I use RedSpeedServers.com and they provide such reasonable prices with DDoS protection. They've been having some down time with there datacenter, so they switched over to Dallas, TX and provided free DDoS protection. As for getting a maybe like a Dedicated such, I recommend getting nfoservers.com VPS 2 core. Its the best one to have to hold some number of servers. I hosted 2 PERP servers, 1 DarkRP, and 1 Build servers with no lag at all. Of a course the servers wernt fully packed.
They don't advertised DDoS support...
They don't advertised DDoS support...
They sent me a email so
Personally, I didn't have a very good experience with Xenonservers. My community was running a Custom TTT server and Fretta, both with a custom store, and on Xenonservers there was a pretty good amount of lag. But now we use xfactorservers, which doesn't necessarily specialize in GMod servers as much as Xenonservers, but they do have better pings and they have some good coupons that will get you off 20% off each month.
I hate xenonservers, there nothing but bad hosting now. They say they provide FastDL - I don't see any FastDL on my server. I even ask. They also have like almost everyday of downtime with there servers and control panel. Support - I get shit support everytime I ask for something wrong with my server. They also have strict access from uploading .dll files (not saying its bad but eh)
pretty sure Xenon includes FastDL as well as a base server.cfg with FastDL automatically enabled. I never had any downtime with them, just relatively bad ping for what I was running on my server. That was over a year ago though. The DLL restrictions are so someone doesn't upload something nasty and fuck the server up, yes, damn them for protecting their clients
I've been using Xenon Servers to host my gmod server for the past year and a half. It's was moderate at the beginning, now it's pretty awesome. Xenon Servers provides FastDL automatically, no need to worry about setting up a website and updating every time you update the server. They provide free DDoS protection for your server as well. My server hardly ever lags but once in a full moon it will, and I just send in a ticket and they fix it within a hour. The staff are very friendly. Overall: It's been awesome. Great when using Filezilla to manage your files as well. Oh, and they have a list of mods and plugins that they will automatically install for your server (ULX, Evolve, ASSMOD, etc) in just a matter of seconds. I'd recommend Xenon, don't know why everyone else has such a bad reputation with them.
I'd recommend Xenon, don't know why everyone else has such a bad reputation with them.
because they suck
vilayer.com shit's cheap yo
Its a nice hoster, I bought a VPS from them. Clearly the part I didn't like was they used euros, so wasn't right for me.
Because they used euro's there not right for you 0_O?
Because they used euro's there not right for you 0_O?
well if he wants an american server and they take euros then chances are they aren't american or that part of their site doesn't sell american
well if he wants an american server and they take euros then chances are they aren't american or that part of their site doesn't sell american
Or there based in EU? I pay in USD for my UK service.
Or there based in EU? I pay in USD for my UK service.
The paying isn't the problem for me, I know I can pay with USD. I just don't feel I want to pay with euros, it just confuses me sometimes.
Hello guy's, Just seen this post and decided to register to help anyone out who is having issues. We are making big changes to our website to include multi currency, we do allow 5 different currencies on our website of which you can select these upon ordering a server. This will make your account only pay in that currency and no other. We are based in Europe hence the reason why we work in Euro however you can select any currency. Best Regards, Vilayer [editline]27th February 2012[/editline] Hello again guy's, Just thought i would chuck this in for good measures. My story with Xenon, it's been said in at least 40 other threads about the same subject. I'll say it again. They blamed me for the lag on my own server, when we went ahead and used vanilla. It was still crashing, and it was confirmed our addons were not the cause of it. We're running the same addons now on another server and barely crash. Later, it was my fault I forgot to cancel my PayPal service for them. My service with them was already cancelled, all that was left to do was cancel it on PayPal's end. Well, I get a call from my bank saying my account has been overdrafted. I look, and I find PayPal to be responsible. So I contact Xenon (who, mind you, I was no longer hosting with), asking for a refund. They said, "Nope. We don't issue refunds for any reason." So I had to call them (to which they ignored), sent them at least 4 tickets about the same subject, which were ignored. Finally I get an email saying that they could still not refund me and would instead give me two "free" months of service. It's NOT free if I paid for it. I didn't want it to begin with. So finally I contacted my lawyer, and told them the situation. I let the Xenon staff know I was contacting my lawyer, then all of a sudden my money was back in my PayPal. I guess they feared we might find out something more about their shoddy host. Their servers are overpriced, oversold, and are generally terrible. As for Jargen, another host that wants to make money and give you shit in return. Doesn't care about the customer. The guy is a pure asshole. Instead of acting in a professional manner to defend his "company" he chose to use sarcasm and be rude. Don't host your own box. It may seem affordable and easy to do, "Oh, I'm already paying for an internet connection so I can just get an old computer that's been in my basement for 4 years and use that!" But in all honesty, it runs you more money. A standard ISP will NOT let home-class internet users host servers. It may go unnoticed for a month or so, but once you start ripping through bandwidth you're going to get some less than pleasant emails about it. Eventually they'll shut you down. What you'd have to do was get business-class internet, which can run upwards of $100 a month. By that time, it'd be easier and more affordable to get an $80 box hosted in a datacentre for you.
Most issues with lag and crashing is because you don't know how to properly run a server. You can't run a sandbox server on 66 tick with 400 props, I hate to tell you.
It is quite well known that mods do cause issues with lag on servers. If the server is correctly configured you shouldn't experiences any lag however the more props, the more tools and more stuff will cause any process regardless of what it is to so called "lag". Keep the server as clean as it can be without compromising player enjoyment is the best way forward imo. Customisation of mods can also be required sometimes but ahh well :) all is good. Several TB's of traffic per month.

Don't you run garrymod on linux also banana lord?
Linux has many dreaded issues with Garrysmod. I do wish they would make it more compatible with this operating system as Linux on the whole is used alot more than Windows in many cases. Best Regards, Vilayer
Don't you run garrymod on linux also banana lord?
Yessir, even with the vehicle shit and constraint lags :)
Jeeze, it seems like server hosts are like laptop manufactures. Everywhere I look there's always negative reviews and I can't find a reputable provider... :/

I'm pretty sure there are loads of people on every provider who are happy with their service.
Jeeze, it seems like server hosts are like laptop manufactures. Everywhere I look there's always negative reviews and I can't find a reputable provider... :/
There are many many good server hosts out there, As i quote from FlamingSpaz "That's because the unhappy ones tend to shout the loudest" and to add to this quote, there is two sides to every story. That's always something that everyone should remember! He couldn't have hit the nail on the head any better. One person can damage a reputation of a company greatly, which can then turn into damaging someone's income or lively hood. One thing mainly to avoid is the many many rouge companies out there, i am dedicated to my job and so are the staff we have. I will do anything i can to help clients out, most companies who host services will do. but... it's very hard in this day and age to tell if a company is rouge or not, one of my main suggestions when looking for server providers is to ask them questions that you find relative to the type of services you are in need off and see how professional and direct their answer is. Also take alook at how their communication is, try to take into account that some people have normal day jobs, busy family lives and other things which may affect how your services are ultimately run. (This is if you require 24/7 support etc...) Among other things there are many companies out there with great services from top to bottom. Sometimes it's best to go direct to them rather than listening to bad comments from a previous user. I hoped this kinda helped. Best Regards, Lee
