What happened to the "barely scripted" roleplaying?

I couldn't agree more. Simple RP = Best RP
You people are aware that if you roleplay properly, and profit from it, those who don't rp properly will do the same. You just got to stay happy and roleplay, though nobody else does it.
And THAT, is how we temporarily fix the mingebag/children problem!
They've just been playing on the servers too long without a proper old rp'er to set an example.
I advice you all to do that.
I will.
There are (were?) 2 kinds of Roleplay in GMod...
1) You define your role.
2) The script defines your role.
"1" sounds like it could never get old... but a restrictive script is sort of required these days to keep the children out. Cakescript works quite well for keeping the kids out since you can't blow things up so easily with it. (boring for them)
This is a little bit like "I remember the good old days before we needed Prop Protection". More kids = more destruction. People tend to get more creative as they get older.
DarkRP server + mini algebra test on connect = less minges. In fact I feel like making an addon for this...
Love the idea of the mini algebra test. Make sure it isn't multiple choice though. Funny as it is, it's actually a really good idea. Sure, some people that suck at math couldn't play, but the loss would be minuscule compared to the amount of 9 year olds it would keep out.
"DAD COME HELP ME WITH MATH, I WANNA BLOW UP THE MAYOR!"

I have tried and sometimes still try to do that, but often I find the other people get bored and shoot you in the face to speed up the process. Also, it kind of wrecks the moment when I try and /me fight with someone and then they ask me 'huws u mk ur name cum up?????". You usually have to start with the people who show the slightest hint of intelligence first, then build your way down to the apes and newborns.
And then sometimes they ignore you, run away when you say semi-serious rp or they fail to understand the concept when you ask them to 'buy' my bottle prop for a drink. They just go "Why shoul;d i pay 4 da prop wen i cn spawn 1 and hngermod not on?".
Meteornet/Melonbrew was the best place for decent Real-Life roleplay, but I had to give up on it when the American server lagged like hell on my crap internet. I used to love being in the private detective agency. :smith:
I think it got so overscripted that everyone lost every sense of imagination. Just before I joined one of those snazzy 40/50 player servers just to see why so many people always go on them. And when I joined is was just a bunch of kids using their 20$ donation money driving cars around and trying to find the nearest gun store to random dm. I also hate it when people be hitmen, using at as a excuse to DM. I saw someone charging one dollar per murder. Basically either you're a cop or a criminal in rp. Wich means it's pretty much just dming with a cool UI. Oh and a admin circle jerk, not that that parts diffrent from other gmod servers.
That is why I stick to story-RP, imagination is a requirement to enjoy it at all.
Perhaps, we can make a simple roleplay script that has only basic essentials, like a simple money system, and prop protection with doors. Maybe something like Build RP, without all the drugs and guns. I mean, we could even roleplay on sandbox!

Well yeah, having money would be a minimum. Just something that's a counter on the server, and which you can drop or give like in Killing Floor. And, of course, votekick.

Indeed, and I love it.
The good old days of HL2DM Rp without ANY scripts was better.

Yeah, I remember playing on hometown1999, those were probably the best days of my gaming experience.
Well, I always prefered the player-created non-scripted rp experience. I grown up playing D&D with my friends, and it's sad for me to see people just letting scripts do everything. Where's imagination? Where's customisation?
I own a clan, we often roleplay. It's pure sandbox with a set of rules ^^.
