GranPC offered to host Garry's Mod's server browser two years back; wonder if that's still open. I personally emailed Valve about the conundrum and got a response saying it works fine in TF2 and there's nothing they could do to help. I'll continue pushing, but in the mean time, the redirect servers should either be tagged properly like the agreement stated or taken down.

IP2Location is also an issue which forces people to use "redirect" methods like this.
Valve aren't the only issue though. IP2Location is also an issue which forces people to use "redirect" methods like this.
They host the servers and force the region settings onto it. Don't know who else to talk to besides them directly.
And the main factor in this was because he was previously warned to stop doing
You mean Rubat blacklisted some random server name? I've never been formally warned by Rubat or Willox despite multiple attempts to contact them regarding the issue. They both have me on steam so they could contact me any time and I'd be more than willing to help. But at this point people will just keep using and finding new exploits (once the long list of them is exhausted that is) to create these mirrors until the issue is fixed. It's black and white. People are going to keep doing it until the geoip issue is fixed regardless of what people here think and regardless of what facepunch thinks. Fix the issue instead of being at constant odds with the side effects. I'm not replying to this issue again as to not stir shit like last time.
I hope that connect isn't blocked as a result of this. There's legitimate uses for that. The GMod tower comes to mind. So, Mr. Brain-Washed-by-EA-and-Ubisoft, if you don't stop your shenanigans, you may be forcing the devs to remove useful functionality just because of one selfish idiot.
The way I see these automatic redirects are against ones consent anyway. I am not saying connect should be removed altogether, but I am sure its functionality can be retained, while making it effectively useless for redirect only servers. Two ideas come to mind: - Block "connect" in the first 30 seconds after joining a server. This would not limit lobby servers, as players tend to spend at least that much time waiting for matchmaking, or just browsing the avalible servers. - Make connect pop up a message box informing the user that they are going to get redirected, and have them approve it. This could be implemented using native UI controls, so you could not force players to connect other servers.

I remember this exact thing was suggested in the GM13 beta and Garry never accepted nor denied it.
Why not fix the shitty serverlist and remove the horrendous gamemode sorting while at it.

Dont know why most of you care so much. It doesn't effect you when the going gets tough, the tough gets going.
You've just created another account to just point that...
You've just created another account to just point that...
It's a SUP member posting on his own accord, unfortunately
The dev branch's server list has more servers but it still only displays the top 128 according to whatever you're sorting by. I changed the server rank stuff a little too because my entire server list was pretty much gm_construct servers with 7ms latency and 1 player.

How does it get more servers?
I don't play the game much anymore, but if garry doesn't want to do it I would be OK with setting something up.
Garry will just say no as always, so thats out of the window too.
Guess I can't use any unicode filenames. The issue is that windows is stupid and uses UTF-16, isn't it? Fuck UTF-16, it only exists because of visual basic. fuck visual basic. fuck Microsoft.
The fundamental issue here is how shit the gmod menu is. Make changes there and people dont have a reason to make redirect servers. If thats not possible due to a limitation on valves end then start taking action against redirect servers who do not explicitly state they redirect people. case closed
If thats not possible due to a limitation on valves end then start taking action against redirect servers who do not explicitly state they redirect people.
Isn't that exactly what they were trying to do???

After looking at it myself and talking to him its pretty much fixed the geoip issue. Mirror servers will be useless for anything other than being malicious next update. Props to Willox for actually fixing long standing issues in this game.
Willox did you raise the amount of servers the browser shows or did you hide more empty ones?

Thank fuck, love you Willox. Can't wait to see SUP's player count drop

I like playing other gamemodes than ttt, rp, anything used a lot pretty much but it's hard when they're at the bottom of the list.
What does that have to do with mirror servers?
he said he'd make more servers show so I was generalizing it off of that
Thank fuck, love you Willox. Can't wait to see SUP's player count drop
Considering their population before the redirect servers I doubt not having them will affect shit.
All addons from workshop collection. Also, this is Linux if it makes any difference. [editline]20th November 2016[/editline] No srcds_cache in the root folder either. Permissions are good as well it looks like.
To bump the issue. I made a reinstall of the GMod dev branch, and it will fully(?) download the addon according to the console, but after it reaches 100% downloaded, it throws the 37 error.
Processing addon 1 - 'Assmod 2.4 Content'... Addon needs downloading... Downloading [ 200% of 1.6 KB ] Download Failed! Code: 37 WS: Finished!
