It's not finished, aesthetically speaking, but I'll flesh it out later. For now I think it works, but it needs to be playtested. I was going to jump on nofear's parasite server to ask him to host it, but the server's not there! Maybe I could get you (icky), benji, ifap, nofear, and other reputable people to host a password protected playtest session?
Oh and I know the guns are red, that's my faulty cubemaps (can't buildcubemaps because it says the file isn't writable, when it's clearly writable in the properties), I haven't been able to fix it all day and it's such a minuscule thing that I don't care. It doesn't really hurt anything.

Nofear's server is back online, and while I could upload the map to his server and make a mapchange, I don't have time currently today to sit in the server and admin.
So I'll start up my server on this map. Again, I won't be available to admin on it, and it'll only be an 8 slot server, but it should be enough to test out the map.
Edit: On starting the map on my server, the server console reported:

Not anything serious, but worth fixing for the next update of the map. :D

Splitsticks, that map, IT IS AWESOME! It kicks ass!
I really feel the "The thing" game environment from it (except for lack of fuseboxes :P) and although I've not yet had anyone join my server to help test gameplay, in my opinion, it's gonna be just awesome!
being an objective person (most of the time :P) I do have some points however:
I had to rename the map. Even though I had the map both on my server and client installs, the server tried to send the map - and then failed as it already existed. This is just because the name is too long. I renamed it to para_outpostnorth30_v1 on my server.
It seems odd to me that the shower is in a fairly large room, but there is only 1 shower there. I imagine this was a gameply decision, but when there are multiple toilets, food and bed spots, only 1 shower didn't make any sense to me - especially as there is room in there for a lot more.
Knowing which doors open and which don't can be difficult. Obviously with extended play, people will just learn and remember which doors do and don't open, but some way of knowing would help. Valve avoided this by any door that can open has a door handle on it; doors that do not open have no handle. (or have that combine lock on them.)
regardless of those points, this map is EXCELLENT WORK - you should be proud!

Someone made a new map? Oh and I can make an ambient music play list for this (System Shock 2, what else :D) and use my game music module to manage this. I'll whip that up right now.

And about the shower, I honestly have no idea how 1 shower will work, but I was curious to see. If it turns out to be a bad decision I'll add another. It's not a normal shower though but an emergency chemical shower so that's how I rationalized only putting one in (that building will look more like a laboratory when it's fleshed out).
I'm also a little concerned that I put in too many weapons and health packs and made it too easy for the humans, plus with so many hallways being within earshot of eachother it should be a more challenging map for the hosts to make a clean kill and getaway, but that's what bluffing's for!

Since it was renamed the soundscape stopped working. I reuploaded the map with the short name and a soundscape to match. I must have the ambiance!

I just went back and checked that out, turns out the "non-solid to player" flag isn't compatible with "ignoredebris-yes" or "forceclosed-yes". The error doesn't hurt anything though, but I'll reupload it again with the fix while it's still early, so those annoying error messages don't come up.
*edit* Ok, here's a new version, it should have fixed the door errors. I just uploaded a version titled v2 after realizing that conflicting names are a bad thing. :tinfoil: Bear with me I've never released a map before I'm learning as I go. :)

Ok, I got a playlist compiled, gods it's atmospheric. :3: Only thing is that it's big, I went for quality over portability so it's about fifty MB, I'll see about compressing it further but it'll probably have to remain as something you download yourself for your client. (My game music module will be included. :loleyes: It was meant for Stars! until I got bored from typing stats for everything and put it away for a bit.)
I found one or two tracks which would be good if we can find a way to call them in correctly, like (I renamed them) 'Escape Run', 'Alien Among Us', and 'Endgame'. The problem will be to have the game make an intelligent decision of when to play them, if at all. Since this is going to be a clientside addition it'll probably be easier to have it so that the server sends UMsgs when to trigger some of those special events and an otherwise just to ignore it and let the client control the playlist.
Current this is the playlist:
Alone... 2:12 (Hydroponics Deck 2)
Alien Among Us... 4:03 (Operations Deck 2)
Endgame 3:22 (Command Deck 2)
Escape Run 3:03 (Hydroponics Deck 1)

Yah, a few things about balance, how about NOT having the players jailed when they shoot down a human, and when they shoot down an alien in human form they stay in that form. Like that they don't know if they just killed Jimmy or if they got the stalking bastered.
Because some asshole would just run around shooting every other player till he was the last one alive.
Then make it so that if theirs more then X amount of player deaths the humans automatically lose?
Unless x is less than 1, that's very griefable.
Anyways, I used to play this gamemode a lot, and now that there's actually a server up for it, I'm getting back into it. Parasite is definitely tied for my favorite gamemode.
I'll get on the server and try the new map in an hour, can't wait.

Just have it so if all the humans die they lose, like that their helping the alien if they start shooting each other out of paranoia.

And we need to disable voice/chat com over large distances and if they don't have a line of sight to the other guy, like that bobby can't scream out 'OMhZ Killza1556 IS THa Pa3raAsit!' before he get's eaten.

No, that's part of the challenge, you mustn't know exactly where you need to go all the time, like that you can get lost, waylaid, ambushed, delayed, etc...

Some players really are so stupid as to kill other players, for fun, just because they can. It's a dangerous game to give players the option at all.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with devenger. In a perfect world, your idea would be great, but there are too many people that just fuck around for their own delight.
On the note of exploits, what do you think of a host killing the last human with a pistol headshot? Of course the host turned spawn after that as punishment but there were other hosts and with that unclean kill he won the game for aliens. We ran into this situation yesterday, it pissed some people off.

Damn I thought I'd managed to prevent that. I added code so the gamemode's not supposed to check if the game's been won till after said human respawns. (Only applicable to nofear's server)
If a group of people can help me with testing I'll see about fixing that - once the server's back up.
Why is the server going to the v1earlyreleae version of the map and not v2a? Since there's no one in the server right now it's a perfect time to switch to v2a.

SplitSticks thank you for the fantastic map, it looks exactly like the real evironment from "The Thing" but it's really huge and there are point less building's and some need's are in ridiculious places such as the toilet's, there oddly placed in a giant ware house? very confusing i would like to suggest an out house.
