Summer would be better. Can I help hosting???
If we do another in the summer I'll probably be able to contribute money or servers since I'll be able to work. I don't think I'll be interested in judging again.
I'm wildly impressed with everyone's submissions. All of you guys did awesome. I wish I had anything more to give you than my words.
to be honest i don't understand how aritz got so many points on an unfinished, broken, default sandbox gamemode... no offense.
It really didn't even have the theme implemented into it...
Was fun until getting triggered by the misinformation on the original assassins creed multiplayer
If people are interested in having another one, would summer be a better time? Same amount of time, perhaps?

Best time = when most ppl are on? https://steamdb.info/app/4000/graphs/
Do you think the theme was too restrictive, maybe should have gone without one?
Me being too dumb to think of a gamemode fitting the theme =/= theme being too restrictive. But yes i'd like to see what happens without a theme.

That's why he got pinged down so many points. I personally had a lot of fun and think it was an awesome gamemode with a lot of potential, but we had a few problems and it didn't really incorporate the theme at all. The point totals agree with you there, so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

Congratulations to all other participants, and thanks to the hosts and sponsors for hosting this! :D
Congratulations to all the participants, I honestly had such a great time not only trying out the exciting gamemodes, but also getting to know the community better. Since the judges were discussing their points at 2am, in my time zone, I’ll just briefly put some words here instead
Competition & Host
I felt most things ran smoothly, however I think the judging server should have been setup well in advance of the judging day. The server was still being configured minutes before the judging was scheduled to start which led to a bit of a rush.
Similarly, the livestream was particularly rough in that it took us a while to get it working correctly.
Overall however, Nook done a fantastic job as a host and I’d love to see him return as a host for other competitions.
Quality Control
I completely understand that some gamemodes were ‘unfinished’ however, I still think that they should have been submitted in an at least playable state. If I recall correctly, we spent a long time on the ‘Infestation’ gamemode which wasn’t even playable during the first time we played it.
Judging
As a result of having multiple judges, I really felt that every gamemode had a fair chance to impress. Some of us liked and disliked many different aspects of every gamemode, which lead to really interesting debates and discussions not only between the judges but also the authors and community.
However, I completely disagree that the results should have been given on the night of the judging. As mentioned on the livestream, one area we were looking at was ‘Back-end’. The description given for this was ‘Errors, exploits, et cetera’. It was very hard to look over code for exploits and other back-end things while we were supposed to be playing them. I would have liked for the results to be released the next day as it would have allowed the judges, in every time zone, more time to discuss and conclude our marks.
I’m unsure if the marking sheet the judges used were made public, but either way we should be transparent. Another area we looked at, as mentioned on the livestream, was ‘Theme’. However, the marks given by the judges for this area were multiplied by 3.5x by the sheet system. As a result some very good gamemodes were heavily pushed down. I honestly believe that Microcosm would have done considerably better, if not won, if the multiplier was not so extreme.
Infestation
Despite other judges really pushing it away, to be fair I did at first, I felt this was actually really nice to see. Sure, the gamemode was pretty barebones, but it was refreshing to see a new face in the community. This competition was about encouraging people to get creative and I felt it succeeded.
In terms of improving, I’d like to see some custom fonts rather than Arial as well as some more subtle colours on the HUD. I would also enjoy the gamemode more if you utilised the map more, for example only allowing zombies to use the vents.
Sacrifun
Some real thought really went into this gamemode. I really enjoyed the many different ‘abilities’ each team had, some them I had never seen in other gamemodes before. The gamemode was visually impressive but did lack some sort of replay-ability for me. There was also some issues with windows being unable to be broken as well as the taunts having no cooldowns.
Assassins
I really enjoyed the experience of this gamemode. When you first start playing, you’re instantly taken back by the scale of it. The amount of fairly complex AI’s on the map really went down well with me. I also enjoyed the many smaller features such as the grappling hook and the ability to blend in with the AI.
EDIT: My only suggestion turned out to be a misunderstanding on my behalf
Chestburster
I was really put off with the lack of scoreboard, overhead player names and the lack of explanation of what exactly ‘gold’ was. However, this gamemode actually turned out to be really enjoyable. I loved the knockback that the fists have, along with the chests that try and kill you. My only suggestions would be to look into pressing ‘R’ causing players to irreversibly drop their weapons. There was also the problem with a missing model on the RPG. Finally, I personally don’t think every weapon should have unlimited ammo. This lead to Nook stomping everyone when he managed to get the magic crowbar.
gm_acceleration
Honestly really wanted to enjoy this gamemode, it felt like it had such potential and genuinely something I would play regularly outside of the competition. However, I felt like I couldn’t look past the many issues plaguing the gamemode. I think that you probably saw every issue we were having during the livestream and so I won’t point them out again here.
Microcosm
A complete let down, but not in the way I expected. The gamemode was absolutely fantastic, the most fun I’ve had on Garry’s Mod for a long time. Really enjoyed the micro aspect of it, as well as the vast array of different features. I felt the judges on my ship also had a good time as we were constantly laughing and enjoying ourselves. What tainted the gamemode was unfortunately your attitude. You kept pushing this really confusing and awkward ‘gimmick’ aspect to the gamemode which another judge and I found particularly odd. I felt like you had no pride in your gamemode which honestly was an awful shame. The disrespectful and irrelevant DarkRP jabs just really was unneeded. I don’t want to pick a favourite, but if you had spent the time implementing gimmicks instead on implementing the theme, you would have won.
Conclusion
This competition was so much fun, I would love to judge again in the future if the community would approve. It was nice to interact with everyone in ways other than on the forum!
As promised I'll be giving 50 dollars of my winnings to 4th and 5th place (I think parakeet said to keep it so 5th and 6th if that was true). Just send me your PayPal email in a PM and I'll get it to you <3
Was watching the stream for the majority of the judging. Was pretty fun to watch and comment to. I liked the way the judges judged the competition and would recommend it for the summer!
I'd gladly participate and submit nothing again if there was another competition in summer :D

Do you have any tips on optimizing the NextBot? Do SetLOD and SetIK help? Not sure if this is a stupid question but is there any way to prevent it from being rendered behind walls?
I do ask that if there is a another one that you have a more generalised theme (or that you remove the theme all together) as this was the only reason I did not participate.

SetLOD does not help. SetIK helps IMMENSELY.
And rendering behind walls all comes down to the map's visleaf optimization. A well-optimized map won't have that problem. :)

Thanks, but I cant accept it. I donated $50 to the competition myself. I thought I could either win, or some other person would get it for creating something cool. Besides, I wouldn't feel right if I took my money back if all I submitted was something that was only a concept at this point. So, keep the money! You've earned it.
I think it would be a pretty cool idea if there was a server for each of the gamemodes that were submitted so people can play them after the judging.
Also congrats to the winners!
I have always thought this was a good idea, either a server for each, or a server on a fixed rotation through them.
As for the theme restrictions. I do see that you can do so much with it, but I found personally, the ideas i had didn't really have a way of being made to fit in the theme, so to me it was too restrictive. I'd prefer to see a few twists or something. EG a couple of years ago, it was melons. (Really this just adds to the fun, as something like melons can be thrown in with almost anything)
I'd definitely like to know if another competition is coming up. Can I suggest a page on the website where people can submit, so they get alerted when something is happening, because I've missed info in the past. I'm sure this would help capture more interested people.
If people are interested in me hosting one come summer, I can easily take what I've learned from this one and apply it to the next one.
Website would be completely redone and ready by the time the second one would roll around, and I'd have things more fleshed out.
