Yeah i did a fresh reinstall a while ago but i hav'ent played alot since then, i think i backed up all my addons so im just gonna clear everything but my maps this time, that's if steam updates.
You will want to get a graphics card that supports Alien Swarm by February if you want to play GMod, as Garry has said the GMod will most likely be going to the Portal 2 engine.

When you consider back then I was on Windows XP (probably needs less than Win7, and DEFINITELY needs less than Vista) and I replaced the default Windows desktop with something a bit more lightweight, it makes perfect sense to me.
I havent read many of the posts, but from what I have read there is no viable reason to need to downgrade to a previous engine. the newer engine, especially with Source SDK has tons of new features, apart from adding the Piss annoying "Ctrl + H" = Delete everything except what is selected, instead of Hollowing.
