bug is caused by doing something that isn't best practice (but supposed to be supported). As of June 22nd, it will have been 6 months since Willox first showed progress with implementing Chromium Embedded Framework to replace Awesomium, and it's been almost 1 year since we starting talking about replacing it. And you know what? I don't even care if it can support H.264 out of the box when it comes. It would be extremely nice to have that, but frankly, having CEF at all at this point would be infinitely better than Awesomium. The H.264 codec (implemented using Cisco's alternatives or other means) can be added later, and CEF has WebM VP9 support which means that we could play HD Videos in the YouTube IFrame API Player even without H.264 support. It's a win in every way to have Awesomium replaced with CEF. And please don't get me wrong. I'm extremely grateful that Multicore Rendering is coming to GMod as that's going to help with performance a lot and I've been on the Prerelease Branch testing it for the last couple of weeks to see if I can spot any bugs with it. But personally, my vote is for CEF replacing Awesomium being the next thing that's done to GMod, if at all possible. So what do you say, Devs?
dats some gucci pics right there son
thank god none of those tacticool poses got into the new backgrounds, really happy with the selection.
pictures
o m g Nearly all of those are godlike, especially the one in the desert; the sand is fantastic looking. The one with the airboats is also quite pretty. Makes me sad I'm not better at SFM
Personally for Cinema I've found Tower Unite to handle it really well, excluding the lack of voteskip (that'll come soon I hope).
Just a note, Tower Unite switched from Chromium Embedded Framework to the ISteamHTMLSurface API as of June 8th. The reason they cited was MP3/H.264 support, because apparently ISteamHTMLSurface supports those proprietary codecs. It probably wouldn't be a good fit for GMod though because of certain restrictions on that API, including the lack of a way to create JavaScript bridges, no DevTools, etc.
Winterphoenix96 is right. I also run a popular cinema server and I see Awesomium being an outdated piece of crap destroying our gamemode. Not only is YouTube support dying, but we have to struggle with it's lack of support for modern standards all the time. For example, when I wanted to add a file-link video player, I got everything working nice in Chrome, then tried it in GMOD to realize that Awesomium doesn't support HTTP video streaming at all. Ended up having to make an RTMP service play to a Flash-based JWPlayer just to get it to work as desired. Even if you say "Cinema isn't a big deal" (which isn't true - my server is in the top 5 on gametracker and Winter's server would be up there with us if he enabled server ranking), this issue affects pretty much all of GMOD. For example, PlayX players in DarkRP or sandbox servers are also getting screwed over by this. Any use of a web browser is getting screwed over, because what kind of web browser doesn't support YouTube? Come on. GMOD may be built on an old game engine, but I think that it is still an excellent platform for creating and sharing content. The fact that it is built on an old engine makes it even better, because it runs nice on non-gayming PCs and less detail is expected in custom models and whatnot. GMOD will be popular for many years to come, but it needs to be updated to support modern standards! Please replace Awesomium ASAP!
The reason I keep seeing for CEF not being used is "it doesn't support 32bit Mac applications"
Who the hell cares? Apple stopped making 32 bit computers like 10 years ago. Edit: Now that I think about it, I don't think Macs support the Flash player for Awesomium at all. So yeah.
The reason I keep seeing for CEF not being used is "it doesn't support 32bit Mac applications". But that's not quite true. CEF ends support of 32bit Mac applications with a version using Chromium 41 so why not use that? It's better than Chromium 18. Sure Chromium 41 hasn't been supported since April 2015 but Chromium 18 hasn't been supported since May 2012...
You also could use a 64bit helper application to render the browser and pass it to gmod like how the memory cache helper works with ENB series modification for a whole slew of games. also:
Who the hell cares? Apple stopped making 32 bit computers like 10 years ago.
Praise to the willox of mcore fame. May our lord, dev and savior come to save us again, banish awesomium and bringeth thy CEF to the light. The world needs you again.
Imo you cant force devs to bring you cef asap, even if its alot better than awesomium it will require time and it will not happen fast, and then they also have other issues which may need fixes.
Who the hell cares? Apple stopped making 32 bit computers like 10 years ago.
Gmod is a 32 bits application. Cef just wouldn't work on osx, even 64 bits osx.
25 new backgrounds were just added to the dev branch
I like how none of them were made in gmod
Gmod is a 32 bits application. Cef just wouldn't work on osx, even 64 bits osx.
Keep Awesomium on OSX? You can build OS specific binaries.
Imo you cant force devs to bring you cef asap, even if its alot better than awesomium it will require time and it will not happen fast, and then they also have other issues which may need fixes.
And it's the same situation with Multicore, yet here we are. And I'm okay with it not happening necessarily fast, so long as the slow route doesn't take 6 months, which it honestly just shouldn't if you're moving at any remotely decent pace.
I like how none of them were made in gmod
[t]https://img5.picload.org/image/rgodoapi/common.jpg[/t] [t]https://img5.picload.org/image/rgowioco/nocolorcorrection.jpg[/t] All through just combining different light passes together in post. I knew this was going to happen, I posted about this a month ago and last year as well. Nobody believed me and everyone disagreed with me. But here we are again not being able to update the game to use multicore and CEF because of OSX.

In fact it isn't even on hold anymore. Literally CEF is the only thing that's been an issue AFAIK.
And here we are again telling you that multicore is not on hold due to OS X. In fact it isn't even on hold anymore. Literally CEF is the only thing that's been an issue AFAIK.
Back when GMod 13 first got released, I remember Garry said multicore isn't going to be added mostly because of OSX and few bugs that also existed on Windows which he could have fixed if he wanted to, just like the current devs are doing right now. But due to the major bugs it had with OSX, it got delayed years until finally just recently they fixed most of the issues. So it doesn't matter if it was a thing of the past, it still took away a major performance boost from the game for years.
I like how none of them were made in gmod
They were all made in gmod. So...for those of you that don't know yet, Garry himself just walked into the Issue on GitHub for Replacing Awesomium, said "this ain't gonna happen," and then closed the issue. I, for one, am extremely disappointed. Especially since Willox had already made some progress with replacing it and frankly, since I don't think Garry fully grasps how bad the situation is and why we need a replacement for Awesomium so badly. RIP Cinema, PlayX, and literally anything that requires a web browser newer than something from 2012. Unbelievable.
