Will the prize pool be split (unevenly) among first and second place winners?
I was actually wondering this as well. That being said, the prize money should be an incentive to make gmod great again, not a point of contention. I'd actually appreciate a loose judging system with a single number and comments from each judge as opposed to some strict categorical system.
If you can post a link to the source of that info that would be cool.
Literally just four lines under the bit in the forum post where you were reading the prize pool.
Also if you do the math, It's still closer to 1.6k than 2k. It would have to be 1,835 or higher to be closer to 2k.
:speechless: I guess I'm explaining this.. The average of 1 600 and 2 000 is 1 800. By the definition of an average, increasing or decreasing from its value would make the new value closer to one or the other. How in the world did you get 1 835?
Alright, so sorry about not being on to respond for a bit. I had some trouble with returning something to Best Buy. http://www.gmodgc.com/sponsors/ Is where you can see the listing of our current sponsors, as well as the prize pool total. I haven't updated the OP in a bit since I've been busy, but I should touch it up. In regards to how we're going to base judging, my main goal was to have each judge rate the gamemode on a scale of 1-100. They'll post comments as well to why they scored it as such. Primarily, we're going to be looking at how the theme is incorporated into the gamemode, whether or not it has any Lua errors, and how enjoyable the gamemode is/how well it flows together. We heavily encourage the developer to join us in play-testing, and in the Discord so we can talk with them about their gamemode. This helps us get some insight on how the developer was thinking at different stages.

What about the prize pool though? Will it be split, and how much?
This was my outline for the prize divvying. 1st | 60% 2nd | 30% 3rd | 10% I was even going to look at giving follow up rewards, although those I haven't decided upon yet. It would take away from the total prize pool though.

Not a whole lot, but then again it encourages people not to drop out do to power group competitors. Maybeeee.. 1st | 55% -$1,003 2nd | 23% -$419 3rd | 9% -$164 -- 4rth| 4% -$72 5th | 3% -$54 6th | 3% -$54 7th | 2% -$36 Considering the top three will be 3 person teams, they will all get $55 or more.
Maybeeee.. 1st | 55% -$1,003 2nd | 23% -$419 3rd | 9% -$164 -- 4rth| 4% -$72 5th | 3% -$54 6th | 3% -$54 7th | 2% -$36 Considering the top three will be 3 person teams, they will all get $55 or more.
This is a great idea honestly, it would promote more participation. If not to the 7th rank, at least extend to the 5th!
By the way I'm not competing anyways so this has no influence on me. I just honestly think, for such a large prize pool, it's fair. Especially considering this competition was with the intent to bring more content to gmod.

You're a team of 3. Period. If a 1 person team works as hard as 3 people in the span of a month, they deserved that $1,000. If you do the math, with the stretched out winners, it's hardly a change from 1st-3rd anyways.
First Place: 60% $1093 55% $1003
Is that extra $90 really THAT big of a deal after winning over $1000? Espcecially considering that extra $90 goes toward guaranteeing four more people will enter a gamemode(4th-7th).
Not everyone needs some insignificant feel good reward. Work hard get rewarded big. That's how it should be.

Splitting the pool is half the reason I'm not on a team. That said, I like the idea of small prizes for runners-up. I'd happily sacrifice 8 percent of my winnings to give to 4th, 5th, 6th if I got first place.

Why disagree with me though? You are willing to give up 8%, but disagree with a 1st-7th splittings where 1st only gives up 5%? lol

I'm fine with having runner up categories, but I am against having a 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th. etc reward. If they didn't make top 3, then we shouldn't take away from those that won just because they scored a few less points. I'm fine though with giving small rewards to the categories. When I state runner up categories, I mean like "Most innovative" for example. Look a few comps back when Bitches made that melon boss gamemode, that was REALLY neat, but it didn't even get a nod. That would fall into that.
How exactly does a human make that sound by accident?
She saw something gross in her biology textbook.
Just a heads up in case anyone wants to warm up before coding each day - Advent of Code is going! They're just small puzzles that you get to figure out, and will get your brain juices going.
She saw something gross in her biology textbook.
In the first second I thought that was the sound the NPCs made when they died, very nice.
Can we use this thread as a WAYWO for this competition or should we keep that elsewhere?
Can we use this thread as a WAYWO for this competition or should we keep that elsewhere?
Up to you, completely fine to do it here.

Wow...How
Wow...How

for i = 1, 999999 do local water = ents.Create( 'water' ) water:SetPos( Vector( 0, 0, i ) ) water:Spawn() end
Jokes on you, construct 0,0,0 origin is at 192 units from ground
Wow...How
I'm guessing fog, 0 gravity, an anim hook, and a move hook. EDIT: Oh and an overlay for the water blur. How close am I? :)
Great, people post their progress videos with the same idea as me and I have to now restart due to the loads of people who will accuse me of copying.
