That's right, there's no theme. This was decided based on the appeal the last competition had, and on feedback. As of right now you guys are free to start coding your gamemodes. Keep in mind that your gamemodes [b]must[/b] be multiplayer. Your gamemodes must also be hosted on GitHub and open to anyone to view when you submit your entry.
We're still accepting donations, and you can enter/drop out at any time before the competition ends.

How will we be sure that all submissions were started and finished during the competition start and end dates if there is no theme?

The submissions will need to be submitted by the end of the final day (EST), anything past that will not be accepted.
Anyone could have started early and there's no way I could have prevented that. People could have easily done the same in the last one, and just changed things to fit with the theme.
Really it's just hoping people are honorable.

idk would u really expect much progress without knowing the theme in 1 week? I think most people wanted to rely on a theme to decide what they should create tbh.

Also honestly, what's stopping people from backing out on their sponsor ship, since the money isn't sent until the comp is over what happens if people back out of it?
I really don't mind putting my money in a coffer or anything that'll hold the funds until the competition is over, nor do I think anyone serious about their sponsorship does either.

Some people did drop out of sponsorship with the last one, it's just a risk that's taken really. Toward the end of the competition it was put into a common PP account to be paid out by a single party.

Yeah, now they're taking in sponsorship a little earlier so right now there's a coffer for all the prize money so people can't just back out but instead if they want to enter they need to donate their fair share.
For a bit there I was afraid the idea I had wouldn't fit the theme, but that doesn't seem to be an issue at all so I'm all in. I'm also in the Discord server, Zet0r#8351 if you use it to keep track of competitors.
