Messing around with interior lighting:

Remind me of Roman architecture, is that what this is based off?
Nothing really, the architecture is just a backdrop for testing lighting, etc

Inspired by Hollywood movies, specifically the ones during the 60's & 70's.

Are you sure you're using soft lamps? or even lamps for that matter? Because that just looks like fullbright.
I think that's legit just fullbright with lamps pointed at a few germans...
also, there's missing finger posing on the bloke on the machine-gun
Pretty much.
i was using fullbright and soft lamps to see if it looks like all the other's great artwork and experimenting if it looks good or not. i'm kinda new to this.
Well don't use fullbright from now on, it limits your shadows to one specific colour and opacity, it hides the detail within geometry in your scenes, and it also doesn't allow you to use the soft lamps in their intended way, it looks nothing like actual shadows you see in real life.
If you want realistic lighting, then follow this guide:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1OQ5nK11qKaOCNBT66Jd8Njf8vOkCmZe8Eywmn7JT2z4/edit
It's an intimidating and long guide, but read through it carefully, make sure you don't gloss over anything, and you should get it.
It's not that hard:

Just get a brush with a hardness of 0 and make it completely white, then paint it along the lights.

Save this and use it as a 'screen' layer. Use hue to change the color of the lens flare.
oo
thanks so much for the help
