Also, I'd like to announce something that is in testing right now: UPGRADES! Indeed, upgrades for your ship :3, currently working out the menus and bugs, since the core has already been completed. Once it's been worked out and tested, it shall be made into the next patch :O.

I loved the game that the shapes are taken from, Freelancer. Did you base anything from it? Or did you just use the models?
I remember the flight system was really intuitive in it, I hope to find out how yoours is.
Ours is pretty much like EVE...just a little more controlled.
W to go forward, S to stop, right click to turn the ship, left to shoot shit up.
Target enemies with E, select weapons with the QMenu, and fire away.
Bit difficult to get used to right away, but you'll get over the curve.

This game is hard on noobs. Its like like EVE without security zones, and without signature radii, and turret tracking speeds, so big ships with capital weapons can instakill small tiny ships anytime, anywhere, without missing ever.
Maybe simulate a signature radius system by having capital weapons do much less damage to frigates, but proportionally more damage as ships get bigger? Because large weapons shouldnt be able to track tiny, fast moving ships as easily as they do.

Funny thing is; Today i started playing eve, saw a wreck (apparently a player's wreck), picked it up, and was ista-killed.
Now what did you said about insta-kills?

You must have been insta-killed by a very well fit frigate, or maybe a destroyer, but it sure as hell wasn't anything larger than a destroyer. People sometimes people wait around their wrecks in a gank ship hoping for noobs to come take the stuff so they get an easy kill.
These gank ships are usually destroyers though, anything bigger than that probably wouldn't even be able to hit a frigate with any consistency, and they can easily be countered if you know what you are doing. Its not at all like in Sunrise where a dreadnought can target and insta-kill you in the blink of an eye without missing EVER, without you being able to shit about it.

I have an idea that may require some SQL integration, and something like adv dupe (but with sql instead of a text doc.)

Basically the whole universe will be spread across several servers (up to 10 because of price limitations) which will be possible with donations. 128 players per server. Max source map size with semi realistic (scaled down of course) planet/star/ship sizes. An actual asteroid belt around the sun (not little blobs of asteroids randomly placed. Maybe have 1-4 belts per server randomly. The planets and sun and everything will be placed with lua all the servers can have the same map but slightly different code for the positions of celestial bodies. There should be better space stations bigger ships (so only a few people will actually be able to have a gigantic ship). Fleet owned space stations. A working trade system. No console commands (so people can't exploit as easily).
The last group of people working on this laughed at me when i suggested this when i know all of it is possible. They just sucked at coding i guess :P

Secondly; We have a working trade system (Check the script out first before suggesting shit), and current commands can't be exploited.
