Count me in, I'd like to try this
I still didn't get an answer:
As find me posted, it is your own personal choice. Whether you keep it top secret until the big reveal, or you post about it often - it's your decision. I understand some people may be interested in keeping their cool ideas private, and I respect that. If you only want to tell me, or tell the judges if you really want to tell how cool something is, that's always a possibility to. Also, to clear something up - you are not required to finish if you enter. This is an open competition, so join in, or drop at your leisure. If you want to wait until the theme is announced to join, feel free to. Come mid December and you had something pop up? Feel free to drop out. Still mid December and you just came up with an awesome idea? Feel free to enter! My entire goal is to create a very free and fun competition that breathes some new creativity into Garry's Mod. Hopefully you all will get to see that succeed.
Forgive me if this has already been touched on, but what about SNPC/Nextbot bases? would we have to make a new base for this or can we use one we've already made? On that note, I am to assume at least HL2 Npcs are fine? Either way, I'd like to enter if possible. Hopefully I'll have a playable alpha ready for my current gamemode by the time the competition starts, so I'll take a break from that (Aside form bug fixes) and work on this for a bit. I'll probably end up taking parts of the gamemode I'm working on for this contest and re-purposing it in my other, much bigger gamemode, so I hope that's not a problem.
Did anyone address this guy and that it has to be from scratch...
Did anyone address this guy and that it has to be from scratch...
I must have missed that post. If you feel like a base should be allowed, each specific one should be ran by the judges/myself first before using it. Obviously HL2 NPCs are part of the base game, and are fine. Hopefully he understands that it needs to be from scratch. If not, he should know by now.
Is using Lua extensins against the rules? Like a Lua like scripting language which compiles into Lua (it uses luaparse, it jus adds some new syntax things in Lua like +=, =>, classes and various other things)
Meepen joinned me and Stiffy360, thus forming the dream team.
Pretty certain those exist in Garry's Mod.
- snip, doesnt matter
I'm fairly certain you can convert your code into extension-independant version.. which is most likely ot be fine.
I'm fairly certain you can convert your code into extension-independant version.. which is most likely ot be fine.
Yes, it compiles into normal Lua but it can look REALLY weird when you're using classes due to how classes would work in Lua. This extension is basically a lot of ES6 features + Lua
I meant more along the lines of +=, for example since I know that operator does exist. I was distracted so I didn't read the entirety of your post. It all depends on how you end up implementing it.
Code is code. What difference does it make if you write it in moon script. What matters is that you don't use someone else's code to do the work for you. Nook can correct me if I'm wrong.

It all depends on how you end up implementing it.
How I'd do it is have 2 files under the gamemodes name like /gmname/lau/gamemode /gmname/gamemode (compiled Lua) The way it works is watching over 2 directories as its an app made with Node so you have it watch those 2 directories with
$ lauc watch ./lau ./gamemode
which will make it compile to Lua every time your LAU files have been changed. This just means that theres a source version which uses Lua with extended syntax (write less, do more) and then there's a functional lua version. [editline]22nd November 2016[/editline] Also Nook, +=, ++ etc doesnt exist in normal Lua
It's been awhile, but I remember seeing it used. I may just be tired though since I worked a 20 hour shift today. If it's easy to install, then I'd say go for it.
So this is the day?

Is there any commitment to taking part? I mean I would like to take part but if the theme is not up to my taste there no harm in dropping out right?

Nooky wants me to waste post space so he can post theme.
Thank you to everyone for being patient and waiting. I know it's been awhile since we mentioned it, but hopefully everyone is still as eager to work on their projects. The theme for this competition is... Things are not always as they appear. As of this moment you are free to work on your entries, and you have until the third of January to submit your projects. The entire day of the third will be used for submitting, and it will end at 12 AM Eastern. Just a reminder, our prize pool is currently $1,824.99! A big thank you to all of our sponsors who have made this possible. Please view the page to see who all helped out! http://gmodgc.com/sponsors/ If you have any questions, please privately message me on Steam, Facepunch, or Discord, post here, or post in the competition Discord.
The theme for this competition is... Things are not always as they appear.
Glad you ended up going with a vague theme after all.
Sites looking weird on mobile for me, havent zoomed out or anything. [t]http://i.imgur.com/O5TqE1c.png[/t]
The website was not developed for mobile in mind, so sorry for any inconveniences that may cause. Once I get an opportunity I plan on remedying that.
All I can think of with this theme is prop hunt :v:
