What about the use of a weapon system. I know using this could be a bit too far but who really has the time to create a gamemode and create a custom weapon system. Take ttt for example it uses CSS weapons (by default with it's own base i guess just realized), darkrp uses whatever weapons you add, etc... tl;dr that's pretty much all im trying to verify is if it's allowed to use weapon systems like TFA
I think StonedPenguin post would still stand as I would just want to use PAC3 for making world model weapons as no one has time to model.
That's flat out using someone elses addon not a library. Using preexisting models is one thing but addons is too far imo.
What about your beloved plib or pON? [editline]13th October 2016[/editline] Or the SWEP Construction Kit
imo there shouldn't be any themes or start date. You're literally just hurting the possibilities of what could happen, especially if you want "The next TTT". Even more supported because TTT probably wouldn't have come around if the fretta competition did have a theme (apart from using the fretta shit)
Generally the reason contests like these (and Game Jams) have themes is so you can't take projects you've been previously working on for x time and say 'yeah I did this in a month' Some limitations should be imposed so people do have to create something new and aren't secretly given an unfair advantage
Dimitri and me we'll join to this contest, As The not big server men's
The big server men gods will be judging your team and rig the contest so you guys will win. Conspiracy confirmed.
This is classic. I love this idea here.. In some way, I think it opens a lot of doors for `solo` developers who want to prove their worth. It would allow everyone contribute to Garry's Mod, in a style that is both incentive and promoting. Best of luck, to those who wish to enter. ... I'd enter myself however I switched from GLUA to C++ a long time ago.
I'd love to apply to judge. If you want, you can hmu on steam to ask more. Just search for "Shigbeard | Main". Should be 110% available because I have no life. Just to clarify, I'm being serious... I would like to judge.
What about your beloved plib or pON?
So far we haven't even decided to compete so I fail to see the point you're trying to make, however, the rule states this:
► No using existing libraries and code snippets that are not your own.
I feel like SweetTea has not been that sweet lately
I feel like SweetTea has not been that sweet lately
Just report him instead of paying attention to him. It's just a 24x24 cardboard box anyway, who gives a shit.
He is banned now anyway. Edit: What's the deal with one of the sponsors of this competition doing the same thing? Biased much?
Could we allow the use of publicly available 3rd party libraries? I mean the point of the competition is not to see who can come up with the coolest serialization lib, mysql wrapper or networking library. Using tools like PAC just speeds up development, doesn't really make sense to recreate existing stuff instead of adding new content to gmod. It could just be required to clearly list usage of 3rd party libs. The judges are obviously qualified enough to then exclude these parts from judging and focus on the gamemode and gameplay implementation instead. If someone forks DarkRP and submits an edit which is really really fun and new and amazing they can rate it good, if it's just DarkRP + 10 jobs judges will rate it shit anyway.

Stuff like MySQL libraries, vON/pON etc should be allowed. If I had to enter I'd want to focus on ganeplay and not shit like saving data etc.
Hey-o, judge here. We've decided on behalf of recent discussions regarding the use of public libraries and utilities that we will have a whitelist of what tools are allowed to use and whatnot. If you want a tool/utility/library to be added to the list send me, Nookyava or any of the other judges message on here, Steam or Discord and we'll take it into consideration. Can't wait to see all the cool new content that will come out of this competition, and good luck to everyone!
On the topic of library usage, you just have to ask this question to yourselves: Is this about creating new/creative content, or is this about proving whose coding skills are better?
I think that this rule should be changed:
No using existing libraries and code snippets that are not your own.
Into:
You may use libraries and code snippets that are not your own only if they are publicly released and/or open source.
Restricting competitors from using libraries and code snippets that are not their own will be detrimental to the overall quality, creativity, and originality of submissions.

Sounds like an extremely cool idea, but not very good timing for Australian/New Zealand students.
Sounds like an extremely cool idea, but not very good timing for Australian/New Zealand students.
What are you on about? It's mostly in the Holidays for our schools, and most exams finish late November as far as I'm aware, and then you've the entire of December while everyone's on holiday. Timing couldn't get much better IMO.

Updated the OP. Util/Mix-in libraries are now allowed, but must be ran by judges first. Teams are allowed, but three participants per team. Donators who donate over $100.00 cannot participate as well due to conflict of interest.
Well around my area, Most of them are completing by around the 24th, there's only a few other exams that are on. Either way, still pretty much gives you a month to work on it, and you can still think about it in the back of your mind.
Prize Pool is up to $1,675!
