"Want To Post A Picture But Don't Want To Make A Thread" - Thread V8: (x1 Coin)

Didn't you make the picture? Don't you have control of the lighting you've used in your picture?
If the shadows are barely visible then what stops you from just toning down the ambient light a bit?
Before resorting to hard as fuck contrast filters, try messing around with the lighting itself and maybe do some slighter colour correction in post if it reeaaly isn't working
Also you're going on about vibrancy in the filtered version, but most of the colours are just crushed and burnt. I see what you're trying to do but its just not there.
The original is an example of too much less.
The edited version can not physically be eye-rape, this is eye-rape
https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/183687/332b2fce-6230-4271-9c80-37af1ecc01de/eyerape.jpg
An image that makes your head spin, makes you think you see motion or something that makes your eyes hurt is eye-rape, not an image with some vibrant colours.
An open field never meant dusty and plain, open field really just means a field that is big, vast, and isn't covered that much by anything, whether that's trees or man-made structures, and grass doesn't count as covering because an open field can easily be an open field of grass, such as a glade, but still you can throw plenty of man-made objects on an open field and still have it be an open field, even then, at least 3rd or maybe even half of the image is nothing but grass, so that's pretty empty on its own.
When did I say it was a good idea throw as much detail as you can in an image, that isn't a good idea, nor is it a good idea to throw little to no detail in an image as you can, I think I balanced the detail out, like I said, at least a third or half of the image is a grass field, the rest contains pretty spaced out objects, there a 4 vehicles in total, two of which are out of the way, one of those two you can hardly see, and some barricading, beyond this is more grass, and the grass isn't eye-rape level detail either, so I don't see your point here.
Holy fucking shit you took the eye rape remark waaaayyyy too literally
Also that was really fucking hard to read because of the trippy picture you put in, so thanks
Toning down the light on the lamps just makes the shadows less visible, and gm_black has no ambient lighting so I don't know what you mean. All I really could do was use filters, but seriously take a look at this:
https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/183687/235c56fc-bdff-4a98-9f6e-80790a0fb77d/shadow2.jpg
Then look at this:
https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/183687/b17c3dbb-14da-488d-af1c-2e738435b5c1/shadow1.jpg
Look at how much more obvious the shadows become, and how much the light is blocked compared to the original.
By crushed and burnt I assume you mean they're made darker than the original, if so, how?

I mean these are practically glowing compared to the original in terms of vibrancy.
That's actually a command that changes color of the default shadows (as seen here), not the ones cast dynamically by lamps.
You can use it to hide the shadows on maps - r_shadowcolor 255 255 255.
I accept this challange.

This is what I got in a few minutes, so basically you can put more effort in editing and get a really nice result.
Probably you have a light for sun, for sky and maybe few for ambient lights. If you need to strengthen your shadows try to play with opacity of ambient layers (if you use light stacking) or increase strength of your sun lamp and decrease it for ambient ones.
The shadows become more dark because you're literally darkening everything.
You also completely misinterpreted my advice.
When I said "tone down the ambient light" I meant turn down whatever is filling your shadows. If you're worrying about the shadows not being obvious enough you'd think that maybe physically darkening your shadows would be a solution.
Also yes, the original colours aren't great, but making them more """""vibrant""""" isn't helping at all. In fact the harshness of the filter you're applying is damaging your detail, making some of the forms, especially in the shadows, much harder to discern entirely.
The original is better in my eyes because, on top of the colours not being weird, the details are easier to take in
Oh, wait how do I do dat? Whats the command?
You know how when you spawn a light entity it gives the option to change its settings
and when its spawned you get to right click it and edit its properties
No I mean what the fuck is the command to change the ambient light colour.
But I'm not talking about changing the colour of it I'm talking about toning it down so the shadows are darker.
also it lets you change the colours of lights in the spawn menu or you can use the colour tool
Wait what since when did I fucking edit anything, aside from the edit saying "Was replying to TheDaveSecond", and the other one was just me rephrasing what I said. I fucking realised how retarded I am but anyway.
Dood

To which I reply "Not actually aware of the command" Assuming what he meant by changing the colour of the ambient lighting, which isn't what he meant but moving on,
Then you reply to that so I say
"No I mean what the fuck is the command to change the ambient lighting"
after realising that saying that didn't help, I then edited the comment to say "Was replying to TheDaveSecond" in reference to the picture above.

This is a map's default ambient lighting, which you can't really change unless you edit the map in Hammer (map editor).
If we took away the lamp, there would still be a shadow underneath the character, that shadow you can disable or change its color by using the command r_shadowcolor.
Now, on a map with no default ambient lighting, such as gm_black, if you use a lamp tool to illuminate the scene, you get this...

Pure black dynamic shadow.
And to change the color of these dynamic shadows, you need to create another source of light, i.e. lamp or light.

Obviously, if you already understand this BlightBite, then feel free to ignore this post. I am merely posting it here for clarity.
see the issue I had was that the first version of this post before you edited it sounded like a reply to me instead of to Dave because it was vague
I thought it was you misinterpreting me telling you to turn down the fill light for more pronounced shadows
Also Dave's post went up while I was typing one out so I didn't see it until later after realizing it was before mine

work in progress scenebuild - the open ceilings of the bays i'll fix in post, dealing with resized effect models (that reset their proportions every time i load the save) is already painful enough as it is

why the shit are they resetting
the effect resizer in these addons rar https://www.dropbox.com/s/kmg42vwi4w4utfe/vaddons%20updated.rar?dl=0 should work fine with saves
i bothered to write code to fix it because i refused to torture myself with that kind of nonsense, I dont know how you put up with it
