Survival? Doesn't necessarily need to be open world zombie or single player jumpscare. Murder and Prop Hunt did great things for the GMod community.

I think RP gamemodes are inherently bad for this kind of competition, where judges will have a limited amount of time to test the gamemode and won't be able to appreciate the RP elements.

The theme was space in one of the last competitions. If it is again, I'd go on my annual try-to-clone-SS13 spree and end up hating my life again.

No, you should either enter as a participant or enter as a judge and that's it.

I know "conflict of interest" and "collusion" are scary phrases, but I'm not seeing exactly how those apply here.
Just to clarify, I have zero intention of joining a team.
Judging by my track record I think you guys need to be more worried if I do decide to enter.

Forgive me if this has already been touched on, but what about SNPC/Nextbot bases? would we have to make a new base for this or can we use one we've already made? On that note, I am to assume at least HL2 Npcs are fine?
Either way, I'd like to enter if possible. Hopefully I'll have a playable alpha ready for my current gamemode by the time the competition starts, so I'll take a break from that (Aside form bug fixes) and work on this for a bit. I'll probably end up taking parts of the gamemode I'm working on for this contest and re-purposing it in my other, much bigger gamemode, so I hope that's not a problem.

The contest will have a theme when released and no existing gamemodes it'll all be done from scratch until the deadline, with i believe a few exceptions for other things like maybe mysql modules or something.

Will there not be competition between the gamemodes? My worry is someone will feel betrayed or outdone by someone else/another group (maybe you got kicked from your group or another group somehow stole some content you were planning on using?) and instead of saying to themselves,
"I'll just give it my best anyway."
They'll instead drop out because they "don't have enough time" and instead be a judge and judge that other group's gamemode unfairly.
This may not happen. But there's a lot of immature people in the world and in this community. It just as easily could.

Sounds extremely interesting... I've actually already started working on my own gamemode. I doubt it will fit into whatever theme is chosen, though.
