It's been a while since I really made something purely just for fun.
Don't know why trying to master lighting is so hard for this. But here's yet another Lighting Test.

Don't put a sun layer practically in front of the build, secondly have you checked that the near-z and fov are as fight as they can be
My near-z and FOV may have been off, I'll have to check on my next pose.
Why does the world disappear behind the rocks?
My first
Wanted to add infantry but I hate posing. I also wanted to use gm_black but objects in the distance kept fading away and I don't kow why, so I had to settle with flatgrass.
And speaking of infantry, I've seen some super cool airborne models but can't find them anywhere.

@The Devils Own Next time you're lighting something put "r_projectedtexturefilter 0" or if that screws your shadows 0.1
This should fix the issue you're having with the awful grainy and imprecise shadows like these and should actually make your shadows way more visible

Also sort of looks like your lamp fov is a little too high, hence lighting errors like the plants not casting shadows. Try moving the lamp way further away and closing the fov a bit
@The bird Man
For gm_flatgrass that's impressive as fuck
the issue you're having with gm_black sounds like its to do with the weird fog setting the map has by default. Spawn a fog editor and you should be good to go
You'll get some fantastic infantry models here

You want to see what it looks like without a filter?

Here is the image with ONLY ONE filter on it, the rest are just me fucking around with the filter.

Which one do you prefer?
Seriously, which one looks better to you?
IMHO it’s less “use less filters” and more “don’t use filters that look like total ass”
Though the unedited one doesn't look that great, the filtered one looks worse
How does the original look best?
It looks so bright and plain, like there is no detail in lighting, some shadows are barely visible. the grass field has an obvious change in colour in the filtered version, which gives off more variety, it goes from light yellow to dark yellow to white, the lighting is practically non-existent in the original, The ground underneath the grass pops out much more, and the changes in colour and shades are much more obvious in the filtered version, whilst the original has no visible detail. What about the vibrant red car and buggy, what about the vibrant blue tarp, and the vibrant blue car behind the boat along with the vibrant blue boards, then the vibrant red strips on the stack of bags in the bottom right corner, this is all thanks to the filter, without it all those colours are so grey and dusty, which isn't appealing.
The original looks like a scenebuild without the lamps turned on (aside from some of the shadows), the end result looks like an end result.
Oh if you want to, take the original picture and add your own filter to it, see what suits it best yourself.
But you’re making a picture of an open field. Of course it’ll look dusty and plain. Sometimes making a good picture isn’t just about throwing as much detail and eye-raping “vibrant” colors that “pop out”, you know.
Sometimes, less is more.
