Hi Mapper, I'm Dad.
Hi Dad, I'm Disappointment.
Any Mappers available? My gamemode is nearly finished and it can use any map. That being said, a (simple) custom map would certainly add some icing to the cake.
Progress on the gamemode.
Alright, so more progress on my gamemode. A few new weapons were made, but then I more or less got the round system down. Whenever anyone is the last remaining alive, the following pops up in the middle of everybody's screen: Test X describes the round number, and "Y collected most data" tells who won that round. After a few seconds it gets replaced with the scoreboard where you can compare the progress of everyone (how many rounds they have won) up towards the score limit. You will always display on the top, the players below are sorted after highest progress. That gif was recorded with using lua_run, so that's why it says Test 0 and why the arena behind isn't there. Anyway, also got some new weapons! The Sniper Rifle freezes you when you shoot it for a short charge-up time, but after that it fires a laser that goes through any wall, killing anyone in a direct line in front of you. The Melonbomb is a reference to one of my favorite gamemodes Melonbomber, which is a take on Bomberman. It places a melonbomb in the middle of your current grid which explodes horizontally and vertically as far as it can go. The Nuke is a rare weapon that when used, deploys a large shield at your current location along with sounding the iconic MW2 nuke alarm. After a little bit of time the nuke drops, killing anyone who didn't make it inside the shield At this point, all I really need to do is make more weapons and perhaps make some flashier effects for some of them, as some of them do seem a bit basic gmod/HL2 style (like the Sniper Rifle, that is just a beam) and I wanted this gamemode to be really flashy and fast-paced. Also gonna need to actually playtest it soon, will probably host an open lobby with people in my Discord server to come play it.
To be perfectly honest, at this point im too far behind (thanks to only getting off school on wednesday) that I will be dropping out. If anyone needs a mapper, I can help: :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZD58twvlXtI if interested, reply or contact me over steam (steam will get my attention at least 5000000x quicker) http://steamcommunity.com/id/GamingMad101/ Maby next time...

More progress. I hope that we'll have a playable game before the deadline
Did I overdo this?
Did I overdo this?
i think you should remove that video now and add a seizure warning...
I like the sound design
Did I overdo this?
That's freaky man.
Did I overdo this?
That was physically painful to watch. The blurry part with the text is pretty good, but the over-the-top part that commits at least seventeen different crimes to my eyes and ears is just dumb. Those awful lights are going to cause more seizures than a certain Pokémon episode if you don't tone it down slightly.

Sign me up! I would love to become a judge, I own a server aswell and I WILL open a second server that runs the winning gamemode!
Well that was too bloody close - I noticed my games HDD (obviously containing my gamemode) was going a bit slower then usual, so i did a scan and found a shit-ton of bad sectors. Immediately went out and bought a replacement today and I am currently in the process of backing up :pcrepair:
Is this better? :badzing:
That is way way better! Sorry for being so harsh about it before.
Unfortunately, gonna have to drop out. I don't really have enough time to develop my gamemode into something that I think would be really good, and I've also started to question the general idea/nature of my gamemode. Probably going to rework it into something MUCH much different, hopefully in time for Halloween. Best of luck with your entries, guys!
Nookyava, what is the exact cutoff point for the competition, in date, time, and timezone?
I've created a submissions channel in the Discord, so make sure to join that (link in the OP). Your submission MUST be in by the end, however I will allow bug fixes to be committed after the fact. ONLY bug fixes though, if there are features added afterwards we will either refuse to use that version, or we will disqualify it.
Alright, I think it's time to share a bit more progress. Had alot of things added since last, as well as a proper beta playtesting session with my Youtube following on my Discord server. The gamemode was alot more fun than I expected it to be, considering I hadn't added all the flashy and fast-paced effects I originally wanted. After playing it like this, I honestly feel that the gamemode is playable as it is right now ... Well, other than the fact that the game doesn't even begin and you have to lua_run GAMEMODE:BeginRound() to start the game :v: Anyway, the biggest addition since last is gonna be the F1 Admin menu. It allows the admin to enable/disable every single weapon and maze at any time, which allows you to set up the game exactly how you want it. On top of that, the Maze Environment tab allows you to control the maze. It lets you preview any of the mazes on the server, and lets you build the maze at any time (even mid-round, although this could cause players to be able to get out of the map by using the walls as elevators up). In this gif you can also see the suggested feature where all walls move up in a wave pattern from the top-left to the bottom-right. It also does this when the round restarts and the maze builds a random from the enabled pool. I showed me editing the maze as a concept for the maze's structure back in the first post I made on this thread. Well this F1 menu finally lets you utilize the built-in editor to create your own maps and save them to text files, after which you can play them in the future (and enable/disable along with the rest). The admin opening the panel can toggle editing on any player, so if you wanna just edit some maps with your friends who aren't admins, you can! The preview also updates as can be seen when I open the menu again. Right below the preview there's a text field which lets you name the map, and pressing the bottom button "Save to File" saves the wall data as a JSON to /data/data_required/[name].txt. Well, that's the juicy new stuff added. On top of that, a few more weapons of course! The Star is a reference to Mario and turns you invulnerable for 5 seconds, killing anyone you run into with your faster movement speed. The Turret is an automatic deployed turret that will shoot anyone within its range. Watch out, that includes yourself! Finally, the Airstrike is a global weapon that lets you call down a missile from above at ANY position in the maze. Simply click where you want it to strike! Well that's it for this update. Things missing are pretty much just finalizing save/load of custom mazes, finalizing the F1 Admin menu styling, some more beta testing to balance some of the worse weapons, and then of course the highly-requested killfeed and multikill-announcer that everyone who played the beta with me wanted me to add. We'll see if I get around to that. Oh, and the logo for the workshop has also been made! I do really like the digital distortion theme I went with with this entire gamemode! I expect to have the gamemode fully released on the workshop before the deadline the 31st!
$4,180! NANI?!
Cutting it close now...
I'm so tempted to join in. But I doubt I be able to complete my game mode in time. Literally just started a half a week ago. And while I'm making a lot of progress; it's highly unlikely I'll complete it in a polished form. Saying all that I'm excited to see some what people worked on.
Alright, last update as the gamemode has now been completed! A couple of features have been added, and then of course weapons balanced and fully implemented. One of the features added was, like previously mentioned, a Killfeed as requested by the players that joined me in a beta playtesting session. It uses the weapon drop as an icon, making it easy to add new weapons as you don't have to create a whole new kill icon for it. It looks like this: A little handy feature I wanted was to be able to see who's who. I added a display of names if you hover over a player with your mouse: The weapons panel was redesigned from the previous 2-column list to a 1-column list that then displays information about the weapon, as well as how it looks in-game. It lets players review weapons without having to be alive long enough in-game to try it out for themselves. With that added, the F1 menu was changed to no longer be admin only, but allow any player to open it - however only admins will be able to change the tickboxes (non-admins will still see which weapons and maps are enabled), and only admins can access the maze control panel. With that, the health bar HUD had a little upgrade to let players know how to use it. It also adds a counter for how many players are still alive, making it easier to find people who might be hiding, as we experienced a bit of during our playtesting. Finally, why not end it off with showcasing the last 3 weapons that are in the game? - - From left to right: The Shotgun, Gatling Gun, Cloak and Dagger. The shotgun shoots 5 bullets that bounce once each in a small cone. It is probably the fastest to use weapon, and will deal a full 100 damage for each bullet. The gatling gun only deals 35 damage, but its bullets are much faster and bounces 2 times. Before careful not to hit yourself though! The Cloak and Dagger lets you go invisible for 5 seconds, but during which you can melee people to death with your crowbar! It is one of the most scary weapons, seeing someone go invisible near you is terrifying. Of course, a few new maps have also been added, but those should be for you to explore. The in-game map editor also now works with saving your maps so you can play them later! And that's about it! The gamemode is now available on the Workshop as well as on Github. Some things could probably still use a bit of tweaking and balancing, and there might be some rare bugs here and there, but other than that the gamemode runs smoothly (at least on my client). It should be playable for the judging, although if there are any bugs found I will probably not have time to fix them as I am leaving home here tomorrow. Let's just hope it doesn't completely break down if moved to a dedicated server :v: [editline]30th July 2017[/editline]
It'll be a stream like last time. If you can't make it then instructions may work best, and in terms of general questions I'd leave some information regarding your thought process behind the gamemode, specific features, how you started and designed things, etc.
Where would I leave this information? Just a (probably long) post on this thread, or a PM somewhere?
Private message would probably be best, and I can go over it then during the stream. [editline]30th July 2017[/editline] Also here is everyone's friendly reminder on time left. Everyone who hasn't already please submit your GitHub links in the #submissions channel on our Discord guild. This just gives us a easy readable list of submissions so we can open up a scoring sheet for your gamemode.
https://github.com/disseminate/coi Workshop: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=972128319 [t]https://raw.githubusercontent.com/disseminate/coi/master/docs/media/1.jpg[/t] [t]https://raw.githubusercontent.com/disseminate/coi/master/docs/media/2.jpg[/t] [t]https://raw.githubusercontent.com/disseminate/coi/master/docs/media/3.jpg[/t] Conflict of Interest is a gamemode where you're on a bank robbing squad and have to rob a bank - the problem being every other bank robbing crew in the city had the same idea, for the same bank, at the same time. You have 30 seconds to select/buy a loadout and switch teams, 8 minutes to rob as much money as you can from the bank (and stop other people from robbing it), and a 30 second debrief. Police show up to further annoy you and your squad around the halfway mark. If you aren't in your getaway truck at the end of the round, you lose your cut. Finally, once the round ends, all the money successfully robbed is distributed among your team and you can spend it on more upgrades/weapons/tools. In the repo there's an FGD/example VMF for mappers and contributing guidelines if anyone wants to help out - I'll be accepting PRs after the contest ends!
I'm gonna post mine here anyways.
