GMod - What are you working on? January 2018 (#77)
Highlights from the previous thread
mcormack1994's dialogue tree editor
There's like no highlights so here's some shit I made in case there isn't anything to pick from:
I didn't post them cause I thought they wouldn't be as cool
A cross server gambling jackpot thing that somehow works with 8 servers connected and comes with fancy scrolling:
(I promise this wasn't rigged)
And a map vote meme:
Not much here though
SantosRP is not getting sued by Rockstar, the owner was a greedy bastard that not only demanded $2'500 for "Monthly Upkeep" but he also tried to TRADEMARK SantosRP, one of GTA V publishers (Take Two Interactive) intercepted it and told the owner they would sue if he kept using SantosRP as the name. The owner being the cocky smartass he is actually tried taking it to court and got his ass handed to him. He came back, asked for $50'000 to "SAVE SANTOSRP!" when really it was to soften the blow of what he lost in the legal battle and then sold SantosRP to a new owner that changed the name of the community to MazeRP. I spent months saying that they ruined the gamemode by nerfing every activity other than crime and police making it just a "Whitelisted DarkRP". Then here comes TakeTwo Interactive, my saviour, LITERALLY SAYING IN COURT that the gamemode encourages crime and violence over every other activity. Take that scumbags.
Yikes, not sure why this thread is so dead now.
In any case, I've been a real monkey ball head as of late, if my post history is any indication. To continue this trend, I recently revisited my Garry's Mod Monkey Ball gamemode in order to touch it up considering both the practice and research I've done on the original games.
You can thank rtm516 for helping me get this URL mesh loader working - we're using it to generate stages with far fewer limitations than either .mdl or .bsp format when it comes to complexity of geometry.
(Unfortunately, so far it's much MORE limited when it comes to levels with any kind of moving parts.)
That's really nice! Do you use the mesh library for this with mesh.TexCoord() and all that? Do you use Entity:PhysicsFromMesh() to build colisions?
Anyway, great work! I've never seen something like that in GMod.
Not much to look at, but I'm working on a more in-depth roll system for my server to get my feet wet with Derma and the net library
Now instead of a trained medic somehow failing to apply a bandage, /roll brings up this menu, and the player can select the appropriate roll type.
Bonuses and the minimum/maximum roll are modified based on their character attributes.
Yes we use Entity:PhysicsFromMesh and IMesh:BuildFromTriangles when parsing the model file. I based the code on an old addon that I fixed up will probably release it when its finished (the mesh import addon).
I used to love building huge creations on roleplay servers such as huge government buildings and whatnot, while building I always got annoyed by map shadows that would make most builds look awful. I've made a tool that has the ability to remove map shadows from props, along with this you can also make props darker/brighter using the tool after removing shadows from the prop.
It's probably not that special, but I find it handy
Had requests from people to remove the old-persist system as the text is annoying and the entities didn't support map-creators.
So I made a new tool for perma-props, map-effects (Not done yet) and maybe more stuff in the future.
A friend of mine gave me a concept on a hud, a few hours on the hud made from rectangles only and It's looking pretty good
If you were going for an MS Paint-esk feel, it's looking great.
Few hours? I mean, not trying to be a dick, but you should probably have the planned ui drawn on a piece of paper, or at least have something in your mind. It looks... very generic and plain - Follows the same idea as the other ones. And please, some colours don't work together, try looking at existing designs and borrow few rules, that you can make your own design with
Again, not trying to be a dick, but look into aligning things - and this: render.SetScissorRect
I have found that this helped me a lot, and since we show off our huds, there's mine! It also scales nicely
The "administrator" thingy is a collection of statuses - it follows a check whenever it is meant to be displayed and I can add string replacement to it, it's pretty neat I'd say! (Atm I display features as time, whenever you're hurt, if you got police permissions, and so on - pretty useful.)
The Status bar is something great - I can show the users multiple things based on their actions, I can even tell them when is the next bank robbery possible, if I receive a global variable.
It used to be at the side of the screen:
("Special permissions", "Weapon License", "Wanted for error","Police Officer","Arrested","Wanted")
Also, the crown used to be displayed only to the vip members, got rid of it, because it got annoying.
Didn't really take my time to make a good one, it's intentionally made like this.
Working on a project involving pokémon, I've made a bunch of SWEPs and here's the latest:
And now time for some shameless self-advertising: Here's the discord for the project if you're interested. Discord We need to stand up to all those shitty Pokemon RP servers (350+ Jobs! Point Shop! Custom Jobs!)!
Not much happening this much huh?
This is a preview of the Escape menu, options menu, and character selection/creation process of an upcoming new HL2RP gamemode written from scratch. The final product will feature much more facial customization than this.
For the past month in my spare time I have been working on recreating the CBU-105 sensor infused cluster bomb. And its been a fun time. I tried to get every little detail that I could replicated. Sorry about the shitty audio quality for some reason every recording software hates the drivers for my headset.
Learn more about the real word bomb here [CBU-105 Sensor Fuzed Weapon]
Character System I've recently started to work on whilst in my free time.

Finally got animated stage components working in my monkey ball gamemode. So much potential, now...
Great work, keep it up! I have to say though, the camera moment is causing my heart distress :P
You can adjust the intensity with which the stage tilts. Currently, it's only through a console command, but I plan to expose camera settings to a menu you can open with F3 or F4.
You can also currently adjust the camera distance and height.
Nice work. However, the lighting feels odd to me. The shadows from the ball/player is what I mean mostly
Forgot to post it, made a not-so bad looking plain hud now..
Try using materials over creating colored rectangles, they look kinda dull and way to solid as a color.
You can try add shading to the bars and use a different background for the bars.
Sure thing. Can you recommend me a good site for materials? If there's even.
best bet would be to make your own materials
Just managed to push out probably the biggest update of my entire lyfe.
