"Anycast" DDoS Protection - How many popular servers are manipulating pings

They stopped caring ages ago. The good news is, there is a new way to achieve what anycast does without anycast. I wont name the person doing it - but his community is also in TTT, and since he's also started spoofing his ping like a certain other TTT server, he's been getting more players.
Hopefully there will be a place people can buy this as a service soon, so everyone can compete! Sadly the server list will get totally fucked in the process, because ping is going to become irrelevant, but we'll see hat happens when it becomes available to the mass markets. That might push the gmod devs to actually put some thought into how this is going to impact gmod long-term.
The way the person you are referring to is doing it is not new. In fact it is something that can already get your server banned from the server list.
I just want to make one more quick point about this:
If you actually do this the honest way (i.e. 36 ACTUAL servers, not ones that redirect) this will backfire massively. The reason people even buy "Anycast DDoS protection" is because it ensures that their server is full the entire time of the da. This is due to the fact that people from the EU, US, etc. will join when it is daytime for them because they all think it is a server with good ping. This gives you an unfair advantage since most servers are usually empty during night time which results in lower server rating.
Now if you actually do what you suggested, you will have 36 servers, that are going to split your server's population massively and all of them will most likely only be populated during daytime, which will result in all of them having a fairly low ranking on both the gmod server list and gametracker. Welcome to the problem most honest server owners face.
Knowing you however, I am sure that you are going to pull something deceitful and you are not actually going to host 36 real servers.
If you read what he said carefully, it seems he's confirmed you're right:
key term "just not have them for ddos mitigation only" - remember he claims that the anycast is "DDoS Mitigation".
Well, I do mean myself and others yes, if you think about it any small community trying to start-up will get find it troublesome that there's nearly a dozen of your servers constantly at the top of the list.
Also building a community doesn't rely on what addons you got, it's how good you treat your players, and you probably had a good community at one point but right now you're just being dishonest to all of them by faking your ping, especially in a TTT community where ping is a pretty vital thing if you wanna preform well in it.
But only the ping spoofed servers actually get a high amount of players, relative to your other servers average player counts.

You lied? Your servers don't all fill up at peak times. Anyway, I was talking about your average playercount. The spoofed servers average playercounts are the only ones which are high. This is because like Freddy said:
seems like you're just avoiding the facts, but whatever makes you feel better
Ideally any community owned by anyone doing this would be removed permanently but yeah, really seems like they don't give a damn about something that's heavily damaging thousands of GMod servers in playercount. This should include the likes of Moat even though he claims he's cancelling the service.
This doesn't actually affect me, like at all. My server lists under a gamemode that doesn't have all these big names fucking people over. I care more about other people who are actually affected by it. Like I said, if you fail to see how a lot of users join initially (i dont mean staying) at least in part due to ping, well, I have no clue what to say. Ping is one of the, if not the main filter people use whilst looking for a server. I don't care if someone is joining and staying for the content, I care that there are definitely people who initially join for ping reasons when other more regional servers would've been suggested to them instead of big names paying a premium to suppress other servers. Also, if you do not believe what you're doing is actively suppressing and damaging smaller servers you are *beyond* daft. Your case in particular is the most damaging because of how many servers you had open using this method where as big DarkRP names only end up with 1 or 2.
The Superior Servers thread in the OP only scrapes the surface of the SS's shenanigans and bullshittery. They've been doing sketchy stuff since day one.
Congrats, because you failed to read the sticky, you just ruined this thread for everyone! Thread closed.
