Why are there so many russian people playing Garrys Mod now?

They bought GMOD for 199 руб. (~7 USD) after years of playing non-steam version
They got banned on russian servers.
They have ping 30-70 to UK servers (and 60-120 to russian servers(!!!!!11) - russian ISP paradox.)

Isn't that enough?

Don't be a smartass. I was wondering if there was like something that specifically led more russian people to this game.
I have been playing it since it came out and I never saw so many Russians playing it.

I'm not a dumbass obviously they have computer and internet, and paid for it.
