Don't be so dramatic. OP, someone posted EXACTLY what you want in the lua what are you working on thread. I think he posted his code, go ask in it.
Dramatic used without any proper neccesity always pwns!:happyelf: [editline]12:44AM[/editline]
physgun is beast
Second that !!
HEY! PHYSGUN BUILDMODE WILL GIVE YOU A DAMN SNAP TO GRID OPTION! IT'S RIGHT HERE: http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=889029 Now stop preaching PA.
This is true. I just found it combersome, also, its much closer to OP's discription. Smart snap alone gives you a snap grid. PA will provide points, lines, and planes. So far, learning the proper use of PA has been the greatest thing since learning e2. It inspired me to finally stop relying on vanilla props and make some high prop count phx planes. There isnt really any reason NOT to preach PA. Its a fantastic tool that almost exactly meats OP's suggestion (which is a very good one). However, OP's idea could be even better. I think I might write an e2 up that does something similar. PA is pretty inefficent for moving things relative to the world. Being able to set a target position via C menu would be nice, along with a clear readout of current position, and a marker at your target position. Essentially what PA does, except simpler, and better for moving objects to global positions. An ability to freely move objects along one axis while leaving the others untouched would be very nice. I belive a tool like OP descriped in a well developed and optomised state would be fantastic, it wouldnt quite replace PA for angling around points and moving one prop to another, but I would use it quite often @Dragon Master I play gmod as a scripter and an engineer, I like complexity and in depth design. I love how wire has links to mathworld. Gmod can be played many ways, I play it as an engineering game. Probably one of the only in existance. Many others do the same. Yes, I am German. IN OTHER NEWS: There is no getting around the fact that the physgun is as much a symbol of gmod as the melon. Its a fantastic tool, but there comes a time when we want more.
This combined with queryphys to allow prop mirroring, would be an awesome addition if you wanted to make precise contraptions, but shouldn't be a vanilla part of Gmod. Leave it up to a Lua coder to make it because that's why Gmod has Lua.
PA alone does prop mirroring. No queryphys nessesary. And agreed.
Does it physically mirror the collision model?
Does it physically mirror the collision model?
of course. it wont poly weld it by itself, thats up to you. With PA, you provide a plane, as per the tool, and you mirror props across it
The whole point of gmod is the physgun.
Nope, it was originally the rope tool.
No collide?
Physics Sandbox. What?
Physics Sandbox. What?
In order to build something it will be nessesary, except for rube goldberg's etc
Yes it does need to more advanced I agree you.

[editline]12:05AM[/editline]
Yes it does need to more advanced I agree you.
Hey it has worked and been the icon of Gmod for years, nobody has complained about it or questioned it in the past, so I think it should be left alone! [editline]12:07AM[/editline]
I personally prefer shoving things into place with the physgun, it feels more involved.
This guy has the right Idea, British I'm guessing :D?

I dunno, If you use Gmod for "Engineering" surely you should be able to use Source SDK for your purposes? I like the way you Germans take everything so seriously, making a drivable penar is "Engineering" xD, Cracks me up :britain:
I'd Still Prefer the Physgun, Just with several modes attached to it. like the basics, weld, axis, rope, etc. The Reason why i would not choose this is that, its too advanced for the common player, Physgun keeps it simple.

LOL hell no, I make realistic heli mechanics, inependant suspension, a few engines, realistic plane control surfaces... The list goes on. If you think gmod is limited to dicks, you really haven't tried very hard. One of my latest creations was a 100 something prop p-38 lightning replica. I am a student pilot, I take my planes seriously. Acctually, source sdk doesn't even approch my purpouses. Hammer Is no physics game/devtool. Sdk fits my programming approch, but gmod (when acctually engineering, ie heli mechanics) fits my engineering desire. People like me don't claim it to be srs busns, we make it srs. For something like a dick car, the good ol' physgun is fine, but to do what me and a large community over in the contraptions forum do, at least PA is nessesary. I love OP's idea.
