First Gmod picture i've done in god knows how many years; might even be a decade at this point. Lost interest almost immediately when I realised I can't photoshop smoke trails, explosions or whatnot for shit. Was gonna do a "let me sing you the song of my people" with A-10s. Plus the trees on that map are crap.

ayy doom
are you up for getting into this shit cause believe me, this is just the surface and its a wild ride
Haven't got as much time for it nowadays as i'd like. Might do a better version of that pic at a much later time.

Was messing with the color tool on some foliage props, came out with that, pretty happy with it, unfortunately the grasses only appear well on dark backgrounds, so like that dark brown dirt trail, if it were bright, the grasses would go transparent.

Well, shit, the soft lamp tool got updated on the Steam Workshop and everything I've been used to doing is now broken. Every shadow resolution gives the screenshot an awful color banding and even places not illuminated by the lamps get fucked to hell for no reason and I have no idea why.
what was the grass model that you used here?
All of the foliage seen in that shot is from the COD: WW2 pack.

Was fuckin about and it turned into this. Always fun when that happens.

Had a little pop at a scene-build - been ages since I've done, well, anything with Gmod, and I'm rather pleased with the results. Shadows were a pain in the arse, and I'm not too sure about the clutter, but I'm quite happy with the posing and okay-ish with the lighting - though the lantern I'm not too pleased with, as I was looking more for a Miner's style lamp and couldn't find any bar the one seen.

I am using my saved soft lighting setup. I had to severely lower the brightness of each lamp, but the lower the brightness is, the more color banding there seems to be, and I can't go for brightness higher than 0.6 because then the illuminated scene is just blindingly bright.
You can see how bright stuff is by looking at the sunglasses, this never happened to me before.
this dude doesnt wear glasses to protect himself from sun, but from the brightness of the soft lamps

I did this in like an hour or two. This is my first attempt at making a scene please don't kill me if I fucked something really simple up
also sorry for using construct
Try to disabel poster_aa 0 and put poster_darken at 0.3 each time you load a map this makes color pop in more bright settings and remove color burning.
You're a fucking legend.
The lighting is beautiful
You're very kind. You'd be surprised to know that it was done with three lamps. I don't use soft lamps or any fancy tools like that. Vanilla lamps work fine. I don't retouch with Photoshop, they all come out of the engine and I just upload the screenshots when I'm done. It's a bit awkward- because it's like being a chef and never keeping recipes. I just throw stuff in, and sometimes it works really good, other times not so much. I built the bus scene without intention, it originally being background detail for a pose I couldn't quite orchestrate- it just wasn't comfortable for me, and I couldn't figure out the camera angles, regardless, I was roaming around and I managed to find a nice little spot by that bus so I snapped a picture. It turned out really good, a lot better than what I tried to over-achieve in my first attempt.
I don't go into it with a specific idea in mind, I kind of just imagine the environment I want to illustrate. I've liked doing forests recently because I grew up around and them and they're easy for me to illustrate.

After about an hour or two of experimentation and placing of my tree lines, I started to assemble my posing grounds.

I kind of just threw stuff together that I thought looked nice in an overgrown forest, lots of cars that nature had taken back and so forth. I then tried to setup a shot and I was kind of disappointed. I think what ruined this area was my actual over-brightness of lamps. You see, the back area (the bus area) had a shortage of lamps. It made everything cool that wasn't being touched by the lamps. I think that's what gave it the look that made it look real. The front was far too bright. I saved the whole build, so maybe tomorrow I'll go back and revisit it. For now though- I spent more time making something I ended up not even liking and using in exchange for something much simpler, which was the bus. I like the bus.

I ended up with this, rather annoyed. It wasn't very good, at least in my eyes, so I passed on the guy in the middle and just made it feature the natural foliage and some crows. It still didn't look very good, the shading was all off and I wasn't really happy with it. Thanks for the compliments.
This is some concept art I quickly threw together in an hour or so, I'm just testing out effects and such, I'm planning to do some GMod style scenes essentially taking place on a scenebuilded version of gm_construct where players are messing around, like we all did when new to Garry's Mod:

I'd like to take this opportunity to say both thank god for prop-lock and that this posing took ages simply because I couldn't decide on what lighting was best; in the end, I went with a fairly basic choice that I think worked. This like the one before it is for a little project I'm dabbling on, nothing at all fancy, but I quite like how this came out - both in Gmod and in GIMP.
he is magic man
