What people know != what people feel.
Everyone is just overly emotional and romantic about the idea that everything should be perfectly fair.
I don't think that it's even about fairness, to be honest with you. If somewhere were to release a public service with anycast based routing and penguin utilize it, they would still most likely get salty at penguin because he's penguin and they think that he went back on his word.
If somewhere were to release a public service with anycast based routing
We both know it's a case of when, not if. But yeah, you're probably right.
As stated, we are supposed to be adults, not children.
You of course setting the perfect example, calling "people" stupid, claiming them to be salty just to be salty, call this outrage childish, repeating some bullshit about some children's playground and consistent characterisation of this as "people crying".

Oh come on, you've been developing DarkRP long enough to know that some people aren't exactly the most intelligent people out there. Obviously, I'm not talking about you or anybody reputable but the people who have no idea what they're talking about who are just following the pack are the people who I am targeting here.
I think that we covered all the key points though. I do appreciate you being a proper adversary to debate with. We'll just agree to disagree. Keep up the good work with Fprofiler though, that shit saves my ass weekly.
I think the barrier between what's good or bad should be this: If the server browser doesn't show the real ping between the player and the final server, then it's wrong. Period. It doesn't matter if you are redirecting players, the packets or whatever the fuck. If you really don't need to fake the ping, then just host a normal server without fancy stuff, like most people do.
Also, I think there should be a different thread to discuss about this topic. This one is for gmod updates.

Then you should mark nearly all the servers on Garry's Mod as wrong since the pings are always off their real values as also with in-game too .
I agree that there should be a new thread but this conversation is over at this point. There is nothing else to discuss.

King has a full-time job outside of SUP.
I'm confused. Why is the server browser reporting two servers with different IPs?
Shouldn't there be just one server with one ip for all regions due to anycast?

If he is doing it properly then there should only be one server on the master server list. Blocking queries is useless if it's not on the master list.
I'll drop this in here:

So the main server isn't on the master server list, but something he calls "proxies" are. People end up playing on the master server. People can play on the master server through the proxy, but are automatically "reconnecting for a better connection" (as the second video shows).
So basically he made the redirect servers proxies of the master server? That looks like using a different implementation to just not fit the precise definition of a "redirect" server, so that he'd technically not be breaking the rule set by RB.
On Discord he said that he doesn't care about what people (here) think. He only cares about whether his shit's getting banned.
Also, about the promise he made back then to remove the redirect servers because they wouldn't be necessary anymore:
[t]http://i.imgur.com/bgfNq6A.png[/t]
To me this confirms that the opinions and arguments made by everyone who posted them here are disregarded. He only cares about what happens directly to his servers and truly nothing else. Apparently the only thing he did wrong was that he should have shut up instead of promising us that they weren't needed anymore and that he'd take them down.

So the only way he will learn is if his entire server network gets blacklisted, by the looks of things. Simple blacklist rule, matching anything with "SuperiorServers.co" in the name should be a catch-all ban for him.

You guys are beating a dead horse at this point. The last time I checked, I saw this:
Ignoring blacklisted server: ☯SupеriorServeгs.co - Clonewars @ 149.56.67.156:27015

Ain't beating a dead horse while he is still doing it.
The fact of the matter is he keeps setting up redirect servers, and actively attempting to bypass the blacklist. This is what got his servers banned in the first place, yet he keeps doing it.
This is why I think a catch-all blacklist rule against his community is necessary.

And this is why the redirects need to go, if his main server is blacklisted people are still going to be sent to it via the redirects.
I don't even know why you are posting here about it to be honest.
It is like you are the last person to walk into the party after everyone else has left and then expect to understand what was going on that night.
You are from the US and do not see them and can't seem to grasp at the fact why they are wrong.
The majority of people here have voiced out on this crap and it needs to stop.
THERE IS NO JUSTIFICATION FOR IT, period.

I know the context buddy. Knew about the issue for months. I'd rather not go into the details and explain why I choose not to expand my network to Australia.
Redirect servers are wrong, I will agree with that. The reason that I say that you're beating a dead horse is because everything that can be talked about has been talked about in terms of anycast. Redirect servers are a whole different ballpark. My objective here is to not debate the integrity and moral value of redirect servers. Everything I had to say about anycast routing has been said.

But they aren't a whole different ball park. Watch my video!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NF60efFBZns&feature=youtu.be
I join Server A, and get sent somewhere that isn't Server A. My ping is still not as advertised, and I'm still playing with people that aren't in my region at all.
No matter how you describe it or what words you use, you are still sending the player somewhere that he or she didn't ask to go. That's like getting in a taxi and asking to go to your local pizza store, and instead he takes you 3 or 4 towns over. Essentially the same store, but it isn't.
And even then, he has actively bypassed the blacklist. He's done it twice now! He shows no remorse, he has even stated his only regret was ever saying it was wrong in the first place. He won't learn until his community name is stricken from Garry's Mod as a whole, at which point he has to go to the trouble of rebranding, getting a new website, getting his old players back across, and if he does it again at that point then that's another of his communities gone.
It's a game of cat and mouse that cannot be stopped until StonedPenguin stops doing the wrong thing. But he won't because he doesn't see it as the wrong thing. He can't empathize with anyone who has a problem with it (or wont, which is probably the more applicable word)
Call it anycast, call it mirror servers, call it the queen of fucking england, it's still dishonest and it's still not allowed.

The only proper argument that I can understand is not playing with players in your region. The latency argument goes right out the window since Garry's Mod does not in any situation show proper latency in game (and in the server browser regardless of players) after 40-60 players. The more players you get, the worse it becomes.
I'm not here to defend anything that penguin has done in the past or the current in regards to mirror servers but for the anycast system, that I cannot bash on him for.
I completely understand your point of view and I partially agree with you only for if you wanted to play on servers that are in your region. My personal recommendation to you is to set your sv_region on your client if you truly want to play with people in the same country/region as you but that isn't exactly a proper solution I'd say for random players.
I feel for you, I really do but you're not really working with people here to make anything easier in terms of lowering latency and increasing reliability. I don't ever plan on expanding to AUS with my network anytime soon so you should be safe in terms of the issue you spoke of.
EDIT: Oh and by the way, status and net_Graph 4 latency is ALWAYS off.

Then I guess the only solution is to take the CSGO route and force people to register their servers to their account.
Looks like SuperiorServers are using OVH, cant Garry's Mod file a report through OVH saying they are bypassing thier ToS?
(http://www.garrysmod.com/terms/) - we reserve the right to require you to stop creating and distributing it if we think that’s necessary.
We (Facepunch Studios LTD) still own all of Garry’s Mod (duh).
I guess its in the ToS?
Update: Looks like its GMCHosting, not OVH.

Yeah, how about we also stop developing the Linux branch and impose an EULA stating that you can't sell any original content to make a profit :why:
