Hah, yeah I know. Consider "redux" the working title. I need to think of an appropriate suffix that says something about what makes the gameplay different. I've got plenty of time ahead of me for that though. I'll make a thread about it once I make some decent progress and have something to show.

I Just noticed this gamemode, is there a new one coming out soon? I may just get another gmod server for my community to run this. It sounds epic.
Good to hear icky! I'll give the coding a rest and get back to polishing the map, and working on another map.
This looks like an awesome game mode, it sound a lot like the game-mode Murder that used to be popular, but with more needs and more of a roleplay. Too bad no servers are hosting it or else i wouldve tried it by now.
I've also been working on a map. It's unlikely, but a few of you may have played the map inf_cerberus which I released a while ago. It wasn't that good, but it's all spooky and creepy so I thought it would be pretty good as a parasite map. At the moment I'm still adding in more maintenance tunnels and stuff, but it's going pretty well if anyone wants to use it...

As you may have noticed, the current showers were copied from Outpost. If the maker of that map happens to read this, please can I use them? :)
Absolutely if you want to use the showers that's no problem. Just remember that they're chemical showers rather than regular showers, so you might want to delete the eyewash bowl and paddle brushes. By the way I like where the map is going so far. It's not very pretty but it looks like the ideas behind it are solid (I hope that makes sense). It should make for good gameplay, looking forward to it!

I tried the 'new version' alpha/beta and even of what I saw of it that worked I didn't like. Especially the alien on a timer to kill humans, it just won't work that way!

You say that like you made something worth glancing at the name of, every thread you post in you give criticism that is just "well it's not good or anything" and in your threads you treat a 1 line script clock as the work of Moses. The gamemode is great

You're obviously an idiot who just likes to bitch about me and is taking the opportunity of doing so because I don't like the new developments. If you actually read then thread and attempt to support your statement with evidence from this thread you will fail because I like this gamemode very much. What I was saying was that the recent beta/alpha, even if it didn't work, just doesn't stay close enough to the horror theme of the gamemode, it feels more like some kind of glorified zombie survival where you rush around to make kills so you can get a better gun.

That said can you please bring this back closer to what it was? I'm afraid that the 'powerup' system will take away from the deceit and suspense of the game.
I don't think you should afraid much. I'll make it so you can't rush (is it possible to rush when you don't know who is your enemy?).

Well firstly I don't know what differences there are as far as maps are concerned between the latest real release and the beta version of the new one, so at least for now it's all for the latest version of the old one.
Also, I have to agree with OlivierHamel here. Admittedly I didn't get to play long enough to check out the abilities and everything due to other issues on the server. However, I dislike the whole 'alien has to eat every X minutes' timer. In the old version there was a very good balance. The humans can't just hide in a corner because then they die from needs. Similarly, the alien can't just walk around as a human since they lose after 10 minutes anyway. On a large or complex map with even a few places to hide or run, 10 minutes isn't THAT long really.
I will give the new version another go sometime so I can check out the skills or whatever, but from what I have seen, I prefer the original.
What's the problem with a timer if it's like ... 5 minutes ? For example of course.
Fix it up so it works like you want it to (or mostly at least) and I'll give another shot at it with Shadow. :( Please don't screw this up.
PS: Should I upload my musics addon for parasite somewhere? Apparently it got good reviews at the hand of Kaffo.
Well I guess if it was 5 minutes then it wouldn't be SO bad, but it would also be mostly pointless. Which I suppose means you may as well leave it in anyway. Being honest, I didn't personally see how long the feeding timer was, but I think that anything less than 5 minutes would be too short.
I don't see the problem with the timer, it just means you have to jump on opportunities when you get them, and honestly it can get really boring when a host refuses to take a chance and attack someone for like 6 minutes.
The gameplay will be different but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's only bad if you want it to be the old parasite, which would defeat the purpose of it being the new parasite. Get me?
I completely agree that a timer may prevent it from being boring. However, if the humans are being half intelligent (like they almost always are) then opportunities won't always come up straight away. It's like putting doors on all of the need points which randomly open/close so that there is a 50/50 chance that humans can't get there in time and die simply because it was physically impossible. If that's what you want, then that's fine, but to me it seems pretty harsh.
5 minutes though would be okay. Usually if the host hasn't killed after 5 minutes, either they don't know how to play and won't learn any time soon, or the humans will continue to stick together until the end, and thus the host will NEVER get a decent chance to attack.
